Well, I guess I'll go ahead and turn in my headset. I will NOT become a flag football coach..... Bingo.

No need for a call sheet when you have 5 maybe 6 calls total.

yesterday was better. we got our base formations in (Tight Double Wing /Tight Stack (Stack I), and Slot Double Wing / Slot Stack) our line is still...developing. if anyone has any ideas on how to get kids to fire forward instead of step back...im all ears. im having a, not so strange problem. a few of our kids have nagging injuries - ankles etc. but they wont tell us. so i jump on a kid for dogging it, come to find out from the trainer, hes had an ankle sprain for 2 weeks.... Get more weight on their hand in their stance... When they lift their hand they should either fall flat on their face or step forward... No choice but to fire out...

i seem to have offended with a few with my block somebody comment thought it was something everyone disliked guess it is just a personal pet peeve It's not just you... We have man blocking rules so I'd much rather want us to block the right guy instead of just some guy...

"I bet our alignment issues on defense are the fact that my circles I draw on the board aren't to scale."
Spoken by our DC that lined up in 11 different fronts 11 straight weeks...
True story...

We've had multiple State Championships, put three guys into the NFL (one a recently inducted into the HOF), numerous college players and are usually competitive/make playoff runs on a yearly basis, have very strong local rivalries, promote the program and youth leagues like crazy, are located in a small but close community...
We rarely have a packed stadium...

Thinking about coaching from a individual coaching ability perspective...
At what point did you know (or had the light bulb go off) to start coaching from a proactive approach instead of a reactive approach...
For example: Keeping your position groups (or teams) mental focus on the task and motivating them to be their best instead of focusing on discipline for mental mistakes... Or completely detailing a drill from beginning to end and drilling for good reps instead of correcting as you go and/or having to restart the drill?... Or practicing a scheme/fundamental well in advance for a specific tactic you may see to stop your base scheme/fundamental...
For you HCs when you see an assistant coaching reactively instead of proactively how do you relay that message?

As we are attempting to turn the corner in our program we realize one major flaw in our kids is that we are not very resilient when facing adversity. What are things that you guys do in your program to help promote mental toughness. Anything you can offer would be very helpful and greatly appreciated!! One thing that I think helped was, on Offensive days, running 10 Prefect instead of sprints. Just what it sounds like: They have to run a play EXACTLY the way it should be run then sprint ten yards. Finish ten of them and you're done. No yelling and screaming. Just tell them what was wrong and run it again. Perfect means perfect. Somebody's in a bad stance? Run it again. Bad splits? Run it again. Eventually they get the idea that they have to do it right every time, even if they're tired or if somebody else is screwing up. We use this same philosophy when it comes to running sprints. The only ones that count are the ones done with 100% effort by the entire team, all coaches have to give a thumbs up in approval... If not it doesn't count... 10 sprints can turn into 15 or 20 real quick...

I heard some coaches talk about how they teach tackling to minimize concussions as part of their concussion talk. I thought it was an awesome idea. Consider that stolen!

What all do you cover with parents in your meetings right before the season starts?
Major points are obviously: Team Rules, Practice/attendance expectations, Concussions, Injury protocols, etc...
Anything off the wall or anything you can share would be great!

How about kids "falling out" with one coaching staff after his sophomore year (was playing behind multiple D1 and D2 junior scholarship guys) goes to another local school and has a great year and has another "falling out" to go back to the original school because all the other studs were gone???
What does that fall under?

Probably a lot more pressure on the defense these days due to tempos/vast differences in offensive schemes...
Also, if not two platoon, usually, less practice time during the week than the offense to prep for an opponent...

Position coaches determine who starts with my final say. We are small so we have one sub for two maybe three positions and one or two swing players that can sub in at a couple different spots.

I just told all "prospects" at our football meeting that football is hard and not for everyone but the rewards are more than worth it. If it isn't for you then that is fine just don't drag out a lie to coaching staff or the players. No hard feelings.

We had a kid once who was lazy, mouthy, and just plain nuts. One day the head JV coach had had enough and kicked him off of the team. Threw him off of the practice field and sent a manager with him to collect his equipment. The next day, his dad's at the door. He wasn't angry. His older son had played for us, we had a good relationship, and he knew that the kid was off but he did want to know why we'd made his son walk home in nothing but his boxers. What we hadn't taken into consideration was that the kid was a soccer player. Traditionally, our soccer players didn't change in the locker room, they went home and dressed. When we took his practice pants he didn't have anything else to wear. The kid never said anything and was just whacky enough to walk home in his underwear. The dad understood. Rarely do I really laugh out loud but this one got me... LOL

The PC answer is: I divide duties as evenly as possible.
The REAL answer is: I divide the duties according to who can get those specific jobs efficiently.
Some guys have more jobs than others... Some guys have more important jobs than others... All roles and jobs can change quickly if they aren't getting done right...

Get your returners that quit back out there. Show them some love and find a way to lure their interest back. They are kids and are a little disappointed right now but that will pass. And when it does put the full press on them to return.
