I'll be in Tempe this weekend on business and thought I'd look for a game to see on Friday night. Anybody around that area?

I could see the forest if it weren't for these damn trees! I've done the same thing about 5 times this off season with our offense. Trying to simplify and end up making it more wordy or confusing.

Well, it's finally here. (Or is that, it's here already?) Getting my first game plan of the year together, staff meeting tonight after church, sleep deprivation til late fall. I love football season!

But does he have to get the super blue chip recruits? I don't think so. He's been competitive with upper tier teams at Navy without top 5 or 10 or 20 recruiting classes. I would hazzard a guess that most of the players he gets are unrated. (total guess cause I don't know, but I just don't remember hearing about the great classes Navy pulls in) So I don't think he has to get stud super blue chip recruits, just think about putting a bunch of 2-3 star guys in this offense, with maybe a couple of 4 or 5 star gamebreakers at the right position.

Paydirt- been watching it for 20 years and still get goose bumps every time the T opens up and the team runs through it.

We took one on the chin Friday night. Lost 21-7. All manner of missed assignments on the O-line. Got to figure out how to get 'em to come ready to play. Been a tough weekend, but the best part is we get to start all over again this week. Could be worse, I could have a real job!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! First day in pads and we had some fun! Mid 50s and sunny, and pads popping. I think most of my schedule and plans went out the window as I figure out how to teach this option stuff. It's just a little different than the inside and outside zone.

aj- Our track coach is very good to work with. We get our guys most of the time. Baseball goes til the end of the school year so we won't get those guys anyway. We tried to schedule around it in the past but couldn't do it.
Tom Y.- It was 72 degrees here yesterday. Now that is so far away from normal it's not funny, but it sure was nice!

Unfortunately it's coming a monsoon in Middle Tennessee. At least we don't go in pads til Monday so we can probably get the intro/teaching part done in the gym.

Yes I was there! And, yes, I left early in the 4th quarter when it was still 21-0. Listened to the comeback on the radio and walked into a restaurant just in time to see the game winning field goal.

This isn't funny weird, but still the weirdest I have seen. A few years ago while I was a middle school coach we were helping the varsity on Friday night. We had just gotten a new head coach and staff and it was their second game. Anyway, we go into halftime to do halftime stuff, and HC starts going off. I think he was just trying to show some emotion, but he picks up a helmet and slings it against the wall. Rants a little more, picks up another helmet and tries to throw it against the wall. Not sure how it happened, but he throws the helmet and it hits the star FB in the head. The fallout was not pretty- suspensions, lawsuits, eventual firing. It was pretty ugly.

If someone asks you what you think would help and you don't say anything then you are just as fault as they are. You say you want them to learn to be better coaches, but when they come to you for help you do not offer any. I do not understand what your issue is. If you are a part time volunteer and you don't want to help when they ask then what are you doing there? I think you should get out because you are of no help to them. I find your posture of "I know better than you , but I am not going to give any help when asked" very strange for someone that says he is striving to become a better coach. If you want to be a better coach then COACH! What he said! Seriously, part time or not you're still a coach on the staff and it's your duty to give your opinion when asked about it. Not saying anything just adds to the problem. You've obviously got some observations and ideas and experience that can help, so if they ask you for help then help 'em!

How much of an issue is compatability with dvd recorders these days? A year or two ago there were problems with dvds recorded on one machine not playing on others.

Do you film wide or tight from the end zone? We are finally going to be able to film from the end zone this year and I was wondering whether to go wide or tight, any suggestions?

Do you mean the War of Northern Aggression? That's how they taught it to us here in Tennessee. Too bad your not around here. We're looking for a middle school head coach and possibly a hs varsity assistant. Plus the scenery is a lot better!

I only played one year of high school football. Didn't get a kick out of being a 5'-6", 125 lb. scout team fullback / strong safety. Then when the first two fullbacks went down and they found 2 more people to fill their spots and I stayed 4th on the depth chart I realized how much I was gonna see the field, and dropped football after the season. And actually never thought twice about it, then when I moved back home after college a friend that was coaching the middle school asked me to come out and help for a little bit. That was 8 years ago, and now I'm OC at the high school. Did get in one series in high school tho, got the ball on a dive on 2nd down and got 4 yards. Now I tell everybody I averaged 4 yds. a carry in high school.

Wanted to share something about a college player here at UT. Got in a little trouble but is owning up to it and setting an example for a lot of people that can use it. Props to Gerald Jones, great article here: Read me.

www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/lopez/4468112.htmlRemember them saying during the bowl game he got rid of everybody in the football dept. I do not know the whole story and I'm sure there's some sour grapes here but I would be pissed if somebody came in and cleaned house and then bolted after one year.

Wow, I had pretty much given up on this thread. First, sorry if this duplicates another recent thread, I haven't been on the board much lately. I did a search but didn't come up with much so that's why I started it. The original concept I saw for this came from a clinic a couple of years ago. A coach said he used a point system for certain seniority purposes. He mentioned equipment checkout and uniform numbers. So in order of highest to lowest points the kids got to pick their equipment and numbers, and I was wondering what else it could be used for. I never thought of tying it in to their eligibility. That's a very interesting concept and one I think we may look into more deeply.

Anybody use a point system for your players to determine seniority or participation for the team? Knighter has a good version of it in the articles section, and I've seen one other version at a clinic.
What do you give points for and how do you implement it?
