Along with early football season, late football season, bowl season, and the thanksgiving season, clinic season is one of the times of year that i absolutely love and look forward to. It makes me feel giddy. It may have already started for some, so hats off to ya.
So I guess what im attempting in this thread is kind of an open forum of what clinics you are attending. Im sure there are others on this site also attending those clinics that maybe want to get together. Who knows, maybe you meet a future opponent, an amazing DC you want to hire, a new best friend, a promising young coach from Fresno named pvogel who has amazing drive, passion, a wicked sense of humor, and nawludg, whatever.
So I'll start off here by saying that i'm going to the Glazier Clinics February 4-5th in San Jose, and March 4-6 in Orange County. And Maybe Las Vegas Feb 24-26, but probably not.
I am also probably going to Cal Poly SLO April 15-16.
So If you are going to any of those, or you're in the area shoot me a PM and i'd love to get together. Or if anyone makes their way to Fresno, you are welcome anytime. There is room for sleeping on the floor in my apartment as well.

I went to a great clinic in Ocean City MD...Only about 250 coaches...many state champs and former state champs there..love to hear what they have to say...The theme of the clinic is for HS coaches by hs coaches..not a college coach spoke....met a state champ from MD and we are getting together just him and me..can't wait....the social was pretty good too

You remind me of Owen Wilson's character in 'Wedding Crashers' getting excited about wedding season...

The theme of the clinic is for HS coaches by hs coaches..not a college coach spoke I like that. I always find the presentations from successful high school coaches much more valuable and relevant. Often the college presenters forget that we have limited talent, time and resources compared to them.

I like hearing small colleges coaches. I think that they have a lot in common with high school coaches. While I think that Urban Myer is a genius, I'm not going to be able to apply a whole lot of his X's and O's to our team.

I used to really look forward to clinic season... but the 3 or 4 around here just arent what they used to be... I leave every time feeling I could have spent my money more wisely, and question how much time I wasted.
I spend hours sitting in crowded rooms and I am lucky if I get 1 thing from it, one drill, coaching point or technique...
Every now and then I will get an exception and be impressed by a speaker, but it just seems like the clinics here are getting worse each year...
Am I alone?

I heard jgordon speak at the Ocean City Clinic... good stuff! Heading to Nike COY in NoVA this weekend and Baltimore Glazier the following weekend. Am trying to set up a number of staff get togethers... I think there is more value in talking with other staffs about how they do things. It just seems you can find more relevance in what other high school staffs do than listening to college coaches.

The best thing about Clinics is going away with the staff and networking / bull$#!tting with other staffs.
Clinics these days are not diverse enough. There's a 3-day clinic coming up in 2 weekends in Boston. Almost every single topic is:
Running The Spread Defending The Spread Running The Wing-T Defending The Wing-T Running The Wing-T from The Spread Defending the Spread Wing-T
Of course I'm somewhat exaggerating, but those are the majority of the sessions.
I miss the days where an OL coach would bark at you for 4 hours about how to base block, drag buffons out of the audience to demonstrate, etc.
Now, I get some guy with a flashy powerpoint presentation (which ALWAYS takes 15 minutes to figure out how to get the imbedded video to play) talking to me about what checks they make to a 3 receiver surface and how their Salamander Backers adjust to motion.

I'm probably going to be at the San Jose Glazier clinic. Ordinarily our staff goes to the Burlingame All Sports clinic, but this year the line up is a giant joke. There's maybe two presentations that I'm interested in hearing over the whole Th-Sun weekend. I might do Nike COY in Concord, but I'm doubtful on that because I don't want to pay that fee, hotel fare, etc.

OK, y'all, All I can say is "Come to Florida" somebody. We've got the Glazier in Tampa and the Nike COY in Orlando in back to back weekends. You can sammich a family trip between the clinics. Hey, just take the week to review your notes while the family is at Disney. Better yet, take your notes with you. Although most of the time I leave clinic season with little to show for it, then other times it's life changing ideas. You never know. OJW

You remind me of Owen Wilson's character in 'Wedding Crashers' getting excited about wedding season... .... strongfootball.blogspot.com/2011/01/how-to-prepare-for-football-clinic.htmlRead the headline for this post from a while back. BTW, I'll be heading to the Glazier Chicago clinic in February and March. I also plan on heading to the Indianpolis Glazier Clinic. The Indianapolis one has some decent looking big name speakers (Ron Rivera - though w/being a HC he may back out, Ted Cottrel, Darrin Slack, Larry Coyer, ect...), especially compared to the Chicago one here in a week. Hopefully their talk matches their potential.

I agree with a lot of people that some of the clinics get brand or redundant. But my mantra for clinics is to find just 1 thing... 1 thing only that I can use. I don't care if its a catch phrase for teaching something or a drill, blitz, etc.

Going to Burlingame clinic starting tonight Glazier in San Jose Nike COY in Concord Maybe wings and things in Fresno Hammer Strength clinic in San Jose
They all are getting bad - but better than nothing and better than teaching on a Friday haha
I prefer to listen to great HS coaches, college assistants, and then maybe college HC - usually they are just BS'n

Sounds like you need to come to the National Wing-T clinci this weekend in Pittsburgh and hear Tom Herman! When the guys holding the bags in his talks are drenched in sweat you know it's a good time!

I am heading to the DFW clinic tonight after I get off work. I love clinic season as there are only a few that I can realisitically get to in my area. Ill be driving overnight with my brother so Ill be exhausted when I get there, but the lineup of speakers looks great.

Went to the Glazier in Mobile this past week and it is the best kep secret I think. good speakers but the facility is the Grand Marriott resort plus with a season pass was on field for the senior bowl practice Monday afternoon.
Was amazed at watching the NFL personnel guys do their things and how they evaluated the players and different methods.

I love clinic season - definitely as good as Christmas. After coaching for 27 years, I don't necessarily expect anything earth-shattering or life-altering. I try to see a number of the guys on the other side of the ball in order to better understand their thought process and what they're trying to do against us.
I will be attending: Midwest Iowa (Graphic Edge) - Feb 11-12I'll be speaking on Friday night on Pistol Philosophy and empowering your QB Mpls Glazier - Feb 18-20 Minnesota Coaches Association - March 31, April 1-2
Would love to see us try to get together a Huey Board session at one or all three.

I'll be going to Baltimore for the Glaziers. As a longtime Packers fan, though, you can be I'll be back by Sunday night. I'll probably also get up to the Championship clinic in Richmond and maybe another Glaziers. The staff is also planning a visit, maybe UNC but not sure yet. There'll probably be a one-day to UVA during spring ball.

Our staff will be hitting the Seattle Glazier Clinic Feb 25-27th. Haven't been to a glazier clinic before, but by the topic list, it's got my interest.
