One of the analytics guys on the internet said that they had simulated the OT rules last year when the new rule was first announced. Simulated 130,000 times the team going second won 50.14% of the time.

Are you asking which state has the best #5 team in that state? #10 #50 #100 #200?

I can't say this about many people but my life would be very different without him. I lived in Lexington when he and Mumme got hired to Kentucky. His free-thinking really and irreverence affected me. Not to mention I gravitated to their philosophy and have run the air-raid passing game since 2003. The air raid term was coined by him in Lexington by the way. RIP coach.

I don't know about you guys but when I was coaching I put in too many long hours for 11.5 months a year to not play a kid who could help me win because he didn't have the right last name.

Hey all. I’m new to the board and could use advice. I’m a young coach. Been doing it for years but have a situation I’m new to and need help. I got a job with a big time prep school this season. Overall I’m doing great but there is one kid I’m having trouble with. He’s a 4 star going to a big time school with a terrible attitude. He sometimes barely tries in practice, and then blames the coaches for things. How do you handle this stuff when yelling and being hard on him doesn’t do it, and the efforts to build rapport haven’t worked? The bench is undefeated.

Our first scrimmage was first week of august. First real game 3rd week of august. Starting on July 11 doesn't seem like 7-8 weeks? Fair enough... I could be wrong, but I think most of the posters here's first REAL game (not scrimmage, not jamboree) is likely the Friday before Labor Day. When does school open for your school? School starts first week of august here.

My last job we went 2x a week for 2 hours in June. Then state dead period from about june 25-july10. July 11 5 days a week for 2.5 hours total including on field, film and weights. Stopped doing 2 a days about 2014 if I remember. Who would need 2 a days if practicing 5 days a week for 7-8 weeks before labor day? Our first scrimmage was first week of august. First real game 3rd week of august. Starting on July 11 doesn't seem like 7-8 weeks?

1. The 20-hour/week rule 2. CFB has become an extremely complex game X and O-wise. Requires a lot of practice-prep time which takes away from Individual (fundamentals). 3. Climbing each different level of coaching isn't a meritocracy.

If you win the explosiveness battle (using PPP), you win 86 percent of the time. If you win the efficiency battle (using Success Rate), you win 83 percent of the time. If you win the drive-finishing battle (using points per trip inside the 40), you win 75 percent of the time. If you win the field position battle (using average starting field position), you win 72 percent of the time. If you win the turnover battle (using turnover margin), you win 73 percent of the time. This is from 2013 college football game data. It's very, very similar from year to year. -Bill Conelly

I heard it came from youth soccer. Coaches would have the players take a knee if a player was injured to keep them from running around. I heard this too. In youth soccer you may have one adult coach and he has to go tend to the down player. Everyone else take a knee because he can't supervise at that point.

I once had a very generous HC tell me "take anything you want, put your name on it, and when they call for a recommendation I'll confirm its all yours". That's how it should be done. Communication. Call the guy on it.

I've been in the same offensive system since 2003 and had the same philosophy since 1995.We evolve on offense. Defensively I have totally switched at least 3 times. Always looking to match my personnel or schedule and I don't have as set a system of beliefs on defense. Or at least I didn't. Now recently I have more things I believe in but they are not system specific.

Ya, I think he's just looking for someone to justify it. The question is about allowing the players to vote. Thanks I wouldn't let the players vote. The HC is the leader. Lead.

Be careful thinking stuff like "I will get buy in" or "I will get better players out". You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink is a true statement. You can't force people, especially kids who aren't on your payroll to do things. Investigate further why they haven't won and ask the admin if they will even ALLOW you to fix it. Will the parents allow it. Will the kids buy in? You can MAKE those three groups want to do what it takes to win. You can show them, and you can ask them, but you can't force them. Oh and focus on the actions and changes it will take. The time, the effort, the money. Everyone will SAY they want to win..Lastly, you can't do it yourself. The HC is just the top of the pyramid. It takes a village. You need staff, you need boosters, you need admin.

How do you brand your program in and out of your halls? Do you follow a college model? What types of things do you do with social media? What is the budget like? Don't let the other old farts fool you (I'm an old fart now, too)- it is important to "brand" because if you aren't, someone else will and they'll be Crootin your kids away because now a day HS football has an acquisition element to it. I would be authentic. If you're a Wing-T team why not beat the brand on winning the old school way? If you're air raid make sure you #someplanesflyingby I'm half joking... but seriously, I would be authentic to myself and my program. hypothetical: We're the Middle American HS Bumble Bees #BeeGreat20 Grit Relentless Effort Accountability Tough So my pictures on the website, Twitter, weight room walls would be of those things with the #BeeGreat and #GritGang20 Does your front office lobby have a TV? See if they'll put on a PPT you make with graphics and the #BeeGreat20 stuff and even a highlight play or two on the thing. Make up some #BeeGreat20 posters and see if your local bar & grill and fast food joint will hang them T-shirts / visors and neon green arm sleeves (Air Raid only) / towels / Juuls / slap bracelets / sex toys... whatever you can brand with #BeeGreat20 Make sure a student is doing your graphics so they look cool and it boosts their resume too Almost 20 years ago I coached in a city where we were air-raid, another team was one back, some coach was selling himself as running Bowdens fast break, a fourth team was west coast, but the 5th team was 3 back power I. The power I team was always 1st or 2nd in the district for like 2 decades. They had fans and the student section wearing t-shirts that said in bold letters- WE RUN IT. That was good branding and it was almost 2 decades ago.

Is there a bit of an attitude here that is different between offensive head coaches vs defensive head coaches? What I mean is are offensive head coaches less likely to take the standard approach to punt and let the defense win or lose the game on this drive? Maybe. I was a DC but I'm confident that none of the HC's that I worked for would keep the offense on the field on 4th and 4 on our own 10. Keeping the offense on the field wasn't an option.

Fortune favors the bold.-Julius Caesar No risk it no biscuit.- Bruce Arians You play to win the game- Herm Rdwards Offensively and game management situations i'm going to be a go get it type person. Its worked out. Julius Caesar-Murdered by his followers Bruce Arians-Fired by Arizona Herm Edwards-Fired from the Chiefs, out of coaching for a decade
Just saying.
It would also be great if your post was actually accurate. Julius Caesar conquered Gaul, won a civil war, ended the roman republic which led to an empire, stabbed in the back not by followers but jealousy. Bruce Arians retired from the Cardinals. Unretired to coach in Tampa Currently 5th highest ppg in the NFL. Herm Edwards currently head coach at Arizona state 5-3.

I don't coach with a "what could possibly go wrong mentality" normally and certainly not with that much time left. Do you not weigh "risk and reward?" If you do, then "what could possibly go wrong" is the risk side of the equation.
