I like both sides start off with 10 plays, then after go down and distance. That way you get a little of both.

I agree, also as HC you have to always be on the search for more "dudes" cause those guys will the a HC somewhere else one day and will need to be replaced, and the next level guys won't cut it.

I agree you don't have to play with them 24/7 they are awake. And thinking about football is different than doing football work. but good points were made.

I guess to answer the question then depends on your marital status and then more importantly the kid status. IMO if you spend more time with football in the Off Season then your kids that's just PLAIN STUPID sorry no excuse. We take away from our families so much during the season that the off season it should be swayed the other way..I always find it funny when coaches get on here and complain about commitment and not wanting to do this and that, then we do the same thing when we fail to be committed to our own family. One of the winning-est football coaches in our state made a great statement at a clinic he spoke at. "Never do football work at home while your kids are awake" he went on to say "you may have to stay up really late or wake up super early, but you make the sacrifice not your kids"

That's why behind any successful program (unless they have just absolute animals) you will find a SUPER SUPPORTIVE ADMINISTRATION!!!!!!! You CAN NOT build a program from the ground up without an administration that will SUPPORT YOU!!!!!! With weak administration its too easy for those who are unhappy for destroy what you are trying to build.

No...so what's your point, or do you have one? I think the point is that, No, you can not dictate who gets to come in your class just like a reg history class, BUT while in that class they follow what the teacher has for them to do. Same could go for the weight room, if they are going to come in the weight room they will follow the workout that you have assigned for them. Now this can be an universal sport workout, that not only focuses on the skills of one sport, BFS has pretty good easy workout that all students can follow. So have it set up to where everyone knows that when they come into the weight room during his time they will be follow this specific routine, you sell this to administration based on safety of all the kids, its a lot easier watch everyone if they are doing the same thing. Now just like reg classes you also have Advanced classes that everyone can't get in cause they don't meet the required requirements. This can be more sport specific, say have BB come in at 5 and football at 6 or something like that. There are ways around being able to control whats going on. Just agree with the point that anyone can be at the class time, but preach that safety of the student is why everyone will do same lifts when in the weight room.

I'm not opposed to them going to a trainer if they participate in our training as well...anything those kids do on their own to get better is great. The other sounds like it sucks but every program and school has its problems when they are struggling. Encourage the kids to work hard and do whatever they can to improve, if that's spending an extra hrs working out more or doing more agility drill Great! As long as they put their time in with the team as well. There was a group of us that did extra lifting and running in high school, we all went to college. In college a group of us did same thing. Again I have ZERO PROBLEMS with them having a trainer as long as they work with the team as well.

Herd a coach say "can't save them all, Jesus was only able to save 11 of 12"...thought that was pretty good.

LOL never said I agree with what they did....but I do have a question, you have colleges come in and ask about a particular kid who is terrible at school misses workouts and is a selfish individual who cares only about himself. When that college coach ask you about him are you going to lie or are you going to tell him the truth, and if you tell him the truth do you consider it bullying?
Will let you on a little secret about coaching too, there are coaches who have been fired and those who are going to be fired...if someone wants you fired they can make up whatever they want and fire you...just the type of world Some people created....

Don't like it public, but I think most are going to be honest about kids when colleges come around. If a kid is a turd are you not going to tell him he has got problems? Again don't make it public but it's not like your going to lie and say nice things about him when colleges come in. Same for him, prob should not have posted it, but not like hurt their chances of going to pros any different if it was not posted and just told the scouts in private when they came.......and for the post about bullying?? Come on your not serious are you?

retiring jersey or number? Know schools who display a kids jersey with his accomplishments and a action picture, but kids still wear the number when they get new jerseys.

OH...and Concussions CAN be diagnose using scans....EEG, Head CT, and MRI are all ways that Dr can diagnose a concussion, and more importantly the severity of the concussion. Now is that the only way, NO, but it is a very effective way to determine a concussion...concussions now have taken on a new definition, just like most things in this country, so your right on it has changed more broad in its diagnose, functional problems are signs, but lots of people may experience a concussion with no functional problems, heck by some standards may not even know they had one. That's why this is a big issue right now, there have been WAY SEVERE cases that Dr's made the assumption that a concussion "may" have cause something to happen, and the media took it an ran, now everyone is trying to figure out what to do. When truth is there probably have been no studies on concussions except the SEVERE OVERKILL and we will error on the side of caution, which is a good thing. Right now at this point that's what we are trying to find out is what is the right spot, and we are starting with safety first (which is GREAT) but must be willing to modify as we learn.

I just have a little problem with the test when, I myself can go out right now run around a little and get good and winded and come back and fail a test that will determine if I have concussion like symptoms....... Also what about kids with IEPs? Dr says hey this kid has a concussion cause he can't read these words clearly and fluently....No kidding?? Could it be cause he reads on a 4th grade level, has dyslexia, and speech impediment?? Like I said, I'm all for our kids safety, but asking a kid to read something or memorize something and have to say it backwards is a little far fetched in diagnosing a concussion, when they may not be able to read unless its in that quiet, no distraction setting.......kinda like the way they take the pre-test in. Im a little biased cause I'm a special ed teacher, and SEVERAL of my kids are on the team.

I watch the NFL to see who good my fantasy guys did, does that count? To me fantasy football is what has taken nfl to a whole new level in terms of money and ratings....I still don't watch many, will watch Brady this weekend cause somehow he seems to win with no matter who is on his team or who he is throwing to.

I agree that everyone should be safe, but I hate it when people come out and say that this causes this and that....when truth be told their have probably not been any true studies on the brain when it come to concussions, except in the extreme version. Kinda like steroids, (not saying they are good)there have been zero studies on the effects of steroids, except in the extreme cases. ANYTHING in excess is too much. I remember hearing about a woman dying cause she drank too much water to win a PS3, does that mean water is bad NO...As far as the test...its based on how fast you answer questions compared to when you took it when rested. I could not take one hit and just go out and run a mile and my time would enough to probably diagnose me with a concussion.

Why is the son at a different school? I'm thinking that is a family decision that he is not from what I'm gathering, if that's the case then doesn't sound like a school your going to call home if you don't want your kids there.

If my son played football, and I was a football coach, he would play on my team. Almost every place has a policy that teachers kids are allowed to attend same school.
I don't have to worry about that right now, I have 2 girls. My problem sometimes is teaching girls who daddy's new team is lol.

I agree, concussions have become norm cool thing if you want to say. Plus it's the ease get out card if things are not going good, cause who's going to second guess a concussion.
