I am in Canada and we don't get all the bowl games anyone know of a website where I can find them on that streams all the games? It doesn't have to be free I would pay to watch them! ESPN360 is adverstised to carry all of the ones on ESPN. Also, check out channelsurfing.net and justintv.com.

Same to you coach. This website is the best one out there. We're fortunate to have a place like this to discuss God's greatest game with such great people.
Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks for posting this coach. Those kids are rewarded very nicely for their hard work.

All great ideas. Team paintball is always a good activity as well. The kids eat it up. 3 on 3 basketball tournaments are also a good time.

Coaches,
Just wanted to get your take on this subject. Are you strictly someone that uses compliance to get what you want or do you preach the ownership factor to your kids? What is a better way for you to get your kids to buy in? Do some kids require strict compliance, while others will me motivated by ownership? It seems like there is a balance between the two that would be ideal to get maximum results.

That's crazy man. I have a brand new perspective on everything now. I won't be b*tching about doing one fundraiser a year anymore.

Here in SW WA there is a levy that is getting put to a vote in January. If it doesn't pass then all sports programs from all schools in our district will get cut. If that happens then I will have to find a new program to coach for. So will kids in your district be able to go and play for another school?

Not sure what bugets you guys are talking about. The only funding we received from the school/district is the stipends for the coaches which comes from a $50 pay-to-play fee that goes to the district. We receive $2,500 for helmets and shoulder pads each year from the school. Other than that we are totally self-funded and are still expected to pay for the rest of the athletic program through the gate from the games - we don't get any of that. So, cutting the budgets doesn't affect us much here as we don't have one. You guys don't have a football budget besides the 2500 to buy equipment, etc? WOW. You guys must do a hell of a lot of fundraising.

Are you asking for good resources or just what one should know?
If you're aksing for resources, buy Darin Slack's C-4 DVD set. It's great stuff.
As far as coaching QB's it's the same standard as any other position. Become and expert on drops, upper body mechanics, reads, leadership, ball handling, defensive recognition, etc.

We lost all of our funding last year. Each player had to pay $500 to play. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Did they cut all the other sports and the fine arts budgeting as well?

What kinds of cuts are you experiencing? I just wanted to get a little perspective on what programs and districts are going through right now. Here is what we have right now...
1) $50 fee to play per kid 2) significant reduction in the budget 3) 8th grade program possibly being cut

I heard someone say at a clinic on time, "as an assistant your job is simple, to make the head coach's job easier"
Now, that doesn't mean be a "yes man" and agree with everything. I've always tried to follow these rules...
1) be loyal 2) work your tail off 3) treat kids right 4) accept the "off field" responsibilities and attack them like you would the more enjoyable parts of coaching 5) teach how the head coach wants it to be taught, like I said you're not going to agree with everything but he's the boss 6) if there is a disagreement on how something should be taught, make sure it's handled away from the kids 7) your focus should be to make sure your position group is the best d*mn position group on that team, don't get caught up in trying to coach someone else's position.

Good stuff coach. We got to interact with Raheem quite a bit when he was the DC at Kansas State and he recruited Kansas City. Seems like a very cool dude. I'm not sure if he's going to get that thing turned though.

So as someone that watches all of their games...
Are they doing anything extraordinary schematically or just doing a great job of mixing up looks and executing?

I wasn't talking about ripping players, you see that from almost every coach. I'm talking about the actions towards his staff. When the reciever was called out of bounds on that 3rd down play after the big punt return in the 4th quarter, he looked at Shawn Watson like "what the F are you doing, my defense is playing it's ass off and you can't move the ball 10 yards to score a TD"
Like you guys said, every coach has their own ways of motivating both players and coaches, I guess this just happens to be his.

Anyone else find it ridiculously unprofessional how he yells at his assistant coaches on the sidelines? I understand ripping players, but ripping your coaches in front of everyone helps nothing.

I was getting on here this morning to ask some similar questions. I really have to tip my hat to that defensive coaching staff. The Nebraska defense might be playing the best defense in the country right now. Just over a year ago I remember my Tigers going up to Lincoln and hanging 50 on them in 3 quarters.
I think the main thing Bo has done is install a toughness in them that was lacking under Callahan. Those dudes go out there every series and think they're either going to force a punt or get a turnover no matter who the offense is.
I know they play a lot of field/boundary stuff and can give you a lot of different looks but haven't looked at it much deeper than that.
As for Carl Pelini...sure he has the title of defensive coordinator but we know who is in charge of that defense.
Ndamakong Suh...good riddance. Possibly the best defensive player I've ever seen in college football.

I agree. I think 10 years ago the spread was wildly successful because defenses didn't see it much. The same can be said for Paul Johnson's offense at GT. It's a ***** to defend because it's unorthodox right now.
Offensive coordinators are a bunch of copycats. It'll be interesting to see what offenses are doing in 5 years.

Im a fan, but a realist always Winning 7 games in a 13 game season with weak pre-season opps shouldnt be considered competitive IMO Ive never thought of Mizzou vying for National titles or even getting reasonably close. 59-41 isn't that big a deal IMHO, especially where the North being so weak in these days. Mizzou has only won 10 games 2 times under Pinkel and they had 3 losing seasons (down years) under him as well. In those 10 win seasons he had a "freak" grouping of 2 First ROund NFL guys, and a very good college QB- I dont see the moons aligning like that very often. NU isnt very good either, started True Frosh QB and True Frosh TB last week as well as Frosh WR etc Tom Osborne always said that with the Missouri population base ( bigger, much bigger than many teams in the conference), no in-state competition and great athletes in the St Louis and surrounding areas- it was a sleeping giant and he was always perplexed why they had so many teams loaded with great athletes (NFL level) that rarely did well as a team etc. The spread obviously was a great fit for the grouping of freakishly good kids they had in that little stretch. Mizzou has ALWAYS had talent, just not that many in the same season. They were ranked #1 two years ago after the last weekend of the regular season and were tied with OU late in the 3rd quarter of a conference championship game before the wheels fell off. I would consider that competing for a national championship. As for the "down" years, Vince Lombardi wouldn't have gone bowling with the team Pinkel was left in those first couple years. I don't think it's fair to count those. As for Gabbert...I don't disagree he would be great in a pro-style offense. However, I think he'll be great in this one as well. He's a first year starter and is putting up very good numbers. Another year in the system will benefit him greatly.

You're obviously a Nebraska fan, judging from your location and "don't expect them to be consistently competitive" comment.
If by "competetive" you mean competing for national championships then you are right. But if you mean winning 7 or 8 games in their down years and winning 10 in their strong years then you are wrong. They are in a rebuilding year this year and have the youngest team in college football. Coach Pinkel has done a great job building that program and upgrading the talent level. They will continue to compete for the North in most years.

No way. They might tweak some things but for you will not see them totally abandon the spread. Their spread is a big reason they've won 30 games in the last 3 years.

Coach,
Are you looking for practice schedules, ideas, etc?
I've coached on a platoon team the past couple years. It created great competition, like you talked about. We had a scoring system everyday we would use to determine the winner. However, sometimes the kids became so focused on winning the point system they sometimes neglected the whole point of practice. You also risk a chance of a divide in your team, which we experienced a little bit and had to work to repair.

I know common scores aren't always an accurate indicator, but we're facing a team on the road that put a beatdown on a team that beat us by 30.
Any words of wisdom to get the kids to believe? Any quotes or themes?

Thanks for the responses. We go in Saturday at 7 and are done about 3, while kids are in from 9-1 to watch tape, get a lift in, and briefly go over next week's opponent. Sunday the staff meets from about 3-6.
