Coaches,
Just wanted to get your take on this subject. Are you strictly someone that uses compliance to get what you want or do you preach the ownership factor to your kids? What is a better way for you to get your kids to buy in? Do some kids require strict compliance, while others will me motivated by ownership? It seems like there is a balance between the two that would be ideal to get maximum results.

I dont think they are mutually exclusive. Comply first, then own it.
We are starting to see "ownership" now in our weight room as the sophs and juniors are taking 8th graders and putting their arms around them and saying "this is how we do it" and "this is what you have to do" and "coach wont let you do that" and stuff like that.
same with coaching, an assistant coach doesnt just walk in and own his position unless hes completely compliant with how things are done, what to teach and demonstrates an understanding of the bigger picture.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it.
