Knighter, we just had our first child in early January. I got six weeks if I wanted, I don't think there is anything the district can do if you push the issue. I got to use my sick days towards the leave.

The last school I was at did the jersey auction every year for homecoming and that was our only fundraiser of the year. The local businesses put together a bunch of money to buy some of the jersey that wouldn't sell and then they could also use that money bid up some of the parents that could afford more. We also auctioned the game ball off as well. We normally made about 6000 for the night but it had been a tradition in the community for a long time.

I am 26. High School Coach at a class 2A school in Iowa. Been very fortunate to get the oppurtunity to do whatever I wanted since I've been here. In the process of turning it around, 5-4, 1-8, 5-4 the last three years. Not much yeat but its the only two winning seasons in the last ten years. 14 returning starters the next two years. 1st year D-Coordinator: 4-3 The last 2 years O-Coorndinator: Wing T based, mostly Coach Elrod's system and terminology.
Coach RBs, LBers, and QBs.

Similar situation here. Our head coach for whatever reason hasn't been real motivated to start the weight lifting program. So myself and another assistant started it a couple of weeks ago after talking to the head coach to make sure it was alright. No matter how much we do, it still feels akward because we don't have the head coach helping.

Iowa
Top 48 schools in enrollment play in 4A, some Catholic schools petition to play up a class or two so that will knock some schools down to 3A.
Next 64 go to 3A, next 64 to 2A, 64 to 1A. The next 72 go to Class A. Eight man had 56 schools last year. 4A is on points system to qualify for the playoff, conference champion gets automatic bid. Sioux City East got into the playoff this past year at 5-4, coming out of a 5 team conference.
The rest of the classes are divided into 8 districts, top 2 in each district make the playoffs, making 16 playoff teams per class.

I am also in the process of burning all my vhs tapes to dvd for this very reason. Any help would be appreciated.

Thought from my wife:
1. Pay attention to the family 2. Tell your wife you love her everyday. 3. Get off the CoachHuey.com during dinner 4. Change a diaper 5. Talk to her about what is going on during in football 6. Introduce her to people you work with 7. Put the baby to bed 8. Watch something beside Espn 9.Win!! 10. Don't get fired

What do you guys about think having negative points for loafing and mental errors when you are grading your players. The impact on the game when you have players loafing and making continuous mental mistakes is huge. I am really thinking about changing my grading next year to include the negatives.

In Iowa I believe its something like 14 games in the regular season. But special teams won't count as playing in the game, also if the game has achieved the 35 point running clock then that won't count as a game either.
Again there is no way you're going to be able to enforce the rule. At the smaller high schools in becomes really tough to only play your younger kids in only 14 games.

With some modifications, we might be able to play on the whiteboard during a bowl game. See who the last coach standing is. LOL

I coach Running Backs at the NAIA level, my first year, but one of key points that we talked about was 'pinching the elbow'. That causes the ball to be pointed up, we did emphasize the 5 points of contact, but 'pinching the elbow' was always our key phrase. If the elbow was squeezed to the side and they had the front tip covered everything is normally good. We did only lose one fumble all year in the running game so I'll take that.
Just rep the heck out of agilities, cuts, and gauntlet drills. Then jump their butt anytime the ball gets away from their body.

I just took over as head baseball coach at a new school. I am currently teaching 50 miles away and driving to coach at night.
Anyways I just finished having my tryouts on Wenesday. On Thursday after the cuts were announced one of my players was arrested and charged with theft and burglary. He had stolen a master key from the school and has been caught on film stealing money from the office and breaking into other rooms.
I've only been around this kid for the 3 days of tryouts. I haven't had a parent meeting to discuss rules and expectations yet. That was planned for next week.
Should I just cut him loose and be done with it. The kid is a senior who has all of 8 days of school left. Our state plays summer baseball for high school.
The other thing I have weighing on my mind is the fact that our state has a No pass, No play rule. One F and a student sits for 20 days from athletics. I have one player on my team that failed a class first semester and isn't eligible to play until late June. The kids that got arrested will be able to play under the school districts policy right after Memorial Day weekend. Doesn't seem fair.
Any thoughts would be helpful.

I am amazed that this guy gave me his books. Everything went so quick and he was really nice. I would like to meet him and give him something in return. My parents told me he came in and talked football with my dad for a half hour. He sounds like a really nice guy. I can't wait to actually get my hands on the books and take a look.

Cruising through one of my websites today and found this thread.
I have some books on caching football if anyone is interested in taking them off my hands. The content is at least 20 years old but, perhaps someone can find a use for them as they are no longer usefull to me and it seems a shame to throw them away.
They are as follows:
Coaching Football for Young Athletes – by Tom Capozzoli (paperback) The Boy’s Club Guide to Youth Football – by Edward M. Torba, D.M.D (paperback) The Coach’s Guide to Developing a Passing Attack – by Jerry Howell, Ed. D. (paperback)
The following books are all hardback books.
The Football Coach’s Complete Offensive Playbook – by Homer Smith Attacking Modern Defenses with Belly Option Football – by Al Black & Bill Manlove Run and Shoot Football – by Glenn “Tiger” Ellison Radar Blocking – by Leo Hand Football’s Modular Offense – by John Durham Winning Football with the Air Option Passing Game – by Homer Rice & Steve Moore Counter Attack, Beating Football’s Attack Defenses – by Mike Koehler The Delaware Wing-T, An Order of Football – by H.R. “Tubby” Smith & Ted Kempski Winning Football with the Option Package Offense – by Bob Petrino Bear Bryant on Winning Football – by Paul “Bear” Bryant, Revised and Updated by Gene Stallings
To make a long story short, I responded to this guy and he dropped the books off at my parents house tonight.
I know how hard some of these books are to get.

The position I am most comfortable coaching is the quarterbacks, even though I have been studying offensive line play the most lately.
Offense: Wing-T, and Option Defense: 4-3
