I have coached in Florida 29 years. 3 in Georgia and 3 in Alabama.
Florida doesn’t do football right except in isolated situations.
To fund that proposal would cost “someone” more than $50 million 😳
Even if you made it reasonable—HC $10k and assistants $5k (that would DOUBLE what most get now)—it would cost $8 million plus.
Here’s why it won’t happen:
1. Supplements are county based. They don’t have the money. Period. 2. Title 9 would derail the train if it did have steam. 3. Teachers would revolt. Most haven’t gotten a raise in decades. For coaches to get a big bump for an “extra curricular activity” would incite a strike if not riots, burning, and pillaging …..
In other words, it sounds good but it’s a fairy tale.

Seems that we always hear “player led teams are better than coach led” teams.”
But how does this happen AND keep the standard of excellence when lacking leaders?
Advice and book suggestions welcome. Thanks!

We had it in Alabama. No issues, loved it. Cooler definitely

For those of you that meet individually with your RETURNING players, what are some questions you ask and things you discuss?

Last year I found a new way to get LOTS of info that you’re looking for. The coordinator might be too busy to share details and spend time with you. BUT HIS GA ISNT! Those guys often know more than the position coaches. And they’re young and hungry, so they’re excited to share with you the inside info and details you want. I was pleasantly surprised TWICE with dealing with GA’s...

We bought some two years ago. After 17 days of spring, they were tattered The owners of the company visited practice, saw this, and gave us 30 more. At the end of the season, they gave us another set. And this year they gave us 40 more. Lol. Now our entire program wears them.
I like them. They keep the paint on our helmets. And I do think they help with concussions, especially with OL/DL. And if parents think so, that’s pretty helpful.
Overall, I think they’re a good investment both for the health of your players and for the preservation of helmets making it thru the season.

Toucan Charlie’s has a solid breakfast buffet. Even includes country fried steak and cheese grits. Highly recommend :-)

I want to start a program where our players recognize teachers , and we make a big deal about them.
A jerseys to wear, attend pre game meal, stand on sideline , etc.
Anyone ever do this and have ideas to share on how to implement and it went?

We have two color stars, white and black.
For the whites ones, if we WIN every player gets a star. No win, no stars. We have 3 offensive goals, 3 defensive, and three special teams. If we achieve the goal in a win EVERY player who dresses gets a star. So the best players have the same number of stickers as the backups.
The black stars are for CHARACTER. The faculty emails my their choices every week for players wo stand out in their classes for leadership, effort, humility, honor, and other characteristics we want our young men to exhibit.
I read the emails to the team before pre game meal every week and hand out the stars. The team claps for every player who gets one.
If you email me I will send you the chart for the white stars with the team goals. richard.darlington@ocps.net

We put our top guys in Riddell Revo Speeds, but seems like every guy who gets a concussion wear THAT helmet.
I am not real familiar with Schutt, Zenith, etc.
What do you coaches feel is the BEST helmet for protecting players from head injuries?
