Hey Tiger
Never been there as to a total rebuild... I coached for many year prior... Slowing down a bit now but still a coach for a 7th and 8th grade local team and I scout for the H/S... My 2 cents worth , kids today need ... Don't always understand what they need but they do... Guess it was the same when I was this age also... I just have a hard time reaching back that far... FUN and WORTH is where I would start with... Theres alot of way's to make thing's fun... Way back when, we would do some drill's in a mud puddle that we kept a water hose on... We called it ,PIG FOR THE DAY !!! ... Just getting the title of BOSS HOG was reward enough... Worth, will that a little harder ... I mostly coached older kids... We took them to a ward of a children hospital (which was all set up by many )... Our players miggled and became friends with them and dedicated their season on their behalf... When we did do this it did seemed when times got hard on them they would reach down a bit to get thru the hard times because of the element of worth... Not sure if this helps but anyway GOD'S PEACE

Got one for ya but it's not football but baseball a longggg time ago... A very small boy name Eric was in right field ... It was late in the game and we are on top by a bunch... He didn't always play outfield he was are second basemen at times . We just wanted to keep him in the game longer... Any way we as coaches made an error here by not checking are personel in the field. A ball was hit to his field but to are dismay he had his back turned from the play... We all were yelling for him to turn and make the catch... Well he turned , but no way was he going to make the catch... Reason being , he had his glove tucked under his arm and no way was he going to release his 2 beautiful bouquet of dandelions... Make up of our team was 1/2 orphans which he was... found out later since it was the last inning that he picked them for a special some-one in the stands... It was the first time that anyone like this came to one of his games...

The Professor--- Cooperative Style of Communication I took the course after a long lay-off from coaching... It helped me, but I here it's not for everyone which is cool... I also have a hard time with their Game Approach of Coaching... Just not me ...

Analytical, with a touch of Amiable, like not wanting to be the center of attention... Answering this question was enlighting... Brought me down a few peg's... It showed me thing's that I was doing, that I really didn't mean to be doing...

...10 year old leather helmet's and the smell ...high top shoes, with Sharpen cleats ...after countless hours of practicing a cross body block and then doing it in a game for the key block to break a back free ...picking stickers off ya after practice ( was surpose to make us tough) Sticker Stadium we called are practice field, really 2 sandlot fields seperated by a cinder ally, making a tackle of a back, in the cinder's got ya a that a boy ...grade school bon-fire and tearing apart a dummie made up to resemble your opponent's best player and tossing it into the fire, all the while several nun's and priest are dancing around the fire with ya ...the aroma of are coaches mid grade cigar's ...attending Mass and 2 hour's later getting a preaching too, as to how we should go out there and tear them apart limb by limb, within ear shot of are Pastor or Priest who's at the game so we would get his blessing before the beginning of the contest ...getting screamed at by your coaches and crowd in the stands after you just closed-line a back trying to make the corner, making contact with a extended straight arm just under his chin and lifting him off the ground. OH!! those shriek screams were mostly like Good Tackle, Good Hit, Just Like We Practiced That A Boy
HIGH SCHOOL ... intro to the use of the proper leg whip ...getting to the qb and putting a hat on him was one of the key elements of the game ...taping up you forearm's to look like cast, when you weren't hurt at all ...spitting on your opponent's down hand ... those little love pinches at the bottom of a pile ...doing anything to get into a game as an under classman even if it was to be the guy that would be on all four's during a field goal try or PAT so the other guy would step on your back to block the kick( soon there after rule 300-502 FBR022 OF THE FOOTBALL RULE COMMITTEE INTERVENED) sorry really don't have a qlue of what # the rule is ...can't recall water break's but after practice one would scuffle with other at differant water valves that were placed several inches below ground level and suck on the fitting and sometimes you would get water. some would have water slowly comming out of them on there own. knowing which valve to go to was important knowleadge.the practice field was far from the school so the kids in the neighborhood would be there playing on the dummies waiting for the end of practice with kool-aid and to carry your pads in. not every player had a kid,it was mostly up to the kid. it was a business deal. mostly a kid would have 4 to 6 players he would be of service. you would have a wagon tied to your bike for the gear and for an extra charge you would take a player back on your handle bars. some times a coach NO CHARGE that got u into the game for free that week as the water boy also taking the dummies to the shack for a week got ya in. but don't frett we kids had other way's of getting in ...the use of one of the guys dads bolt cutter's on a chain link fence worked well. they did everything to mend it but we had all week to work at this little set-back.later they posted a female cop there. no match for 7 to 10 little rag muffins with dinosaur tears ...slidding under a gate an hour early and hide. there were all kinds of differant spots but my fav was just in a hedge( not sure why they were in there but there was alot of them with little red berries on them and thick) close to one of the several gates. after a rush of people would inter you would just sneak out and walk in with another dad that just paid to get his family in, giving him a nice smile and a thank you and take off , you were in. ...to touch on this a bit more this is a true story. had a kid name richie that we tolerated but anyway he came to are aid one game. they posted 2 cops at the hole in the fence this game one a guy cop. darn a big game to maybe that's why the extra cop. we found out that this richie had to go with his parents somewhere that night and wouldn't have a chance to go to the game anyway so we came up with this. to us this was a first timer but i guess it's been around for awhile Gate Crashing.we had him go in, get the cop's attention which involved a chase by him towards the other cop at the other gate but instead we had him make a sharp left behind the stands to a door that we knew would be open from the school to the field. get in the school which we all new like the back of are hand and get to the Little Gym (girl's gym ) which we snuck into, from a window every day , sneaking out no problem. it worked just fine, around 15 kids bolted thru and mixed in with the large crowd. found out later that the lady cop was letting kids in, that guy cop was only there for the beginning of the game. she was a nice gal. the window was another way into a game but not always the hallway.that was a risk to be caught by one of the janitor. we knew most of them just not all ...early on sat. morning claiming your spot under the bleachers looking for lost coin's and once in awhile a bill of 1,5,or more but can't remember anything more than a 5.this is where being from a large family helped in case any kid wanted to claim your spot you had brother's to back you up. really didn't have too much, just one time ...watching the game from the attic window thru a telescope. mom really had the clamp down on me hard cause i was sick and no game. even had dad take away the thick extension cord that i had tied around the stink stack pipe that i used to scale down the side of the house with ...making football's out of coke throw away glasses. if you never heard of this it's an art. it's been a long time but there a way to jam these paper/plastic coated glasses together to form somthing that looked like a minnie football . we would then proceed to have a game vs. the other kids from the rival school where more blood was spilled than during the real game. had alot of dads watching us and i'm sure a few bets were placed

