We have a set for our lineman, but have never used them before. Do the players feel like it limits them in any way, does it slow you down any. I talked to a coach who said he thought they were a bit bulky but thought if they had any impact it was minimal on movement. He did however have a kid tear an mcl while wearing one and said he wasn't sure how much help they really were.
What do you guys think about wearing knee braces, do you think they are a necessary health tool to use, or are they more of a hassle that can make your players mentally feel slower.

Use them. Better safe than sorry. The kids will get used to them. I was actually one of the guys these things were developed on. Taped them on. Thats how long ago it was. Came out of each practice thinking nothing happened to my knee. Took off prototype and it was bent all to hell. Coming off a knee surgery it most likely sved my knee from future damage.

if you are going to wear them make sure you start practicing in them now...they can take some time to get used to
and i suggest cutting the sleeves off of under armour and earing those on your legs, or wearing tights because they can rub your legs and be irritating

Use them and start using them on the first day of practice...make sure the players get used to them. They make you feel a little "dead legged" at first but you get used to it quickly.

My advice, use them. I'd rather have my OL at 90% mobility than 0% availability.

I had one on back in the day. ACL/MCL and other stuff all destroyed. Knee brace looked like a pretzel. I am sure the tech has changed a bit since then, but if feet keep moving and are not planted in turf it minimizes that to a great degree.

I think you should use them if you got them. There is a reason that you see all the upper level lineman wearing them and I like what Coachbdud suggest in that you should have a sleeve or something under them so they don't rub them raw.
