Anyone subscribe to his defensive stuff? Any good? Worth it?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have not subscribed, but I have listened to a number of his podcasts. He is a high school coach talking to high school coaches. IMHO, his material/ideas can be used at the high school level.

I bought his book Installing Football's 4-3 Over Defensive Front and while it is pretty simplistic (only 76 pages) it has good information and definitely would be of value for coaches looking to go to the Over.

Good speaker/teacher
It’s nothing groundbreaking but you can use it and your kids can play fast.

Coached against him a few times in the past two years, his defensive and offensive stuff is sound from the JV level to the Varsity level. Very basic and simple - he is all about keeping things simple.

Love his podcasts. In my opinion it is the best football podcast I have listened to. I go back and listen to some of them, especially the tackling one, multiple times.

I have listened to a good amount of his stuff. I can say that he is knowledgeable and his entire career is talking / making football content. While I do not know about his paid football program, the guy does know his stuff.

His podcast is easily my favorite football podcast. Especially his non-scheme stuff.

I’m like others. Enjoy the podcast but haven’t done any of the paid stuff.
I do know on a podcast he had said if you purchase a system you can send him some film and he will give some feedback. It’s got to be a bonus that you are getting the opportunity to communicate with him where some systems it’s just information you are getting.

I love his stuff, I highly recommend anyone who coaches at 90% of high schools that aren’t in the upper echelon of TX/GA/CA/FL to at least make yourself familiar with it. He’s just a good dude who will never hesitate to help you even in Twitter DM’s or emails. I believe he’s even on here.
I’ve paid for his stuff, and i can tell anyone who’s on the fence about it that it’s worth every last cent. While you get plenty of good info from the podcast and his YouTube channel, his paid material is a simplified deep-dive into his system.
The funny thing is that his stuff, while detailed, is so simple that even if you don’t run it, you can pick up fantastic cues that you can put into your offense. In September of 2018, I remember hearing him say, “I just tell everyone on our gap schemes to block the backside number” and I immediately used this cue with our kids that midseason and our gap schemes took off from there.

Joe is a good friend and neighbor, and frequent guest in my home. 2 years ago he worked on a great staff, that is was my pleasure to help (offensively). He then became very successful as a Head Coach locally. HIGHLY recommend ALL his stuff!

What does block the backside number mean exactly? It means if you're running the ball to the right and blocking a linebacker, block his jersey number on the left (the inside number). The idea that is with high school defenses they tend to either over run plays, or be heavy spill teams. Meaning if you can hit a little cutback seam because you block the backside number instead of the play side number, you get more yards. We tell the running backs the money's inside. Also, thank you everyone. I didn't know what I was going to find when I opened this thread. Have not been on here in a while.

Just went and listened to a few of your podcasts, awesome stuff coach! Love the way you play the Mesh with your Apex guys.
Questions if you don't mind:
1. Does your OLB away from the back play the same way as to the Back? (take what comes to him from the mesh) ( i am guessing he fires if the back crosses the QB face to stop OS run off Power read)
2. When playing alone in the box Does the your Mike plug his A-Gap on inside zone, or does he back hip whatever ball carrier is determined as the "dive" player (RB IZ, QB pwr read).
OP, Great post, got me into a new podcast and some new material, Thanks!!

He can explain it better than me!! There is good stuff on here about keying Backfield Thanks for sharing joedanielfootball & mackball. We are a 3-4 team and play our OLBs up on a TE as much as possible leaving limited practice time to teach them how to play off the LOS. These are simple reads to teach them so they still play fast when they are apexed!