I took a coaching coarse because I was thinking of coaching in the upper level's but most of the openings where for girl sport's. I thought what the heck it's a way to get in. After some research I decided just to stay where I'm at. There was so much in that coarse about covering one's a$$ that it scared me silly. I understand for some of you, that you think a coaching coarse is a bother. Just have to say it help myself some. Just wondering if these coaches were young in their career's and if coaching opposite sex was a 1st.

Sir Some time back at a job that required consent repetative hand and arm motion, I was instucted to wear these bands thing below the elbow. It did seem to help some . It seemed like it gave more strength to the hand's with less stress to the elbow. I'm not sure if this holds any relevance just a differant view point that I thought you were seeking.

When I was watching a Pro game, it was a Steelers against who ever they beat that week, they always seemed to keep a back in. It seemed to me that after a certain amount of time on their pass plays that they would release or the blocking broke down that they would throw a screen if they didn't get the pass down field. Was I just seeing things or can somthing like this be taught. They sure threw alot of screens like maybe 10.

Good points everywhere.
In the old days we would put a nylon around the ball to do the gauntlet. If you fumbled the week before, you had to carry a f-ball around the hall's for a week of school.
I'm a youth coach so I try to bring a little bit of fun into are practices and this is one place that I do this but in the same breath we take it seriously. The gaultlet is done by the parents that get a free shot at their kids while they at 1/2 speed run a circuit . The circuit would be layed with obstacles, such as ladder ropes, and dummies. ( By the way this was done years ago in a differant state that I now live. The only parent involvement I receive now is WHAT TIME IS PRACTICE OVER,SO I KNOW WHAT TIME TO LEAVE WAL-MART) but parents would dress out for this and had fun themselves . They bring cow bells and whisiles and water gun's ect. At differant point's the player would have to break thru a double team of dads holding dummies and a dad would have a carpet taged with a rope and when he came thru he tug on the rope a bit just to send him off balanced . Two sets of mom's would be swinging a jump rope while in-between that brother and sisters would be spraying their water gun's . While all this was going on we would be slaping at the ball. Thing was all players ran the coarse, had FUN !! which is needed at times and brought involvement. Heck we even had a Mom run it once...
