Just want to say guys thanks for all the ideas I got from this forum. My O-lineman has committed to play for Louisiana Monroe! Through mostly his hard work, and a little help from you guys, I was able to get him out there and get a few sets of the right eyes on him. Hope this thread helps someone else in a similar situation. Thanks for all the help.

Wow forgot all about making this thread.
Believe it or not, my guy made the first team Texas 3a AP All state team. Also was selected as lineman of the year for our district.
Right now he is 6'2 290
He went to the Rivals camp in Houston, and is going to a few junior days, Tulsa being one he is attending this weekend.
Not sure how interested anyone truly is in him right now....but he is signed up to attend several camps.
I put together a decent highlight tape of him, and have sent a copy of two games to almost every division 1 and 1-aa school in Texas.
Will see what happens.

I have an offensive lineman that is going to be a 3 year starter, and be a senior next season. He is the best player I have coached. The problem with him is he is 6'2....and as I have come to know.....there are a lot of good 6'4 and less kids who do not get noticed because of there height and most colleges looking for the 6'4 and up guys.
Besides shipping his highlight tapes all over hudl.....what are some good Lineman camps, and other ways to get him out there and get him noticed? I am sure you have all had them, but I really want to work hard for this kid to get a chance to play at the next level at a quality place.

Had one of my best olinemen get hurt the other night in a game. Thought he broke his finger, wrapped it up and went back on the field to finish the 4th quarter.
He goes to the doctor this week, they give him an mri, and he has ruptured his tendon in his ring finger. Dr. is saying it is "jersey finger" and wants him to have surgery right away and is saying he will be out a few months. I am by no means a doctor, but was curious if anyone has ever heard of a player playing through this using a hard cast, or a club, and being okay and getting the surgery done later. I would not ask except this kid was getting looks from junior colleges and smaller div 3 schools, and could of had his schooling paid for.

We have a set for our lineman, but have never used them before. Do the players feel like it limits them in any way, does it slow you down any. I talked to a coach who said he thought they were a bit bulky but thought if they had any impact it was minimal on movement. He did however have a kid tear an mcl while wearing one and said he wasn't sure how much help they really were.
What do you guys think about wearing knee braces, do you think they are a necessary health tool to use, or are they more of a hassle that can make your players mentally feel slower.

I was at a school that right after the players went in and everyone was off the field you had about 20 minutes til the game started. This school would always make an announcment about the teams records, welcome the fans to the stadium and thank everyone for beign there. They would then play phil collins in the air tonight. This took about 5-6 minutes. Right after that was done players came back out, did the run ins, then all the other pre game stuff....... Besides in the air tonight, what are some other good songs you could play like that?

I am not there anymore. He was one of those who fired you every week. He was a great coach, just had no sense when it came to dealing with other coaches. He was one of those that the higher ups on staff didn't get much thrown there way, but he had no problem pulling the pants down of the freshman or middle school staff.
I got a varsity job now, so things are good.

Had a kid who showed up every day and worked hard. Great kid in the classroom and was a great kid overall. His parents came to every game, and it was always a rul to get a kid in for at least one play during the game because this was the freshman level.
Get ino a game where we are getting our butts handed to us. We are down 20-0 and nothing going right. Header is down on the sidelines and is starting to chew our ass for such a poor performance. So the heat is on. I never got this kid in the game because between getting beat and getting chewed out, I didn't want to stick him in. So after getting our asses chewed for sucking as coaches, the next morning I got my ass chewed by his parents for not playing him. The kid deserved to play, and had gotten at least one series all year for me. Felt bad after it happened. I vowed from then on to make sure I got all those backups in during the first half in some sort of way so I wouldn't have to worry later.
Would like to say the kid ended up being much more of a contributor by the end of the year and I even started him last game because of an injury. Everything worked out fine, and I am no longer at the school so no thursday night ass chewings are coming my way this year I hope lol.

When I played in highschool our coach was not a big raw raw guy. HE would give a quick speech about effort intesity and attention to detail. Talk about focus, and keeping our heads in the game. He would tell us to lean on eachother, and to count on one another.
We would then listen to Bil withers - lean on me while we just kinda bounced around and sang along. Still get goose bumps when I hear that song, you may not think it is a football song but listen to the words. Had a lot of meaning to us, and we subscribed ot the attitude of leaning on eachother.
A song like that right before you walk out gets you kinda calm and ready.

Anyone ever worked under an athletic director who would just cuss you like a dog from time to time? I am wondering if this is fairly standard amongst coaches to yell at young coaches in a similar way they yell at a player.
