So the game has kicked off an OSU scores early, Whats everyone think? I don't think there is a speed difference between the two teams and I don't think there was a speed difference last year between OSU and florida I think it was a scheme difference. Early on I think OSU can run the ball (obviously from the first drive) but I think that they will have a better game plan to protect the passer this year and get something going early rather than get pushed back on their heels like last year and be forced to be one dimensional.

I agree that the "SEC Speed" advantage is just not there. Beanie Wells ran away from the LSU secondary on that first drive.

I really don't think there is a speed difference when you get to the top tier programs. They all have fast guys, its about what kind of position you put them in. Fast guys out of position look slow.

I agree I never buy into the SEC Speed thing. It's not like Big Ten teams only recruit up north and that northern kids are slower than southern. Teams, no matter what conference have more speed than others, but a whole conference? I don't think so.

I second that. OK here we go again! On new years I miss half the day of football because of snow storm (19Inches). Now the snow is all gone, but I might have to take cover because of damn tornado warnings. 60+ degrees and storming. Right Now I HATE Direct TV. So whats the score?

Agree 100%. I just wish they'd stop talking about it. It seems any time the Big Ten plays the SEC, they trot out the same argument.

The announcers in this game seem to be Over dramatizing a lot of things. Its a football game, 60 minutes long. This isn't professional wrestling, don't make everything out to be the end of the world when its really just an Iso play for 4 yards.

Chris Wells is a man! I hate that my Badgers have to play him, at least it will be for only one more year. Assuming he leaves early!!

If there's such a thing as "SEC speed" I think it refers more to whole team speed including linemen. Everybody's got speed at the skill positions. I think a lot of mid majors have pretty good speed at the skill positions.

Not really sure why LSU is trying to turn Flynn into Tebow. They are going to get him killed. Let the big guy run if it you want to run those plays.

I don't mind announcers and hype...that is their job. Report on the game, and sell your product.
WHAT I CAN'T STAND however, is when the color commentator points out "mistakes" by players (usually coverage situations) that one couldn't really know unless they knew the play/coverage call. For example, saying that Steltz's injury prevented him from being the "over the top" safety... when the coverage looked like man coverage ..

I dislike both these teams quite a bit, but I dislike LSU and Les miles more so I really hope Ohio STate has a miracle in their halftime locker room cuz they need it. LSU is starting to roll right now.

Number of formations being used by both teams is mindboggling!
LSU scored 1 TD out of an unbalnced formation...was tOSU's TD also out of an unbalanced formation? Looked like a tackle-over formation...thought I saw a #88 next to the OG on the side away from the play.
What does everyone think about Boeckman's boot action? I think that he is not selling the run well at all...he isn't even really faking to the running back. Doesn't look like anyone on the LSU is biting on it. tOSU is actually running the ball pretty well...boot should be a good play for them.

Did I just walk into Footballscoop.com, or is this a legitimate football site?
How about LSU's stunts and blitzes on defense? Do you think they will turn up the heat in the second half?
Do you think OSU will try to stay balanced or will they try to air it out early?

Post by Yash on Jan 7, 2008 21:16:23 GMT -6
Well I think it depends on what LSU does on their first drive, if LSU marches on them again I think Ohio State goes to the air to try and play catch up. If they can force a 3 and out though, OSU can try and get back to the run. They gotta quit running tosses into the boundry though. Give your speed some space to work with.

LSU is probably the best team I've seen there year in terms of being able to line up in the I and run the ball and and still be able to spread things out and be extremely effective still. Most teams seem to be a true spread team or a true under center power running team but LSU has the players to do both.
