We are a school of about 400 and have between 60 to 70 kids in the program. 2 Levels Varsity and Fresh-Soph. When we go Offense its 1st O with 3 to 4 subs based on personnel groupings. Then create the best scout team left of the best available but also rotate everyone in every 3 to 4 reps. One thing we have started doing on Wednesdays because its the day we can do stuff together is when we go 1st Defense. We have our scout team of varsity guys running the other teams plays and then have our Fresh-Soph offense running their plays. So we are able to get about 30 plays in against our 1st D in about 15 minutes. Scout team goes, fresh-soph team goes. It has worked well, this year our fresh-soph is going to be a little undersized and we may have our best varsity team ever so no sure how well it will work, because I don't want some freshman getting crushed by our all conference DT but we will see.

Are they competitive with each other...or do they just not like each other? There is a difference. I think its a mix of both but there are absolutely some kids that don't like each other, I can't overlook that

I hate the phrase team bonding because I think its some what over used. But we are in a situation where both our seniors and juniors are pretty talented but don't see eye to eye. They are both super competitive and they are very loyal to their class. We have an opportunity to be pretty good but have to mesh as a team. What are some things you have done in the past to help with this, I am looking for literally anything. Thanks.

Probably the most talented class we have ever had at the school I am at right now. A lot of them would have really benefited from the summer camp circuit. Are their any states or schools doing any summer camps or combine type things this summer?

Had a some what similar situation last year was my first full off season as HC, some kids lifted some didn't see the value, after the season was over I only talked about getting stronger and this is how we can compete with the teams that are winning state. I found 4 or 5 kids who were totally on board and I lifted with those kids everyday, we had a program that showed the progress we were making weekly and eventually our group grew to about 15 to 20 and during the summer we had about 30 of our 35 guys there about 90 percent of the time. I truly think finding the right kids to be your advertisers for importance of lifting is huge. We also created a 1000 pound club, gave shirts for making it, posted a decent amount to social media of our guys lifting, kids wanted to be involved. This year to somewhat combat the kids who play basketball and want to lift we convinced the school to move homeroom period to the last hour of the day. Myself and another coach are there during that period and all kids that want to lift get out during that period if they are eligible and come lift for about a half and hour which is better than nothing but also takes away the excuse of rides and practice.

Somethings we have done to help this problem is, try and have a set schedule. Monday has always been Gameplan, Film, and Weights and then go out if we need to. Tuesday film of opponent really for both our scout guys to get an idea and our starters to see what it looks like. Wednesday another lift and chalk some stuff up if we looked rusty at anything Tuesday, (one thing that has helped is having the kids draw up stuff, makes them study the gameplan and a great learning tool). Thursday is always study table and weekly awards. All of those can last up to an hour or can be as short as you would like.

We are looking into making some goal boards this season for offense, defense, and special teams. What are some things you guys put on your boards, obviously the first goal is win the game, defensively we play in a run heavy league so less that 125 rushing, 100 passing would be an option, 2+ turnovers, no offside penalties, just thinking out loud, what do your guys boards say for goals?

I have a kid, on my team who I truly think can make it to a high level, FCS or higher as a punter. I currently coach in Illinois about 2 hours west of Chicago an hour and a half south of Madison. I am lucky for some camps that I could send him to, not showcases but to get taught how to punt. Anyone have any luck sending any of their kids to punting/kicking camps?

Anyone ever made a Lineman chute either out of wood or welded together themselves? They are extremely expensive. I have some parents that are pretty creative, and I would say that I am pretty good also. I think I could could make one easily for less that 300 dollars. Anyone have an dimensions they have used before?

Looking for Practice Plan templates, all would be appreciated. We are a program of about 40 to 45 kids Freshman through Seniors. We practice together and everyone plays offense and defense. If anyone has work documents or excel sheets or anything that would be a great help. Thank you!!

How often are you guys playing music during practice? We play music every day for every session except team teach. I love the loudness/chaos it somewhat creates, also really puts the kids in a better mood I believe, we play stuff the kids like mixed in with a few song coaches like, we are a pretty young staff so most of us actually like what the kids listen to. We are at a catholic school so it has to be clean which is easy to find.

So first time head coach, been leading the program for about 3 months now, everything has been going great kids are lifting hard and the program was left in pretty good shape. We just received a 1,000 dollars check from a donor to do with what we please. I am looking to buy something for practice. We already have endzone camera, decent sleds, running back shoots, and lineman cage. Just looking for some advice on what you guys think are must haves for practice equipment or what you would buy that is somewhat new? What would be on you practice equipment wish list?

I recently took over as the head coach at a private school in my town. The town has two high schools one public and one private. The Public school has about 1200 kids, has been down record wise for the last couple of years, the private school has about 130 kids and has been to the quarterfinals in there division the last two years. We have 3 private middle schools in town one is a direct feed to the private high school and the other two, most of those kids go public. I want to try to get most of those kids from the two privates to choose the school I am at. What are some ideas people have for building a kind of pipeline. In all honesty if I can get 10 more kids a class that would be more than enough. Just looking for ideas to get kids interested specifically 8th graders that will be freshman.

Looking for some creative ideas and advice here.
Over the past few years at the program I am at we have had a lack of good character kids take an interest in football. There are a lot of good character kids in our school but they play are trending towards playing sports like baseball, soccer, and golf in our school. We have not been that successful as of late, but I believe that the lack of good character kids has something to do with that. Our team consists of mostly 1 parent kids who do not have a ton of support and our parental involvement has not been the greatest. I do not want to lose any kid but the previous coach was a little to easy to keep around a really bad character kid, when most of the staff thought they should be let go.
Have any coaches had experience with really raising expectations and weeding out the real bad character kids. Did that make some of the good character kids who don't want to deal with the BS come back out for football.
I think character development type meeting can possibly help this but just unsure about the actual buy in we will get.
Just look for ideas or advice coaches may have done to attract some of the better character kids in their school to go out for football again?

I am looking for ideas that other coaches have done to brand their high school program. Obviously I see a lot of what college teams are doing to really build their program as a brand and realize that high school budgets do not consist of that type of money. So I am asking what other coaches have done to build community support, school support, etc..... What have coaches done to really get people behind their program. A little background we are a pretty low socioeconomic community, we had some huge success for about 10 years about 10 years ago and have not won since. I would say kids aren't going out because they do not want to be part of a loser what have coaches done to change that?
