Alright, here's the question: A school has just hired you as the new HC. What is your outline for the points you intend to make in your first team meeting?

get them excited, lay out the rules, procedures, calendar, and paperwork.
its your first contact with players and parents as a group so your basically selling yourself and your plan.

I would say what your discipline policy is, what your guidelines are.
I am in my first year with a new team right now.No guidelines, HC doesn't even enforce his own discipline "policies", etc.It is very bad and a sad situation. If you don't have any, think about what you need to address with H.S. kids, make them up from there.

Tell them how and why they will win with your plan... It's a chance to brain wash your new kids. Make it perfectly clear that things will be different than they have experienced in the past. Many times leftovers (seniors and juniors that started) will not like and even resist things you are doing different. Let them know that past traditions will be considered but are not engraved in stone.

I like to stress the rules, calendar, expectations, etc.

Set expectations, set expectations, set expectations tell them what to expect and what you expect and as soon as possible do the same thing with parents. Drill those expectations into their head until they understand them and hold them accountable when they are not met. If you don't set your expectations they will set their own for you. I think excitement and X/Os are details but you are in for a long year if you do not set good expectations.

Off-Season (winter/spring) workout policy & schedule. Academic tracking policy, on-campus/off campus rules & behavior expectations (this should include any social media policies). I would also include info for your first parent meeting (no player can play unless you meet with parent); at which meeting you basically lay out all expectations for the kids to the parents, as well as give them the "we don't talk PT speech".
