We got pounded in the state finals. The team we lost to is top 10 nationally, suffice it to say we are not.

5 or 6 years ago we called press man coverage and our guy pressed the hell out of their slot receiver, our guy was further behind their side of the LOS than their OL was.
Best thing was a week or two later the same thing happened in an SEC game. Our DB coach came to meetings with a picture of it and let us all know he was just coaching big time college techniques and to quit giving him crap.

State finals next Saturday. Wish we still played into Thanksgiving week but our state changed the calendar a few years ago to finish before Thanksgiving.

2 year starter on a below average team. The best of bad options.
These were the first two years as HC for my HC, he had a contender the year after I graduated and has had a HOF type of career since. I tell people that I played on his last bad team.

Winning the rematch is better than winning the first game.

My son came up to me in the middle of our 7th game laughing and said "Billy just learned that you're my dad." I take it that means I must be coaching him fairly, also that Billy is pretty oblivious, or doesn't know my name.

Everyone on this thread who hasn't heard it where they coach needs to start using it immediately and refuse to give their other coaches any context.
I've heard it in NV but not too often.

We're a Stack Defense and our first opponent of the year did this. Pulled opposite side tackles on a QB Read, Bash type of play. Definitely was intentional.

Two weeks ago a DB from the other team turned to our sideline after a pass break up and flipped us a double bird. Not that it necessarily relates to this thread and I'm not blaming his coaches, but Id never seen that before.

I'm a grumpy old man so I'm not a huge fan of music at practice but it might help pick the energy up a little bit.

Mine is a backup LB that was pressed into action due to an injury the day before the game last week. A little sketchy early but he hung in there and played solid for a backup guy. Not sure who was more nervous Thursday night between the two of us.
Luckily the Defensive playcaller is keenly aware of his athletic limitations amd tried to protect him.

Some circular logic here in defining "elite". Just call Kelly a douche if you think he's a douche, doubt many here will argue with you on that.

We are 2 games in. We are 0-2 so screw us, we brought this on ourselves, but the HC has already had one parent meeting about playing time (backup QB) and has another this week that I'm guessing will be about playcalling. HC is a HOF lock when he retires. Parents do what parents do.

We put ours up in hudl. It's a combination of PowerPoint notes, clips, and my hand drawn pictures of plays and run fits.

When the college guy messes up its because he's not being coached correctly. When my guy messes up, well we've repped it a 1,000 times but he just won't listen

We went to a tournament in the spring, one of the rules was that your TE couldn't line up "inside the tackle box". Watched one coach lose his crap on the ref because the other teams off-the-line H back type guy was right next to the ball but in the backfield. He kept screaming at the ref that it was illegal because the guy was a TE. Best part was the ref was a real d!ck back to him explaining the difference between the backfield and the LOS and what "tight end" means. Something to the effect of "pick up a rulebook, learn what 'end' means and then let's talk.'" I would side with the coach losing his crap to be honest. That sounds like a semantic difference, and a fairly foolish one at that given the fact that is supposedly an activity related to the sport played from September-December. Another anecdote related to what I said earlier (and appropriate because someone mentioned De LaSalle. Had the pleasure of organizing a "get together" (as opposed to a competitive tournament) several years ago. One of the teams 3 teams their also ran the Split Back Veer...to the tune of about 400 wins (at that time. It's currently 600 for the coach). He came out and on the first play was 4 wide one back. I politely walked up to him and said "Coach...would you do that on 1st and 10", and he kind of grinned and said "Well, I didn't want to waste everyone's time here. You know how we play coach ". I responded "Yes Sir, so lets do this. Lets run these first 5 plays like it is 1st and 10. Go on and run a pass play you would do on 1st and 10, I will call a coverage I would on 1st and 10, then we will do 2nd/3rd and mediums and then we can do 3rd and longs and 2 minute. Lets get better for September" Coach curtis was beaming and said " That's a great Idea" And so the 3 teams proceeded to work to get better for September. As a guy trying to get ready for the fall, as I am, why would you care where the opposing team lines up its players? How big a difference in your defense is there between a RB standing next to the QB in gun and a RB taking 2 steps forward from that same width? That's basically where this kid was aligned that caused the crap-losing.

We went to one the other night. The other team got to the 5 yard line and got into empty. We are a 3-3 team and play Cover 0 from the 5 yard line so we had all 3 LBs take a knee. We held them for a couple downs but eventually they scored after the QB held the ball for 4 Mississippi's against our 6 man rush and we lost. I wear it as a badge of honor haha.

I've come around on the tournament stuff. I still think they're super exaggerated but it's good to see formations, motions, etc. for us defensively. I still much prefer a scripted scrimmage to "tournament style" but I don't despise them as much as I used to.

We run a 3 man front if this changes things since we have no 3 tech to set.
But we don't make a run strength call against any formation. We do key an off the line Y/H and fit our backers and DBs off his movement.

We're about 10-10.5 hours per week in the summer over 4 days. It's a pretty good balance I think. Unfortunately two of those days start at 5:30am which sucks for me but the kids don't seem to mind it too much. I know the huge majority do like being done by about 8:15am on Thursday and not back until 2:30pm on Monday. What on God's green Earth is the rationale for starting ANY HS activity at 5:30 am?! We sometimes go early to avoid the heat because we live in the desert. But I can't say it's why we go early 2 days a week in the summer when we go in the afternoon on 2 other days.

I feel like in the NFL when there are injuries you frequently see teams go get veterans that have experience playing for the coordinator at previous stops.

Our state moved the championship to the weekend before Thanksgiving, which sucks. Practicing on Thanksgiving used to mean you were in the final 4 so it was a really cool experience for a team to be out there Thanksgiving morning.

My favorite one was 7 or 8 years ago. Our rival school hadn't come close to beating us in over 5 years but they beat us at a summer 7 on 7 tournament. A bunch of their kids were bragging about it and telling our guys all summer/fall that we had no chance in the fall because one of our corners was "suspect".
So in the fall we are up something like 42-0 going into half and as we walk to the locker room one of our kids tells one of theirs "don't feel bad, 7 on 7 season is only a few months away."

Not necessarily apples to apples, but I played on a freshman team with 70+ kids. On far away road trips where we could only get one bus we had a travel team, so 20ish kids got left behind. By the time that class was seniors there were multiple starters that hadn't made the travel team as freshman.

Bruuuhhh the headsets with no one up top? Wtf? That is so ducking stupid. I’ve seen that at two different spots. Always the “cool” guy. I coached with a guy on JV who would wear one with the cord unplugged just so he would look like he had one. But he was 100% screwing around because it was JV and we all thought it was funny.
