Side note Did anyone see chuck Liddell the UFC fighter there?
It wasn't actually him, but there was a coach from some school that I swear could've been his brother It took me 5 minutes to confirm it actually wasn't chuck Liddell

It was funny And the guy was funny
He'd explain a concept... How they taught everything... The QBs progression they taught
Then he'd say how Johnny would handle the play
Game clip with Johnny and it's he does xyz
Game clip with back up so he could show us the actual progression lol
He spent a while going over what hi/lo stretch on a backer... They classify it as quick, but to me it's 3 step... Johnny was taking 3 steps... Anyway it was essentially the same as levels... Dig with a 5 in route coming under it Had some good coaching points
Levels is something I've been looking at all off season Really like it
They showed a lot of it from empty or motioning back out... They'd run two concepts
For example snag to the 3 man side And levels to the 2 man side RAM read away from mike
From trips they'd have 2 and 3 run the levels With #1 on a 10 stop route They also showed it tagged as a post This is my favorite way of running it from trips, now you're combine levels, and the divide concept in my eyes... Now of the safety starts being aggressive and attacking the dog route you have something built in to go over his head

Saw pigskin briefly today
I was one of the clinic warriors who made it to all the sessions
Saw the Arizona state guy first... Seemed like a cool guy, I got a couple drill ideas but mostly boring
Really liked the A&M WR coach Entertaining to listen to, got some good info... But a lot of their concepts were literally... Let Johnny do what he wants

Ross actually has some really good deals on stuff
Things I have bought in the past that many of you would have a need for
Nike Pro Combar (5 pad girdles, $20 for a $75 product) under armour/nike pro/compression material stuff (compression shorts, short sleeve, long sleeve Nike apparel (shorts, sweats, windbreakers, polos) megaphone duffel bag (nike, used it as a game day bag for myself) tripod for filming a ton of cleats for kids (especially kids with big feet size 14-16)

The San Francisco (really in Concord) Glazier is this weekend Fri-Sunday
I'll be there along with the rest of our staff
Who else will be there?
I met a few of you last year, and that's always enjoyable.
I am always happy to talk football, and its nice meeting other NorCal coaches.

The 5 pad girdles are awesome
A lot of our kids buy their own nike ones We encourage them to
You can get them at Ross for 20-25 bucks which is cheap
I've seen 7 pad girdles online If you buy in bulk I've seen them for 35 ish
I just don't know how comfortable they are and if they can really fit different body types (leg length specifically)
But if they fit well you could buy those and be done buying leg pads
We lose so many knee and butt pads a year i hate buying more
It's harder to lose the whole girdle

I hate tip drill
I mean it always turns in to a screw off period... kids have fun with it so thats a bonus but I think some guy made it up one day and everyone else in the country bought in to it
teams ive coached have done it every year ive coached, and in these 8 years... i cant remember a single time, in a game where we got a tip up in to the air, and someone on our team intercepted it.
I think it is a waste of practice time

3 years ago we started a chant
Believe
We would chant it It was on all of our shirts and spirit pack stuff
I hated it then and now but the kids bought in to it We had back to back playoff appearances for the first time in almost 30 years for this school
This year we struggled and the kids just didn't "believe"
I have always hated it and I'm trying to talk the HC into something new We went 1-9 this year... IMO we need to break ties with that expression and get something new ... Try to get rid of as much as possible that connects us with last season

I don't watch much college I'll watch a few bowl games because I have more time
I enjoy NFL games much more
Most Coaches prefer the college game
I finally realized why this is true for me A. I don't have a college team. Generally I want to see the west coast teams win since that's where I'm from but not a diehard fan of any one team. Where as in the NFL I have a favorite team
B. I think in season I am so exhausted, stressed, and repulsed by Friday nights game, whether we win or lose, that I just need a day away from football to recharge my batteries. When Sunday comes around I'm much more in the mood to watch football

I agree Don't spend it just to spend it Team contact Camps are great but I think it's something the kids should pay for. Out of curiosity, do you hold it against a kid f he can't or won't pay for it? our camp is really cheap now I run my own, only 40 a kid which is affordable for most kids and they have a lot of notice on when it is due. We only charge our own kids for the camp I run so we have some money up front that I can use to purchase camp insurance, food, shirts for the camp.... it pays for some so I don't have to put up all of the money out of pocket. We only have a couple kids each who can't/don't pay the $40 and we have those kids come to camp early each day and help set things up... they essentially "work off" their camp fee.

I agree with the others about saving, but having said that I'd definitely invest in the weight room. Do you have enough equipment for everybody? Then how about a new sound system. Run off a timer instead of music in weight room, how bout a big clock to keep track of it all with a buzzer. I'd try to find something to help streamline whatever we do to help us get MORE organized. That way we can take advantage of all of our practice/weight room time. We ordered some new dumb bells, benches, we painted it, ordered some more cleans boards with logo and all. and we still have a large amount left over. We have a account with a savings or just in case money is what we call it. I do like the idea of a new sound system in the weight room. there isn't one actually. We also ordered some white boards for it as well. I do like the idea of getting dry fit clothes for the guys that do well in the weight room… we don't have a huge incentive program for things like that. I will run all these ideas by my HC… Thanks fellas. If you think of anything else please post it or PM me. You can bring your team to my team camp

Hard to fine a balance between all that. Up here in the northeast the teaching salaries are the highest in the country, but as far as football is concerned it's nothing like hs football down south. The class L state champions from Connecticut is a very rich community. There's a lot of well off Connecticut towns. They have a great facility and have a jumbotron in their football facility, not sure I would call it a stadium though. Top step for teachers in most Connecticut district is $70k. Coaching stipends anywhere from $2500-6000. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using proboards Top step in our district is 77k Can actually get up to 82k with longevity pay bein in district for a really long time I know our district isn't even close to highest paying around NorCal

guys with athletic periods don't realize how lucky they are
I believe in lifting all summer, I think we have done too much in pads over the summer and by the time our kids start we all hate football
I like giving them Friday off... last year we went all 5 days, and initially I liked it... however I feel that it burned everyone out, including the coaches.
Friday is the one day our kids get off of summer school (half our team goes to summer school each year) so it is nice to give them a 3 day break and let them be kids

CA combines everyone
it really isnt fair
private schools can bring in anyone they want
public schools cant, and if a kid transfers in without a legit move they have to miss 5 games... private schools dont have those issues
i wish we had separate divisions for public and private
a growing problem now is the rise of charter schools... more and more are popping up and we are beginning to see some of them really explode in football... they have the benefit of private school (being able to bring in players from outside of their normal geographic pool of feeders) and the benefit of public schools (free)
they are essentially free private schoolsWho is paying for the charter schools then? We don't have any around here and I don't know much about those types of schools. Read more: coachhuey.com/thread/62288/public-private-state-handle?page=1&scrollTo=621421#ixzz2mvdoZouO I'm not sure exactly how it works and I know one school in particular it took them a while to become a charter, they got all their staff to sign on saying they wanted to do it it basically lets them be free from the district they used to be in they still get the money from the state based on their daily attendance but they keep it all... its like being your own school in your own district... it is still free to the kids because the money comes form the government
