At the local team's banquet this year the coaches gave out around 15 awards to the team. The booster club gave about 20 plaques to various members for their contributions for the year (meals, field work, equipment transport, etc...)

I agree with not splitting the board up into a bunch of different sections. Another board I go to has the ability to put in search keywords when you post something. It really helps the search function if we have the ability.

our 4-3 allowed an average of 8 points a game all year and was #1 or #2 in all other statistical categories. So you're saying there's room for improvement. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

tennessean.com/article/20081206/SPORTS07/81206013/-1/PREPSFACTORYMURFREESBORO – Hillsboro beat Maryville 10-7 in the Class 4A BlueCross Bowl, ending the nation's longest winning streak at 74 games. Jacob Noe's 20-yard field goal with nine minutes left gave Hillsboro the three-point lead. Advertisement Eric Gordon’s 3-yard touchdown run at 3:59 of the second quarter had Hillsboro in front 7-0 at halftime. It was the first time Maryville had trailed in a state final since 2002 when Hillsboro led the Rebels in the fourth quarter. Maryville rallied to win that game. Maryville owns the nation’s longest active high school football win streak, currently at 74. Maryville scored when Zane Winders hit Thomas Shuler for a 13-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The first half was littered with fumbles. Maryville (14-0) gave the ball away its first and third possessions. Hillsboro (12-2) coughed up the ball on its second series.

After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.
"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."
Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories--Japan and Germany. The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."
German Chancellor Adolph Hiter said "Yes, we lost to the US; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."
The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."
Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

I wonder if Tenn. is starting to second guess hiring Kiffin so quick now that Tuberville is out there. I doubt it. The way I hear it Tubs hasn't had much support from the BOT since he went undefeated the year after jet-gate. He had some power then and stuck it in their faces so he didn't have a whole lot of support when it started going bad. Even if it was just one year of going bad.

Isn't the BCS ranking like the 5th tie breaker for them? When you get so far down the list it's hard to find much that's gonna please everybody.

nice post d-
To offer one from the offensive side:
Team- perfect plays- run a play vs. air with coaches watching fundamentals. They have to execute their assignment then sprint 10 yards. If everybody gets it right move the ball up 10 yards and repeat, if somebody messes up, replay it from that spot. You can have more than one group going.
Also, we set up saq type and other skill stations and have the players rotate thru them for conditioning. Pro agility, bags, ladder drills, sleds, cone drills, the options are almost infinite. But each coach takes a station, split the team up between them and as soon as they finish one they rotate to the next. I like this because it keeps everybody (coaches included) involved and beats the crap out of lining up and sprinting 40 yards.

We did our conditioning at the start of practice. If I was going to have a conditioning period a segment, I would definitely do it right out of the gate like that. Having said that, I would (hopefully will, someday) do away with a conditioning period and just get it in practice like coachd says.

Yes there was search firm used by UT. The AD was in charge of everything, but let's be real, the big boosters were prolly very much informed if not involved. There were multiple interviews from what I've heard. As for it being done quickly, they were on the hunt for 3 weeks. Is that not long enough? If they have an interview with the guy and he blows them away what's wrong with going ahead and making the hire?
I don't know if any of the other names on your list were interviewed or considered. I don't know that they weren't either. I don't think anybody will ever know except the AD and the firm he worked with.

If you look exclusively at his 5-15 record I think that's probably short sighted. What was the situation around that record, given that it was with one of the most jacked up organizations in sports? He may be a great coach that wasn't given a chance. He may also suck, but there's got to be some reason they went ahead and pulled the trigger on him. With so many unknowns it's hard to make a call without being in on the vetting and interviewing process.

Is your employment based on what you have accomplished, what you can accomplish, or some mix of the two? If you look at the numbers (yeah, I know, stats can say anything) Fulmer has not been producing anywhere near where he used to. Is 16 years of winning 70% of your games each year the same as 8 years winning 80% followed by 8 years of winning 60%? Anyway, if you've been somewhere for that long, you gotta keep winning big cause eventually people are ready for something different and want something different. And it doesn't matter who you are, if you only put 70 thousand in Neyland Stadium you're gonna get canned.

Anybody know what kind of offense Kiffin runs? I'm assuming it's some form of the USC/Chow offense that probably got tweaked after he went to Oakland. But I don't know that much about it.

Taking a knee may keep your best players from getting hurt. Imagine losing your best player for the season because a team gets mad you try to run up the score. I teach my qb's how to take a knee. Come to think of it, I teach the whole 'victory formation' as it's own play and teach the whole offense how to run it.

Although Leach is one of my favorite coaches I don't think he's the right fit for UT.
UT has always recruited nationally, always had to. That's virtually the #1 requirement for the job, being a top notch recruiter.
