i was under the impression that hand start laser finish was no different than a stop watch with a laser finish.
But I am more concerned with consistency than the most accurate way to time. If they get faster I want it to be because of the training program and their effort and not because Im having a good thumb day.

so your times will be .2-.3 slower than laser-laser and much slower than hand-laser, but it will be fairly consistent. should be similar to hand laser.

It's absolutely absurd to be speaking about protein powder in terms of performance enhancer any more than you would classify milk that way. Protein powders are nothing more than milk proteins wih most of the fat and sugar removed. Completely absurd. And I hate the see your doctor bit. They don't know because that's not their specialty. I have a degree in exercise phys with multiple nutrition classes. If I remember correctly doctors only take four hours of nutrition. It's not what they do. Here is what I do... If they ask I say any protein powder is fine and not to think about any different than you would food. The key is to eat. Protein powders can help do that more efficiently. I tell them I buy whatever is on sale. Next if they ask about any supplement I will tell them my opinion. My opinion is usually if it's legal it doesn't work. If it's something like creatine or fish oil I tell them where they can find some good information on it and that they need to show it to their parents and they can make a decision. Just about any thing else and I tell them the money best spent on food.
Perfect example. Kid asked me about some crap supplement. I said hey there's some good new research on vitamin d. Do some research on it. Now he's taking more vit d. His family and him made the decision. I just said do some research.

Ive spent the last 8 seasons gaining and losing the same strength and muscle every year. It was way easier before I had kids. Also while taking on more responsibility I just dont have the mental energy to lift hard. My first two years I competed in powerlifting and would do a meet right after the season was over. I couldn't imagine doing that now.

then on the side of the article were like 5 articles talking about studies that say pretty much the opposite. One said as little as one year of contact sports changes the brain negatively.

If you have any way of splitting up and having two half line drills going at once you can have every player involved and a ton of reps. For example the right side of your offense is running its plays while the left side is running there plays. Go back and forth between each side so that one side is resetting while the other side is running their plays. If you are short on numbers just put the essential defensive players that you need to block. You can have the QB and RB in there or just line and TE is you are short on numbers. You can use the same concept on defense. One half of your defense goes through their reads and reactions while the other side resets, etc. Great way to test option assignments, gap control, reads against pulling guards. this is what we do. we go half offense and have wr too. we have a coach or hurt player stand behind the defense with play cards that have a couple of runs and a couple of PA passes. Best look we have gotten. You actually get a chance on your playaction in practice. We do this for about 20 minutes. We have a set number of plays we will practice according to what we think we willl get this week and after 5 minutes we switch the qbs and rbs. centers switch a few times. one group is setting up while the other is running a play. after 10 mins we switch the plays and do something different. Then our team is very short and only consists of our complementary plays and passes.

you would think this wouldn't be an issue anymore. maybe next time other coaches should do a little research.

I hate football during football season. Just started enjoying it a week ago. I just call out formation and play without thinking. My wife said watching football was better for us when I didnt know anything. And announcers drive me so crazy that I end up mad.

I have two sets of twins that were born on December 22, 2008 and December 20, 2010 so after games is my time when everybody in my house is asleep and I can grade film. All assistants are required to grade film before Sunday. We meet around 2. We will watch the opponent as offensive and defensive staffs and draw up how we think they will line up to each formation we run and then eliminate formations and plays that aren't good that week. Could be 6 or it could be 10. I will usually watch a ton of film when my kids are down for naps on Saturday but I try to be home when I am home if that makes sense. If the kids are up, I try to be daddy getting the crapped kicked out of myself in the floor.
I will tell you this though. As an almost life long option coach, nobody ever plays us like they play everybody else. So game planning for too long on Sundays can be pretty much a waste of time. I cant tell you how many times I have been in the box after 2 plays and said that watching film is a complete waste of time.

I think the difference occurs when you obviously outclass the other team talent wise. Ive been on both sides and you get nothing by blowing out a team that really just can't help it.
