We changed our lift a thon last year. Instead of going out and getting pledges and then going back to collect money, we make up a sheet with the player's current max, and figure what a donation would be for a couple of amounts, 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, etc. They take the sheet around and if someone wants to donate based on those amounts they can, or if they just want to give 10 or 20 bucks we take it, either way we get the money then, and they don't have to worry about going back out and collecting after we do the lift a thon. Then we do our lift a thon as a weightlifting exhibition, but we use the lifts for the kids to get into our weight clubs.

When we were at the middle school we used the little personal radios with little headsets from walmart. We were at an away game at a school that wasn't very far from the interstate and our little radios were right there with all the truckers. About halfway through the first quarter I'm calling plays in what soulds like greek to anybody not a football coach, and these truckers start calling back on the radio asking me what in the world I'm talking about, except they weren't very nice about it. I'm sure I've made plenty of people mad with my play calls over the years, but I'm not sure any of them have called me some of the things those truckers did that night!

If there's such a thing as "SEC speed" I think it refers more to whole team speed including linemen. Everybody's got speed at the skill positions. I think a lot of mid majors have pretty good speed at the skill positions.

I think I got a little ahead of myself answering that. The system I described was what we used when we were no huddle and the whole offense had wrist coaches. We huddle now and use a wrist coach on our QB and we signal the numbers to him.

What we did in middle school was get a whiteboard to write numbers on. They make fat dry erase markers which write thick enough to see across the field. Our plays were 2 digit numbers on the wristband like yours, so we would write 4 digits on the board and 2 were hot. We usually used the middle 2 numbers, so for your example (18 sweep is number 17) we would write 4178, or 3175, or 9172, etc.
Hope that makes sense.

We use Digital Scout too on a palm pilot. We've used it the past two years and had a student keep it during the games. I'll give it a thumbs up. You can probably get a palm that will work with it kinda cheap on ebay if you don't wanna pop for a new one.

Good point. We're gonna run midline, ISV, and OSV and read 'em all. Sometimes I just have to keep reminding myself that the veer is virtually a series by itself and doesn't need as many counters and misdirections. Good advice. I've seen this with teams we've faced. option coach- thanks for the breakdown. Looks like what others have said it can vary week to week. wingman- how about a slant weakside? Oh wait, this is an option post, sorry. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

We don't run midline as a triple. We lead with PS wing and have BS wing on a rocket path. Would like to look at the gun stuff, but we're just starting the option this year so it's a little on down the road to work that in.
This is kind of what I'm trying to get to. Making sure we don't try to put too much in and have some things we're barely gonna run.
I think 55 is in the ballpark, but an instructor I had in college used to say you can be in the ballpark but still be out in left field. I think it's close though.
Your percentage comment makes sense. I was just wondering if anybody that runs it either has a certain goal to shoot for or finds through self scouting that they get a certain percentage consistently.

tog- Good point about tweaking it to personnel. I didn't mean to make it a very specific question to us, meant to ask in general what do option teams find they get as a ratio of calling options vs. other run plays.
But to make it specific to us, we traditionally have a pretty good FB type of player, We've got one right now that should be a beast for a couple of years, so we're gonna be running a lot of midline and veer for now. QB for now is kinda smallish but quick and has a good head so we feel good about him running the show, and we've one that could be pretty good after him. The rest of our kids are generally wing/slot type guys we'll use to motion as pitch men and rocket sweepers.

Hey option coaches how about a little input. We're installing an option game this year (midline, inside veer, outside veer) with some complements. I don't want to try to put too much in and have more than we can run well or more than we're even gonna run. So my question for you option guys is how many plays per game are options vs. other plays?
My model for this goes back to a post on Chris Brown's blog about how much passing game do you need and I'm trying to apply it to the running game as well. So for example: We're gonna run 55 plays a game, and 15 are passing so that leaves 40 run plays a game. Should we be running 50, 60, 70 percent option? If we can get an idea of how much option we will actually run I think it will help define just how much else we are gonna try to do.

I would guess a lot of the money came from private donors. It's a beautiful facility, but I would have a hard time justifying building it. Maybe that's cause things are so depressed economically that I have a different perspective.

Or my QB gets the crap knocked out of him because he won't just throw the freakin' thing away when there's nothing there. But it's ok, he's 5' 10" 145lbs. so he's pretty durable. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

A dvd recorder works basically like a vcr. Just hook whatever you're playing (vcr, camera) to the inputs. The main thing is that dvd's can't be reused, but you can stop recording and come back and add on where you left off as long as you haven't finalized the disc.

We had a game on a no-school day a couple weeks ago. We brought the team in after lunch and showed them a movie in the auditorium. It ended about the time school is usually out so we went into our regular pre-game schedule then. One thing we heard from the kids is that by not having to get up for school they slept late and laid around most of the morning and felt kind of sluggish that afternoon and it took them a while to get going. If we come across that again we may find something to bring them in for a little while in the morning just to keep their bodies on the same schedule.

That's just it. It's illegal. So they are being taught an illegal technique, and on top of that the refs let 'em do it.

Nope. We're in Tennessee. We kept telling the ref on our side what was happening. Know what he told us? "It's not my call."

We played a team Friday night that was cutting our linebackers. I know there are different opinions on the cut block (mainly if you're an offensive or defensive guy), but most of that deals with people on the LOS. These guys were coming out and diving at legs and/or hitting the ground and rolling into our guys. That seems awful suspect to me, to say the least.

I would say play him at QB. Make the other team account for him on every play not as someone who might get the ball on every play, but who does get the ball on every play. If he's your most talented guy by far put the ball in his hands.

Watching a guy you grew up with pitch in the ALDS: Pretty Cool. Watching him hold the Yankees in check for an inning: Still pretty cool. Watchin him give up an HR to Derek Jeter: Sucks but your still proud of him.
Watching him drop "MF" on prime time national tv: Absolutely hilarious!

How about Robert Loggia's halftime speech from Necessary Roughness? Morgan Freeman's speech in Glory when he talks about it being "time to ante up, and kick in like men!" I guess you can't use Sean Connery's line about winners and losers from The Rock. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

The main thing it all depends on is the type of grass you have. We have bermuda here and we hit it with the reel mower every other day. County extension agent is the best way to go. Ours brought in the guy from UT(ennessee) who is doing the resurfacing in Neyland Stadium to look at ours. They can give you all teh recommendations for watering schedule, fertilizing, aerating, top dressing etc...
