I would have bet my life and soul my district wouldn’t have been the first school in the state to cancel fall sports. Cancel eventually? Yes Lead the charge for the state of MO? Never Female supe? Our Gov is making the announcement today at 1:30. Mississippi canceled fall sports state wide and it makes me worry about us I havent seen that announcement regarding Mississippi?

Personally I haven’t Either. My A.D. came by practice this morning and told me that. Everyone’s freaked out around here about them canceling fall sports

A few weeks ago John Harbaugh (Ravens) said it wouldn't be humanly possible to practice under the restrictions being proposed at that time.
That may extend to HS football as well.
Not to mention the logistics of hosting games with people in attendance without causing a COVID-19 outbreak.

Well we’re officially 100% face to face instruction with 0% sports. So based on our back-and-forth around a month ago, are you anticipating that the school will close down because so few students will attend without sports and your community will die? What would you make of our community outlook if I told you kids are already moving in with a different parent 10 minutes down the road.

Anyone have a link to the supposed Mississippi cancellations?

Honesty- unless it is on a border, I would say if there are two school systems so close running under different LEAs that is a structural issue. I can understand their actions

My last school had a rival that was 20 min down the road. 2 schools before that we played 2 schools that were within 10-15 min of us. My first school was rivals with a school 10 min from them. All but 1 of those schools was in the smallest 2 classifications in the state. I’de say it happens more often than you think

I dont think it is either common or uncommon. I am saying that when dealing with a viral pandemic, it seems that a situation as described is a structural issue since such an “easy workaround”

One of those schools I could have run to if I wanted for a game. Little Rock has the only schools under one big umbrella that I know of. Im sure the bigger areas near Fayetteville have some of that going on

In the midst of a disease spread by person to person interaction, a patchwork approach to management (where one area shuts down, and people so near can just work around by going to another district) is problematic

For those under the impression you will still be playing,(and I do hope you do get to play) just a word of caution-- My school, an elementary school has one admin and 4 teachers who were working at school are all sick with the virus, and we haven't even opened yet. Were supposed to return Monday, but have instituted a delayed start like much of the south east.
Based on that alone, I think the school would then be shut down for a period of time according to policy. Point being, it is going to be a very bumpy ride.

In New Jersey, we are having a 6 game season beginning October 2. There will be some kind of two week mini-playoffs, what shape that takes we don't yet know. Most conferences rolled out schedules some time in the past week. Some have announced there will be no divisions and no all-league selections.
The NJSIAA allowed teams to begin Phase 1 workouts on July 13; some schools did, others waited a week or two, then there's mine which isn't allowing us any in-person contact with our players until September 14.

To me it makes no sense to have that many districts but seems to be the norm across PA, think there are 600 total districts all doing their own things.

From a business standpoint, that would seem to lose any advantage of economies of scale. However coming from a place that is the exact opposite -the entire parish (county) of about 260,000 is one school district with 57 schools (8 high schools) I see the merit in much smaller districts. In this instance though (health crisis caused by communicable disease) that many different chiefs might be counter productive

Has Ohio add new restrictions? I heard athletes must have a Covid test within 72 hours and quarantine before hand. Any truth to that?

Rumor has it that Nevada is considering reversing course (again, kind of) and allowing parts of the state to play in the fall and the Las Vegas area to be delayed until Spring. Nothing official on that and I'm skeptical it will happen, but it's interesting.

Minnesota has decided to move football to the spring. Season will run mid-March to mid-May. It looks like a six game season with playoffs yet to be determined. I'm thinking we will not have a playoff.

Reading thru the "Return to Play Guidelines" from our state association, they all make sense individually.
But put together as a whole it will be a logistical nightmare to practice much less play a game especially for teams with large numbers or small staffs.

Here in Louisiana the association stated they were “committed to playing” (i think there was even a thread about it). But as you point out the devil is in the details. It is easy to say “we haven’t cancelled football”. Much more difficult to then do the things necessary to try and play it I am growing concerned that since the health protocols will effectively prevent football (and some other sports) from being played- that this will fuel the growing faction of citizens who believe they are simply an attempt at government control and increase the division in the country

Whether an increase in authority is the primary motivation in decision making or not, there clearly has and will be more government following the pandemic.

For all of the bad there there's a good side- it allows me to keep up and catch up with old friends. I've made several significant moves in my life and many of them have too. This is an easy way to stay in tough. Of course, every now and then you do realize that there was a reason that you haven't talked to somebody in 40 years.
