We played them at the last school I was at for several years in a row and I believe the old school will be playing them again this year. Very solid program, good kids, had some great athletes the years we played them. Their coach, Jerry Smith I think, is a great guy. They liked to air it out and run a ton of motions the years we played them. As far as level of play I know they have been trying to schedule the best teams in the east for awhile now. We were nat. ranked a couple of the years we played them and I think one year they cracked the USA rankings for a bit. I think they have played St. Iggy's, St. X, St. Ed's from Ohio and a few other big time programs, so they aren't afraid of comp. Must have a solid program if they are looking to play you.

Thanks Coming from Buffalo I know them well. We don't play them since most public schools in Buffalo don't play privates and catholics schools. They are a premier team in this area and have a great program. I never heard one complaint about them in regards to sportsmanship etc. They try to play teams outside the region and the HC Jerry Smith has done a great job building one of the best programs. If our Section in NY State allowed private schools to participate in the state playoffs I believe they would have a few state titles under their belt. Mav, where are you located? We're in the Boston area. They're looking to travel to us to play. We're an average size (~1,000 students) public school. I know they're not a very large school, but would you consider them to be the one of the best relative to size or the best overall? We have elite private schools in our area that don't play the publics, but they're not up to the level of the best programs with 2-3,000 students to choose from -- Trying to put it into perspective.

I would say they are pretty good over all. They have played some Nat. ranked teams in Ohio and held their own the last few years. Look up their schedule on maxpreps.com they are a very solid program.

They are a top school in our area ... usually... year in year out regardless of size. Last year they were ranked #2 in WNY large school poll behind a large public school (Orchard Park) who lost in the state semi's to the eventual state champion. Some people around here felt Frannie's was better than OP. OP probably graduates 400-500 kids in a class and they are one of the largest schools in the area. They are like most parochial schools around here. Enrollment is down, they don't probably have a ton of money but they have a great reputation , a great coaching staff and they attract some good football players in this area.

Well- I live in Buffalo....
I heard some of their players went to an opposing team's pre-season practices a couple years ago, and got caught. Not sure if any discipline was handed out, or if the coaches knew about it or what. Or maybe I'm mistaken and players from an opposing school went to St. Francis for those practices. I read about it a couple of years ago, like I said, and the details are rather grainy.
Other than that, that's about all I know, other than the fact my cousin went there freshman year. : P
If you do play them, good luck! Maybe I'll go to the game....

Coach, You have the story backwards. Two players from North Tonawanda went to St Francis under the impression their father was transfering from Texas to Buffalo and they wanted to check out Frannies. I think they got so far as getting a playbook, etc. It blew up when the NT head coach got wind and called Jerry Smith. It was pretty funny and I thought Jerry handled it well. Then they went out and beat NT opening week by 40 points!

Ah, so that's the story. Thanks very much for setting it straight.
Huh, forty points for a little revenge... sounds a little Belichick-minded, doesn't it? ; )
