In California, it is by section. We were in the SJS and could not allow Jr. to play JV (although they adopted it this year) and next year we will be playing in the NCS where they do allow Jr. to play JV. I think it is great for a kid who probably wouldn't see the field for Varsity to get reps in a real game situation, rather than just being a scout kid for our Varsity.

We sold Gold Cards through a company that only kept 30% of the profit and we raised a ton of money. I was coaching in a big program and we managed to rake in over $15k in one night. Do you know what company that is? Most of those card companies keep closer to 50%

Something the Daycare/church where we take our 4-year-old did was a date night for Mom and Dad. You had to sign up but from 6-9 on Valentine's day you could drop your kid off and then go have a date. all they asked for was a donation. I think my wife gave them 20 bucks because we were back at 8. There were age requirements and the kids had to be potty trained but they had them in their playing games and singing songs. Not only did they keep him for the 2 hours but when he got home he crashed.
Easy enough to do in a stadium, bring them all in and lock the gate behind them have bags set up for an obstacle course, play tag, dodge ball, etc... have them pre-register so you know how many kids are going to show up. Set a certain number of players per kids (i.e. 1 player for every 6 kids) give the players community service hours.
Coaches grill up some hot dogs and hamburgers, bottles of water, and some bags of chips. what do you think?

Just got back from Las Vegas. Good stuff, lots of Flexbone triple for us that was really beneficial. I will attend the "San Fransico" (actually in Concord) on Friday this weekend. trying to get to a couple of colleges this spring, Cal Poly has a coaching camp. Other than that I will be done with clinics after this Friday.

Just got back from the Las Vegas Glazier Clinic and wanted to know if anyone has every used Blast Athletics for an online email fundraiser. They offer an 82% return on Donations whereas eteams sponsors offers 70% and snapraise offers up to 77% if you meet certain requirements. Just curious if anyone has any experience with them.

Had this happen in a game a few weeks ago. In their defense, it was all of our 2's and 3's. Back up-QB snaps the ball and our LG takes a knee. QB, who has a little bit of temper, yells out "I am the one who takes a knee, dumba$$" loud enough that the stands could hear him. A lot of people chuckled, but I got called in on Monday to be told that I need to have a talk with players about language and how they represent our school when they are on the field. I love admin

I know it is late in the season but I wanted to send this out. we have been using this company for the last 2 years and have been really happy with what we received. They offer Sweatshirts, Sweatpants, and jackets for both men and women. Most everything is customizable with names, positions, and numbers.
They will give you two options as far as rewards, they will offer free gear for a certain number of items sold or they will add $5 to the cost of each item and send you a check. All of the sales are web-based so you don't have to deal with taking orders. They ship all the stuff to you and it comes in bags with the person's name on it so you just hand it out. We took them to our merchandise table and people just picked them up.
The boys really like the gear, and as an incentive, I told them if they all bought the sweatpants and sweatshirts they could wear that on game day instead of a shirt and tie. They are really good about working with you and your logos/artwork to incorporate it into the gear. Here is their website and the guy that I worked with, I am getting nothing out of this I just like the stuff and it is a super easy fundraiser for us to use.

Used these guys last year and was not happy. they guaranteed me 75% but that was only if EVERY player got an email so even though I had way more emails go out then what would have been 75% of my team I only received 70% because not every team member sent out emails. Then it took over a month to get me my check even though the rep had texted me 3 different times saying he was on his way with the check. Then the guy wanted to make excuses and argue with me when I told him to mail the check. I will go back to e-team sponsors even though I won't get as big of a cut they don't BS and nickel and dime me.

I require them in the weight room. A few years ago we had a kid get a pretty bad staph infection from the wrestling mat, ever since then I have required it, no exceptions. At practice, I don't care. I will not let the boys cut their practice jersey's but most of them will roll them up to expose their bellies

I am sure this has probably been covered on this board somewhere before, but I am curious how you teach your high school kids to watch film. Just looking for ways that you communicate and get your kids to see what you need them to see to make your team better on Friday night.
We spend a good deal of time watching film as a team with our coaches pointing out areas to improve, but I want to be able to teach kids to watch film and study film for themselves not only to make our team better but to help get those kids that will move on to the next level better. I thought I watched a lot of film in High School and it was nothing compared to what we did in College

Offensively I do not like them. We are a 70% run team so whenever we get stopped I think I would have run there. Defensively I like that our players can see other skills that are not our 2's and 3's that will only see garbage time during the season. We also tend to be much more athletic than other teams so I can smile and say that we would line up in Cover 1 and bring a heat and they don't complete those passes

Yes, they pay up front. They get the cards and then they can choose to sell them and keep the money or they can sit on them and do nothing. When we first started out we would give the kids 20 cards and they would bring back the money, but we had so many kids that would not make an effort to sell them and come back with all 20 cards so we switched to this and it has been the best decision. I have had a few parents complain, but I will also allow kids to do payments because they know they are getting these cards in May they start making payments in January. I have had parents tell me that they are basically making a $200 donation to the program and I will tell them that is their choice because they are not making their son go out and sell the cards. If we required our kids to pay $200 up front we'd have a VERY lonely locker room. That is why I took payments. I would also let the kids by 3 cards and go sell them and then come back and buy 3 more etc... as long as they were bought before we hand out pads they were good. smart kids buy them right away so they can sell to the teachers before school was out

We do 3 fundraisers a year. The first is our discount card "Gold Cards" we tell the players that they have to buy them to be issued equipment. Each player is required to buy 20 cards at $10 each = $200 they can then go out and sell them and get their money back or do nothing and they basically donated $200 to the program. Do the kids have to pay the $200 up front? Yes, they pay up front. They get the cards and then they can choose to sell them and keep the money or they can sit on them and do nothing. We use our lift-a-thon, this is strictly donations go out and ask people for money to sponsor you. We tie the lift-a-thon to their jersey number. To pick a number they have to raise a minimum of $100 if they don't raise $100 they get what is left. If they want a single digit they have to raise $200. However, if Johnny Superstar raises $200 and wants #2 and Bobby Benchwarmer raise $205 and wants #2 Bobby gets it. This has helped out our fundraising and participation tremendously.

Lastly, during the season, we will do E-Team Sponsor which is an email fundraiser. We tell the boys to email all the people that live out of state so they are not hitting up all the same people all the time we are a relatively small community so we do not want to burn out our audience.
Other odds and ends is we host a scrimmage every year and charge gate and run concessions. We also run concessions during our home games. We have partnered with a club on campus to be the workers and they get $250 for the JV game and $250 for the Varsity game. It is a drop in the bucket compared to what we make on a Friday Home game.
We have consistently raised between $40 and 45,000 a year

As a new head coach the first thing I will tell you is document everything. Meetings you have and what was discussed, player attendance at off season, pre-season, fundraising etc. You can not have too much documentation. Save everything by year it is much easier to find that way. Set up folders on your computer for each year and add everything that happens into it. If you have a scanner it makes things much easier. Don't be afraid to have people who are smarter than you on your staff. But give them credit when it is due.
When the team succeeds, they did it. When the team fails, You Failed.
