I'm not even sure who's arguing with who anymore. Maybe it's time to get back to talking about conditioning at small schools. I think all small schools should continue to do navy seal style workouts based around making kids tough and we will continue to take a FTC approach. I like to win. Mega eye roll. Yes, because those are the only two options.

Coach, please, do you mind to share more about the speed approach, just like you did with the weight room work? Sure. Since 2015 I've used Dale Baskett's programming for speed days (He updated it again around 2018). If you have 4 sessions / week in the summer, two can be used for Dale and if you have 6 weeks you'd complete his program (Sessions 1 and 2 in week 1, and so on). Now I also use some FTC methods, obviously, and where Dale didn't time I time 2-3 sprints at the end of the workout. Intent, growth #'s, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation (wristbands for growth, effort, or one of those WOW performances). Time their 20y on speed day 1 and their fly10 on speed day 2.Β The other two days I would do a progressive COD/Agility program day and a Curved Sprints day. You can even time 2-3 sprints on those days. COD/Agility could be a zig-zag run and the goal is to have both directions within .01 of each other (balance) and you can do static 10 vs your backwards fly 10 (20y) on a curved day. I have a COD/agility program I tweak all the time. I'm currently using it on myself and my wife collecting a lot of data but also on private clients and just finished up with a softball team.Β You donβt see any issues with doing Baskettβs sessions on consecutive days? We are going to start using his stuff thatβs why Iβm asking. He makes it sound like you need a day off between sessions. Granted the first few are no more taxing than the Holler stuff we use to warm up everyday. If we can do it on consecutive days that is pretty good news for us.

I typically did COD/A on Monday, and Dale on Tues/Thur. These days I would do Dale Mon, Curved Tues, COD/A on Thur. 4 days / week Mon Dale, Tues Curved, Wed Dale, Thur COD/A. I typically leave COD/A for a Thur bc it takes more out of the players using so much visual-cog stimuli.

Curious why YOU decided to become a HS teacher-football coach? only reason I got a degree was to coach football. And the reason I got my degree in history. I never ever considered this a crusade to save kids. I am not in this with some delusion that kids eat nuts and kale or some of this being some military boot camp.Football is more important to me than the kids. By a long shot. And I donβt believe for one that kids buy my bs. @coachpithy - So you became a teacher-coach because you wanted to stay in football with no other goals beyond that, i.e. not what you could do for kids that your teachers-coaches did for you? If so - that explains a lot about your posts on here.

I got my a$$ EATEN in front of my friends. Our RT looks at me and says "He didn't mention that you're drinking a beer, you just got grounded over the shoes" I was 17. My dudes had to leave and my dad took the plug to the PS1 to his gun safe. It was like 3pm on a random school day in the spring.

On the Friday a week before going back to school I quit my job and went out to celebrate. Got home at 4 AM (In 1972 there were a lot of places that weren't fanatical about either the drinking age or closing time). Sometimes the factory had guys come in on Saturday to do cleanup work and I got a call at 6 AM to go in at 7. My parents made me go. I wish they'd just kicked my a$$ instead.

My son went to college and it was among the most difficult things I've ever gone through. Due to covid, he was sent home 6 months later. Having him back home was one of the most difficult things I've ever gone through.
As to conditioning - if my linemen group had to do 10 110's after practice every day they would stop playing football. Some would probably quit if it was one day a week. I can't say I'd blame them if they did.

My first years as head coach we did 10 or 16 100's or 110's. Can't remember exactly. We did end up at 10 100's. I then ended up at four 250's. A 250 is start at one goalpost and go around the other and head back. I gradually got away from all that.
At some point I read on here about doing 20 40's. One every 30 seconds and every 5th one, take an extra 30 seconds. Really like that.
We ended up at Mon 20 40's Tue 15 30's Wed 10 20's.
During the summer we do zero conditioning until after July 4 week. We ramp up from 10 20's to 20 40's over the course of three to four weeks. We would also add in 1 to 2 250's. The 20's, 30's, 40's are untimed as far as speed goes. You just do one every 30 seconds. The 250's usually have one timed.
My son now coaches with me and went through all that. His advice and my reading of the "feed the cats" mentality has changed me to this during the season:
Mon 15 30's Tue nothing Wed 1 250
We seemed to be just as in shape as ever and fresh. His take on the 40's were they are a little long, but 20's are short. 30's seem to be the sweet spot. While I am not a big proponent of distances over 40, I do feel that some longer distances can be good because football is not 100% anaerobic.
