Interestingly, Brian Kight talked about this in one of his talks...He said both are important but people don't focus on culture enough
My Motto (which I stole from the US Army leadership manual) is Be, Know, Do
IMO, the BE would be the culture part, the Know would be the scheme part, and the Do would be the execution part which would also include conditioning. You can't be great w/o all 3...

Geez i was just thinking about this on the way home from the Newport clinic today....I like to hand write my notes but like you say they are all over the frickin place..If a student had my note organization plan I probably would call his parents...anyway I am thinking about scanning all of them with an app from my phone and putting them in google docs and somehow organizing them from there...this is nit something I am looking forward to I have (much to my wifes chagrin) tubs of notes and I threw away a bunch of stuff too

Heard a lot of good things about Pat Fox..What, in your opinion, makes him so great Fox brings a level of energy and honesty to solid coaching philosophies that is pretty rare and he is funny. what do you mean by honesty?

I love Twitter. It has revolutionized the way I interact with coaches and guys that breakdown film/write for a living. I just wish you could "file" your Tweets into a certain category and others could pick which category of tweets show up in their timeline. I like following coaches, but I DGAF how their girls basketball team did in their game, when their ACT prep class is or how awesome their wife is for running a 5K. I do however understand the need to promote things, spread propaganda, etc. I just wish their was a way to filter who gets it and what we see on our timelines. right ..... I keep separate Twitter accounts for that reason....I won't follow someone that posts a lot like you write above

using that argument, I would pretty much say that participating for any football team is non consequential except maybe for the athlete involved....OH and the coach that wants to boost his program and his ego as well.

You guys in the Detroit area, EXTREMELY JEALOUS that Don Brown AND Gregg Williams will be in attendance! Someone please take good notes and pass them along! Also, Coach Holmes from Georgia is awesome! I had the pleasure of having a chalk war with him in Indianapolis...ok, not really pleasure, more like having to beat your head against the wall repeatedly! Made me a better ball coach! S/O to glazierprez and his staff for putting together that clinic! Awesome! Don Brown: OPPORTUNITYISNOWHERE

We do that and I say why not..They are committing to a place just like any other athlete...They will put in basically the same work but for fewer accolades....Also most of the kids "signing" at D2 schools and lower FCS schools are basically getting $5000 off the ridiculous sticker price of admission and it would actually be cheaper to walk on to a state school but yet....they "sign" ...The ones that make me sick are the kids that "sign" and you know they will never make it past year 1.

Many of you had said that "networking" was the best part of the AFCA. I have been at least 5x and have never felt that. I have seen and perhaps exchanged words w/ some "big name" guys but would hardly call that networking. I used to mostly go to connect w friends I haven't seen in a while....I would like to hear stories on how you went to the convention, met someone, and have created a valuable network....

I know they are speaking a lot of places but if you could get a coach from Nebraska to one of the Chicago clinics that would be awesome. I am excited to see what they are going to do in the future as they put up a lot of numbers on offense this year. You're in luck, Coach! Nebraska's o-line coach, Greg Austin, is speaking in Chicago on Friday, Feb 8. I know you mentioned offense, but their d-line coach, Mike Dawson, is speaking in Chicago on Friday & Saturday, March 1 & 2. Hope you'll join us for both. Ha!! 1. Handouts that follow your presentation 2. Contact info readily available 3. Video that supports your topic 4. Opportunities for questions from audience 5. Less is more very good^^ for god's sake ......no one cares about your stats... unless you are talking to little league coaches everyone knows what the A gap is and what a 5 technique is. Most don't care listening about your philosophy for more than a minute or two unless that is the purpose of the clinic. if you are showing film please make sure it is of good quality and go slow..please make sure to preview the film. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a clinic the the presenter seems surprised what's on there and then goes ahead and blames a flunky

Also I will add that sometimes really good assistants or other people not in a head coach position are phenomenal. More scheme specific sometimes. And HCs have a lot on their plate and sometimes aren't as enthused. Some non-HC guys (some on here) that are phenomenal speakers - Jerry Gordon, Broad Run. The guy wrote the book on the under defense. Phenomenal coach. Casey Miller, Cottonwood (that is a project of a program though so you probably aren't interested in the W/L program) John Cupps, No idea what school he is at now. Was the DC at LaSalle in Ohio and then Massillon. Chris Fore - In admin now but very good speaker Chris Vasseur - Bay Area DC, Gary Patterson disciple Will Hewlwtt - Aptos Assistant, good speaker with good experince Brett Dudley - young, energetic, personable. Great assistant. Never seen him speak but he does good things Cody Gardner - Park City Utah. personable, entertaining, intelligent. I really want to meet & have a clinic with Coach John Cupps sometime. Dude wouldn’t have to pay for a drink afterwards as I’m pretty sure he is the most legendary poster ever on Huey! Wouldn’t mind seeing a presentation or meeting with Coach Gordon as well! LOL we both spoke at the cottonwood clinic last year in Salt Lake City..it was a blast!!

I'll "second" this statement. I always prefer the High school coach, over the college coach, and usually the guy from a "middle" of the road school, not these year in, year out Maxpreps top 25 teams that always have the best players in the area. I think it would be great if Glazier, would try to get, two out of the area high school coaches (if the clinic is out West, get a guy from the midwest or back east and vice versa) at each clinic. This times a million. The college drills and fundies are phenomenal. But the High School schematic stuff is much more helpful. And yes there are way too many "powerhouse" speakers. The programs with multiple high level d1 kids and players coming out of their ears. I was watching a state powerhouse DL coach speak once in Vegas. He was talking about how each 4 DL positions had completely different roles, techniques, and responsibilities. So a backup nose wouldn't be able to slide in at DT, one DE couldn't go to the other, etc. I promptly walked out to find something else. So yes instead of the state champ powerhouse programs, the consistently above average playoff teams tend to give better and more applicable coaching bits for us "commoners" absolutely, I once listed to a guru talk..Asked who blocks the fslb, the coach said no one we just out run him...the qb is now a starter at one of the top 10 colleges..walked out

i am looking into Iowa st..Katy Tx and a couple of other things i saw on X and O labs We've been slowly, awkwardly stumbling towards something like ISU's dime package... Trying to find a subtle way to send some articles about it to the HC. I have been studying it somewhat...the problem, for me so far, is I can understand it vs 10pp zone read what happens when you start adding in a TE and a slot and what happens w/ same side counter. the teams that run east/west zone read , at least around here, stink...the Oline are soft and don't know how to zone block....on the other hand the teams that run iso, uc triple and power, kick our ass. we need more weight room and less dime
