18 can turn to 30 in one season of competitive play. A majority of kids are followers and they like to "see what all the fuss is about" so to speak. With those 18 you may get 9 new faces that want to see what made them into believers. Stay firm in your focus and the change will come. I am apart of a staff that 5 years ago was giving up 59 points a game. This past season we made it to the Sectional Championship game for the first time since 2000. Every year we got better and the senior class that followed the previous one wanted to go further, and it all started with that initial 6 seinors we had 4 years ago who lost by 2 in the 1st round of the playoffs.

We have the same problem with our track coach sort of. He has a personal resentment towards our HC andin turn he recently made a rule that his shot and discus throwers aka our D1 defensive lineman and also our offensive line could no longer lift weights before there practice started at 4:00. Basically from 2:45-4:00 they are waiting on the shot/discus coach. He says that during football season he doesnt come tell them he wants them to run a mile a day, so why should they be lifting for football. He is hurting the kids more than anything over a belief that we tell kids not to run track when we have told him and had had kids tell him that we never do that, we actually encourage them to run track.

Thats not fair to me, but I guess that is the world of coaching. Is there some sort of freshman conference title or something at stake? What is the Friday Night Lights production of the past 2 freshman classes? Have they benefited from it?

I'll take it how I get it. I would definitely take the combo of the two, a Bavaro style TE screen, going for 30 while trampling LB's and DB's and running with his helmet off, with no timeouts.

Colt Brennen was not your Timmmy Chang type Hawaii QB, he signed with Colorado out of high school. Big 12 not WAC. He has big time football ability. I dont remember who drafted him but if he falls into a system that New England or even a west coast team runs where he can get rid of it quick then he might be ok.

We have a parent, not necessarily a psycho dad but unappreciative family in the program today. Older brother was a virtual unknown tailback/athlete that couldnt remember plays. He was an above average DB that could cover the best of them man because of speed but lack of focus and discipline in zone always cost us on his side early. HC changes to the DW to try to keep games close and get the ball to our real stud, who by the way may be the most hated all time conference leading rusher ever, and to take advantage of his athletic ability makes him the complementary wing on the other side. This translates into a senior year that was great 1300 rush yards, 600 recieving, 10+ touchdowns, 33.7 yards per catch 1st team all state, and conference. Player goes on throughout the year and continues to not take SAT/ACT misses out on some 1A, 1AA, 2 scholorships. Has to settle for NAIA. Parents tell anyone who listens if we had have gotten him the ball more he would be at any D1 you could think of.
The next year his replacement, who is a close friend of his beats out a transfer for the honorary spot. With our stud still in tow he puts together in his first varsity start 13 carries 169 yards 2 TD's, 2 catches 88 yards and 1 TD. That next Friday he is asking before the game why he only got 13 carries and the other guy got 34. That night he falls down on a critical 2 point conversion in the third quarter that would tie the game. A freshman QB who is Last years wonder wing backs baby brother over hears our stud say give me the ball in those situations and runs and tells the other guy that. Well later in the game our backs are against the wall and we give our stud the rock. The other guy has a total meltdown and that basically ended his career even though he was a junior because he walked off the feild and threw a tantrum on the bus.
After his suspension it came to the light that psycho family had told him before game 1 that all we wanted to do was get our stud a schlorship when they didnt know that he already had people looking at him. Then after the game they kept pounding in his head that he got screwed.
Looking back at it psycho family screwed a very good tailback out of what could have been a good two year run as a wingback in a offense that is in the top 10 in the state rushing annually.
Psycho family is reaping what they sow, this past year their son started as a sophmore at QB and we were a horrible passing team because they were trying to outcoach me at home. Late in the season he started to come around and had a great performance but he is still a long way away. ex: they still play 8 in the box when we go 5 wide. Psycho parents are always lurking, making their little comments and whatnot

Matt Jones was sitting in the front seat chopping up cocaine like it was confetti? How much time did he serve? He was a direct culprit!Give Vick another shot.
Mike Vick is a quarterback who bought another element to the game. He started messing up when he tried to proove he was a pocket passer. I always said he was the equivelant of a Vince Carter type, when the dunk/4.2 forty is gone then the jump shot/pass accuracy will come. Superior athletes adapt, always have always will.

I coach in Indiana right now, and in a couple years I am going to want to advance in the coaching ranks and look for some head coaching opportunities. I have coached D3 football and next year will be my second as an offensive coordinator at a 4A school. I just want some feedback from other states on the requirements to be a head coach. Do I need my master's degree, how much experience is enough, and other things that may help.

I have played D2 black college football, I a coached D3 players who thought that because we were a couple years apart in age that they could lie to me and say if I was this or that I would be D1, and now I am a high school co-OC and our stud TB 2 years ago who is the citys career all time leader in rushing asked us to call Jim Tressel. This is a person who on a good dry day ran a 4.6. D1 is Earl Bennett at West End high school in 2005 on senior night. 13 rushes 176 yds 4 TD's. 5-7 passing 2 TD's and 2 ints 1 TD. final score Earl Bennet 42 other team 21. By the way the other school was ranked and West End was not. What does he go on to do, become the aall-time leading reciever in SEC history. 3rd round draft pick to the Bears.
Parents or players dont know. A D1 player wins high school games by himself. Case and point, stat line Adrian Peterson averaged 10 yards per carry in his high school career. Wow! How many people can you say did that?

Bradford because of the basketball scores the team is putting up and the video game stats he has. Best player on the best team, that is usually how it goes. Tebow, good season, but he would have had to match or better last year's unreal season. Sam Bradford and Oklahoma in the national title game over Florida because I believe Oklahoma is just as fast as Florida but more physical.

How strong is your defense?
If the D is loaded with D1/D2 talent, not important as much. If the D gives up 37 a game, keep the ball as long as godly possible and score what you can so in the fourth quarter both teams have only had at the most 4 possesions

Being in my mid 20's, I have learned plenty on this board. If this site was available back when I was in high school I definitely would have been on it just to see what people around the country are saying and doing. Moving on to what cqmiller said about USC, I know the feeling. I asked a player about Lawrence Taylor last season and he told me he didnt even watch college football. very few athletes are students of the game nowadys, they are extremely physically gifted and are satisfied with that. I always preach football IQ. that is what my coaches did for me.
