Apologies if this has already been brought up, but I find "signing ceremonies" for some kid who is going to play D3 ball particularly annoying. We have a couple schools around here that make a big deal about it. I always wonder, what exactly are the kids signing? Just saw on Twitter the other day...some kid tweeted that he was "blessed to receive me 2nd offer from (small private D3 school that is going to charge $30,000/yr to play football) College. equally annoying are the ceremonies for the kids going to play D1 ball. A lot more kids are getting paid to go to school for other reasons... The signing ceremonies (For kids who are getting actual scholarships) don't bother me. Ceremonies for verbal commitments are another thing.

A lot more kids are getting paid to go to school for other reasons... I get the D-1 ceremonies. That is a huge accomplishment and it is something that should be celebrated. I also agree with you that we should do a better job of celebrating kids who are getting scholarships for non-sports reasons. We should be celebrating ALL kids who have achieved something significant due to their hard work or abilities. But the kids going to some D3 school or crappy JUCO...it's not even really an achievement. It's manufacturing praise and distinction for the mundane. And I say that as a guy who played four years of D3 football at an above-average program. When I went to college, I was never under the illusion that one of the biggest reason I was there was because my check cleared!

Rage probably isn't the right word for this, more like "made me chuckle", but when a player posts an instagram message with the quote "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" and then doesn't show up to any of the first three summer workouts... That is funny, and probably deserving of its own thread. Could fit in the D1bound thread too. Right!!! Just spoke about this recently!!
