Maybe not new, but a weird one we saw in our last game, the Defense vs our 11P sets would play Man-DBL Free. Not really 2-Man but could be construed as that via this description. 4-Down front, 2-Backers in the box. CB's manned on #1 Nickle manned on #2. Backers manned on #3. Both Safeties sitting on/inside the hash just reading the QB/Backfield. Free fitters off the edge in the run, or Hole/Robbers in the pass game. We didn't release our TE much in the pass game so that Backer really just lived in the box, similarly with the RB and his backer. They would also play Cloud/Trap to the single side with that man look to the field. They did some good Trap/Cat stuff to add in some gimmicks. And then they hammered us with Firezone blitzes. Again nothing super new, but that Cover 20ish look was weird to see. Sound like it could a "Fox" type of coverage where the 2 safeties both key the h back (or RB). H back your way, you have him man and/or become an extra hat. H back away from you, you can go to free safety or robber. Great way to plat that look

In Summer 1980 I was in a Graduate-level Coaching Football class taught by one of my college coaches who was also one of the two mentors in my life. One of the first things he said was "Football is in trouble. Be prepared to defend it." I didn't know what he meant at all. But over the years certainly have come to find out. Sounds like a very wise man. Imagine what his opinion would be today.

I agree.
We went to the Atlanta clinic and it was definitely down from past years as far as speakers go.
Not terrible, saw a few that were decent.

We have a school close to us that does morning practice on Thursday.
Mainly special teams and walk through. 60-75 minutes.
They tell all players at beginning of camp to schedule all doctor, dentist, orthodontist, hair cuts, etc..... On Thursdays.
They love it.

Just went and listened to a few of your podcasts, awesome stuff coach! Love the way you play the Mesh with your Apex guys. Questions if you don't mind: 1. Does your OLB away from the back play the same way as to the Back? (take what comes to him from the mesh) ( i am guessing he fires if the back crosses the QB face to stop OS run off Power read) 2. When playing alone in the box Does the your Mike plug his A-Gap on inside zone, or does he back hip whatever ball carrier is determined as the "dive" player (RB IZ, QB pwr read). OP, Great post, got me into a new podcast and some new material, Thanks!! Could you explain how he plays mesh with apex guys?

And they never mentioned his record.....
When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name - it's not going to matter a heck of a lot how many games you won.
AMEN!

They have 4 rooms going at once, a traditional wing t room, a hybrid wing t room, a spread room, and a defensive room. So although its geared to the wing T it has a little bit of something for everyone. Please post dates when you see them. Thanks

Best one I’ve been to in a long time-Southeast Wing T Clinic in dublin ga. Not sure of the dates yet. But last year it was early March. Any defense? All wing-T on offense?

I’m not focusing that much on scheme, but I’ve been diving into to Iowa St’s Dime stuff and i’d Like to know more about the “positionless defense” concept, too. So far I’ve only scratched the surface on the first and I can’t find any specifics at all on the second. I’m also trying to dig deeper into special teams. Most of the stuff I’m looking at are more about efficient practice and offseason training strategies, I’ve been intrigued by a lot of the new-school “prioritize speed and recovery” strategies for offseason training and practice, but in reading up on it I’m still not completely sold on some of the specifics. Special teams is another area that I really need to do a better job. If you have any materials that you find that are beneficial please share.

Ways to help a short quick QB in the "spread offense "
We have traditionally had a tall gunslinger that wasn't very mobile. We have lots of skill returning and a good little system we have in place. We want to add some wrinkles for him and tweak some things due to his running abilities, decision making, but a lot smaller in stature but don't want to rock the boat to much.

Had a random coach send me this. I have no idea who said it or where it came from but thought that it was spot on.
"Most people, even parents, don't really understand what it means when a senior football player's season ends. They don't understand the true finality of it for 95% of these kids.
You can play baseball/softball in rec leagues forever. You can always play a game pick up basketball. You can play golf and tennis as much as you want when you get older. You can run track and enter 5Ks and marathons till you die.
But most high school football players will never ever put on a helmet and play the same game again. You go from being totally and completely immersed in a game you love to being totally and completely shut out from it. That is incredibly difficult.
Football is not a lifetime sport...... But high school football is a once in a lifetime experience"

All football players here have to do the Concussion Impact Baseline Test prior to any contact. If a player is suspected of a concussion they are turned over to the trainer. They administer the test retake and make the determination of a concussion or not. The trainers are the gatekeepers for this. If the kid is concussed then they inform the school that starts their protocols - no homework, no computer work, no pressure. Parents are informed of what they need to be doing with Johnny. Player is basically gone until the retest shows they are back to normal. Then that starts the 5-day increasing physical activity with the team. If that clears then they can play again. Had a Freshmen get a concussion, got run over in practice and hit the back of his head on the ground. That's a Tuesday. Concussion confirmed, here's the protocols everyone, it's in process. Trainer comes to me last Tuesday and says that Johnny has a likely second concussion now. Seems while on the concussion protocol he was swimming somewhere and got hit in the head with a water polo ball. I'm wondering who gets credit for that concussion. How long do you guys wait to retest them after they fail their initial test? How long do you wait to administer the first test once you suspect they have concussion? Your way is what I am looking for. I thought the trainer could administer the first test. Most of the times he sends them straight to Dr. Sometimes he administers the test. Sometimes he lets them go to family dr and they never even take test. Family doctor says hold them out 5 days and they are good. Just looking for how everyone does to try and amend the way we do it. Thanks.

Looking to get some feed back on the way your team/school handles kids who may or may not have a concussion. Also the way they are handled if they are diagnosed with a concussion.
Would like to hear how many use trainers and how many don't. The ones that use trainers how involved they get in the process or do they send them straight to doctor.
The ones that don't have trainers how you handle kids who may or may not have concussion. How many use only one doctor for evaluation or multiple ones.
Also how you handle kids who use family doctors. We have had some family doctors keep them out for weeks and weeks and some who told us they were fine on initial visit when we didn't feel was the case.
Also how you handle parents. We get them telling us them telling us they should play and we agree but doctor wont allow, we get them telling us they should play and we disagree.
Our school teams all handle this very differently and it is starting to get complicated and frustrating. We don't want any kids playing that shouldn't be but do want them when they are ready.
I would like to draw from you guys what is your protocol for these situations. Looking to try and get a uniform policy.

We had one quit because he thought he was losing to much hair taking his helmet off and on. This has to be the winner! That's the reason the kid gave you? Awesome. Yes! Absolutely, just when you think you have heard it all. It really was unbelievable. He was an only child that had really been babied his whole life. It was his junior year. Big kid, decent feet, but soft. He had played on the jv the year before and had a shot at starting in offensive line. Anyway second week of preseason he and his mother come out to practice fields before practice and actually ask us coaches to look in his helmet and at his head to observe the amount of hair loss! They asked if they made any other type of helmets to help with this problem. I continue today to crack up on the inside every time I see this kid around town.
