My team starts practice two weeks from today and I can't wait. I'm driving my wife nuts, I mean she is to the point where she gets ticked if I'm watching football on TV when she walks into the room. Who else is getting that itch that just won't go away?

I have the itch. Always. I have to wait until mid-August to get started, though.

If you got the itch go to the local hs and see ifyou can help out with open gyms and that sort of thing.

First equipment handout is this weekend. Yep, I'm even jazzed for equipment handout. Now that's sick.

I had a meeting with my coaching staff last night. More than half of them were there which was about what I was expecting. We had about an hour talking about rules, expectations, and policies. Then we spent about two good hours talking Xs and Os. It was an awesome night and it just made the itch that much worse. I don't think they make an ointment strong enough for it. Luckily the hs is having a youth camp next week that I'm working and then we start practice.

Every coach gets the itch around this time of the year.

We also start August 3 and I can't wait. It's been a busy & productive off-season. I went to the Glazier clinic in March, Dave Cisar's clinic in April, and Darin Slack's QB camp a couple weeks ago. Plus, I spent about an hour picking the brain of Coach Logan, head coach at Corona Centennial (defending CA State Champs - they beat De La Salle in the championship game last year).
We met with our new parents last night. Yeah, I'm pumped up. Let's get this party started!!!!

Itch isn't strong enough. Fever might be more like it. We start on the 27th and the day can't come fast enough. Especially with looking at a horrible year in the rear view mirror. I can't wait to right those wrongs.

I think I too have progressed to the point of fever. I'm working our local high school youth camp this week and we are getting started Monday. Our final sign up is Saturday so by then I'll know what I got. If most of the kids come back this year we are going to have a real nice squad. We are putting in a brand new offense and defense that I think the kids are going to love because they are different from anything they have ever done and the D in super agressive. I just hope I'm ready to play with the big dogs.

Drew up some preliminary depth charts today But a bunch of kids on the list that I have no idea who they are or if they can play etc Man oh man 1 of my 3 teams REALLY needs some help and only 3-4 new kids on that one. Probably weakest team I will ever have fielded in 17 seasons. OTOH one team is very deep and looks pretty good The other one will have 1/2 new kids with an OK base to work from Today on paper they look like: 3-7 to 6-4 9-2 to 11-0 6-4 to 9-2 Who knows, everyone's undefeated now

I think you're being just a little modest. Yeah, I know that streak doesn't include last season and that your weak team was pretty weak last year, but I think you'll probably do a little better than you're saying. Regardless, I'm quite certain that your kids will learn good fundamentals, discipline, and a love for the game, which are all more important goals than just winning anyway. I wish you the best of luck on another successful season.

Our Midget team is going to be very physical, if they stay healthy I see a very good season for them. Our incoming kids for freshmen football, from what I've seen, are going to be very good also. I'm very excited to get going with both teams. Our frosh schedule might be one of the toughest in the state though, we've redone schedules and its nothing short of brutal, we play five powerhouse programs, one of which has won the last three 5A state titles in a row. There's only one team on our schedule that I'd say is a pushover, everybody else is tough.

Coach Doug,
With your move to PW and losing so many kids, I guess I have no reason to whine compared to you. Best of luck as well.
Would love to have a season where every kid came back from all 3 teams. That's one we have a shot at maybe. With our new character dev program and other stuff in the works looks attainable as long as we dont get blown out very often with the 1 team. We only have 1 "striped" player there and the rest arent anywhere remotely close to the striper weight.

I finished coaching an adult indoor football team a few weeks ago and I have been ready to get the Fall season going since our last game ended. My wife told me that maybe I need to look into coaching another adult team in the Fall, but after the season I had with the "grown men" I need to coach youth football to cleanse my soul!

Well tomorrow is finally the first day of practice. In a little over 21 hours we will be on the field getting ready for some football. This week is going to be a huge challenge as my numbers as of right now are way down, we have a parent meeting cutting practice time tomorrow, equipment handouts in place of practice Wednesday, and pictures cutting into practice time on Thursday. Oh well I'm just glad that I will finally get to scratch the itch.

Camp opens this Sunday, Itch is a big understatement at this point!
Working with LB this season and excited about it! My goal is to have the most athletic players on the field come Sunday Sept 13th. I have some new ideas that I hope will ensure this too!
How is it going for you who have opened Camp already?

No doubt! All the surrounding leagues have started practice either last week or this week. We're just now getting into our league run speed agility camp. Team practices start next week! So I'm feeling left behind kinda. Went to the local high school to see the intersquad scrimmage, man! 5 more days!

Well my itch is gone and now it is just time to play. We had our first game yesterday and won 38-7. The other team could not stop us and only scored because of some home cooking from the zebras. Their field was a joke and the organazation wasn't much better. This is the first year in the league for them and at the rate things are going it will be the last. The field we played on was an old soccer field that was 90 yards long with 5 yard end zones. The field had no hashes so they just kind of guessed to spot the ball and one end had a broken goal post that had no uprights. The refs were wearing stripped shirts and black jean shorts or jogging pants. One official was wearing a khaki golf hat. I was honestly embarassed for the other team having to use that field and those officials at home.
