Maryland will have 3 8 week seasons with no state playoffs. Winter goes first starting February 1, Fall mid March, Spring Mid April. Basically every sport will play half of their normal games. Each sport will have a 3 week pre-season (no scrimmages) then football will play 5 games. Better than nothing but no playoffs sucks!

I believe if your hudl account is frozen for a period of time (2-3 months) they swipe everything, rosters, video, highlights, playbooks, etc.. If you are looking to put on hold I would download everything to an external drive.

We are scrambling to find an opponent for week 2 next year and might have to travel from MD to Ohio (280 miles). If you have done this before can you help me with the following questions:
1. It is roughly a 4.5 hour trip, did you do day of the game? Usually we play Friday nights. 2. When you came back after the game did you stay the night somewhere or just travel over night? 3. What came up as an obstacle that you did not see going in? 4. Would you do it again or would you have just taken a bye week?
Any other insight or experience is appreciated.

Reward the kids who do all the stuff right. If you aren't going to kick him off (and probably shouldn't if he works hard) then just reward the kids with some sort of pizza or donut type thing at the end of each testing cycle. However you need to organize the reward system to exclude him and others like him until they start showing the effort or that they care to make it on time. If they never do then be content with them not getting the reward or discipline, suspend, remove.

What do you do when you have doors that won't lock or stay locked in your gym (to the outside and to the hall). We have asked for almost two years for this to be corrected or addressed. Our administration does as much as they can but get shot down over their heads. What do you do in that situation without seeming like you're throwing your administrators under the bus because they truly are trying.

Vs. Trips do they keep a FS or play a 4-3 box and 3 on 3 to trips and 1 on 1 away? If they keep a 7 man box throw to your best match up (#3 in trips vs their 3rd or 4th best cover man.) I like shake (Corner post) or just a streak/pop If they keep a FS deep so they play 4 on 3 to trips and 1 on 1 back side with fly up the field 5 techs, trap the crap out of them or get cute and wall it all down and run a shovel pass away from trips to the back or "Option" the 5 tech with speed option, if he feathers pitch shovel to #3 in trips running shovel pass path or if he squeezes keep/pitch. Can also Line up in I formation twins right. So TE left, Twins to the right, then motion a RB outside of the TE will the corner widen and nothing else change? If so run TE pop, if rotation happens or box weakens then run QB Power or Counter. 44 team Bring both OLBs over v. trips FS is in the middle heavy v. run and deep v. pass on pass downs Coach not to nit pick but fs can't be heavy run and great vs. Pass unless they are d1 and you're jv. He who has the chalk last or the best coached studs will always win. Pick a plan coach it and sell out with it let the kids decide it. If you lose don't be the reason

Qb runs. Also find you're best route runner or man beater and put him at #3 in trips. If they can cover your best man beater with ilb while stopping qb runs them waive the white flag and punt. I also like attacking defenses that spin safeties and olb they usually spin down decent but not over enough with olb spinning back. So smash to the side they spinner down to with a shake (corner post route) conning from backside. Middle of the field should be side open. Nice ideas They cover #3 with the OLB--will bring from the other side Can you draw up your route combo thoughts...interesting! Vs. Coaches,
Those of you that practice offense and defense every day, how do you split your time? We have to stay in a 2hr 15min to 2.5 hour time frame. Including Warm Up specials, ofeense and defense. We are an I formation gap scheme run heavy team.
My thoughts =
7 min warm up 70 Min Offense (20 min O Pos, 25 inside run, 15 min 7 v 7, 10 min team) 15 Min Special Teams 45 Minutes Defense (10 min position, 15 7v7, 20 min team)
Water at each practice area to eliminate prolonged breaks and all of this is predicated on having a full staff with all sessions scripted so that reps aren't sacrificed because of bad organization.
Offensively each day would have a focus Ex: Power Run and Variations, Boot/Naked Passes

We have a very small staff so everyone coaches both sides of the ball. Filming is not really an option. The effort would increase if we told them to. Just trying to figure out what to tell them so we get a look without a scout team all american taking out one of our starters. I am thinking the D-Line fires out and holds on to go on a ride "Under Control" Backers if they get blocked fit up and do the same, if they get by then buzz and tag the ball carrier. Secondary cannot leave their feet to make a play but anything else goes as far as coverage.

Just wondering what you all do in practice as far as expectations for intensity and ensuring you get a decent look but not killing the kids . Do you tell the scout team how to play, etc.. We won't ever go to the ground (and I don't think we need to) but now we basically do a glorified walk thru the entire practice. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think mentoring and developing young coaches is crucial but it is harder to find a young guy that is willing to actually pay his dues and put in time with out much role on Friday night. You need to find a guy who has caught the coaching bug and just wants to learn. IMO there are way more 20 year olds thinking they are ready to run the offense or defense then that are ready to do whatever is needed (fill coolers, set up drills, breakdown film). My first 5 years were as an assistant to a JV position coach (essentially an intern) but showed up to everything, asked questions, and watched film with the older guys to learn what I was missing. In the long run I think it has made me a much better coach as far as knowing what needs to be done and willing to do the grunt work.
We have JV coaches that I am not sure whether or not they would coach if we asked them to film the Varsity game for us on Friday nights or go scout.

If he is going to quit with this tiny bit of adversity just imagine how quick he will quit or point the finger when things do not go well in a game next year when he is "The Man".

Coaches,
We currently play in a 12 team conference where we play all 10 of our games in conference and miss one team for two consecutive years. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to who we miss each time the new two year schedule comes out. We have missed the same opponent 5 out of the last 8 years which seems more than just coincidental.
We want to create a 10 year schedule where everyone gets assigned a number 1-12 and the schedule is already set team 1 plays team 8, etc... for each week. Then you draw the number and that is what schedule you have. The opponent that you miss each year will become your week 1 opponent the following year and your week 10 opponent will drop off the schedule for a year.
We are running into an issue with trying to get the same number of home and away games for each year as this changes based on what the team played in week 10 of the previous year.
Is anyone aware of a program, website, existing template that would accomplish this? We want to present this to our Conference Administrator soon.
Thanks!

We are by no means a state power but we average 7 wins per year and after our first scrimmage we are in uppers the rest of the year. Our main goal in practice is to get our game plan in while keeping everyone healthy. We are fortunate that our kids can go 50-75% in practice and they bring it 100% on Friday nights. I have been in other places where if we were not full pads every day we would not get anything done because the focus completely changed when we went uppers. I think it just depends on your situation and there is not an one way fits all way of doing it.

If you have a lot of talent .500 is not that great an acomplishment. Having a scheme that is easy to learn and is adaptable to talent from year to year is what gets you that .500 record when you may not have the best team out there. If you are loaded with talent you can probably run anything and be .500. Stick the year out so you do not get a bad reputation but look for another job next year with someone you can learn from. The biggest lesson to learn this year might not be how to coach but how to get thru an impossible situation. Get the linemen to work hard and buy in, work on your motivation skills this year because it does not seem that anything else is realistic.

I think there should be an appeals process then for the following game suspension. If a ref totally blows the call on a hold or PI you can recover but blows it on this the kid could be missing 20% of his senior year!

Thanks

IMO if they make the team the best players have to play otherwise you are not giving the team the best chance to win.

What does everyone wear for coaching in practice and games? For a while I have worn Nike Turf Shoes but they have completely worn out and need to buy a new pair but having trouble finding some. I wear a size 16.
