I am out West here in Arizona. We had to adjust the opponents we'd usually put on our game schedule because of the decisions California is making. They are considering pushing back their Football season to the winter or spring. We typically play 2-4 California teams a year because our city is right on the Arizona-California border.
We have not had any spring practices either, we haven't even met with our kids yet. I am concerned about what impact this will have overall.

Coaches,
What are the characteristics of a good position coach?

Silkyice,
When you let kids come to practice, do you wait until after practice to let them do things with the players? Do you somehow integrate them into a practice during the practice?

I simply meant plan...things you can implement at whatever time to integrate staff bonding and family involvement.
It is way too difficult to ask coaches (especially those with children and who are teachers) to do anything during the season. I have found that doing something during the pre season is a little easier.
I am looking for simple things to do (not something like a retreat, traveling far, etc.).

Coaches,
What are some things you can do to involve the families of your coaches in your program?
What types of events can a head coach schedule at different parts of the year to accomplish family involvement?

Coaches,
I want to ask a couple of different questions in regards to putting together and maintaining a coaching staff:
1) What are the qualities or characteristics of a good coaching staff?
2) What are some ways to build trust or comradery on a coaching staff?

Coaches,
What does a year outline look for you?
What things does a coach need to do, and when do they do them?
I am looking for a complete overview of a complete year from beginning to end.

Coaches,
What criteria do you use to evaluate your players at the end of the season?
What kind of form or template do you use to do this?

Coaches,
I have just been hired as a Physical Education teacher, but I have only taught Social Studies. The obvious difference is the classroom setting: Classroom vs Gymnasium.
However, the school is a small charter schoo that has told me, even for PE, the gym won't be able to be used for PE classes (they eat lunch in the gym).
QUESTIONS:
1. What are the different ways that Physical Education can be taught?
- I know a guy that he actually spends some time in a classroom teaching a sport, THEN will take kids outisde the following days - I know some schools where you are in the gym everyday, all day
2. How can you teach Physical Education without a gym?

I would say what your discipline policy is, what your guidelines are.
I am in my first year with a new team right now.No guidelines, HC doesn't even enforce his own discipline "policies", etc.It is very bad and a sad situation. If you don't have any, think about what you need to address with H.S. kids, make them up from there.

I would say get as many as you can.Maybe not a coach for every position, but whatever you can get.
Last year, I has to coach both O and D lines. It seems if coaches do this, it sacrifices some quality and teaching time since you have to keep your eyes and head in both areas.

I wanted to ask something on here about time management.Tonight, I realized that maybe I don;t know enough about it and when you want to do in different situations.
Exmaple: Our coach as our HC is he wanted the ball back with I think 47 seconds left in the half.I am thinking "just let the clock run out."
I look up at the clock quite a bit for the usual knowing how much time we have and making the rather simple decisions off of that.
Can anybody suggest a book or just give advice on how to better learn and know time management skills?

I wanted to ask if there is a specific "tool" or way on the threads to personally save things or print them in a format.I thought awhile back there used to be a printer icon.
