Our school board approved a $500 bonus last night for all employees "due to the additional stress caused by COVID" this school year. I'm not going to lie...I'll still take the money, of course, but this has actually been one of my easiest school years ever.

Our district is doing the same although they haven't figured out how much we'll get. There's dissension within the community about us getting the bonus which is gumming up the works.

Anybody ever stay in or get out due coaching your own kid on the team? My dad retired as a beisbol guy when my brother got to varsity. Still did private instruction but day-to-day retired.

I have been asked to do private lessons for qb and for discus when I retire-----just seems creepy to me. I can't do that.
I may go help out a local small town school when I get to my retirement spot in the country though.

Of course there's dissension. I've never hated my classroom job as much as I have this year between having half of my classes quarantined at all times making planning really tough, parents all over everything we do, and administration constantly changing rules and policies (some to comply with the state, and some just because).

We have a retired teacher/exceptional throws coach that "consults" for shot and disc in the area. He's damn good but he ruffles a lot of feathers when he works with kids outside of their track program. He churns out all-state throwers in every classification every year but has managed to p-ss off most of the throws coaches in the area.
I s'pose his services wouldn't be utilized if those throws coaches were doing a better job but he's still strongly disliked within the high school track and field community. I know he's been offered track jobs at most of the schools around here but he'd rather do what he's doing.

I know the feeling. Even with my record in throws,, we still get parent's sucked into that world. If I consulted, it would be as a cheap/volunteer guy with one school as THE throw coach--no teaching, for that very reason

The guy doesn't charge for the consultations/practices which is the reason why I'll play Devil's Advocate for him. He was working with one of my throwers a few years back and it p-ssed me off. But I decided to go watch a few of his practices with our thrower and learn a few things. I got some free clinics from a great coach, applied what I learned with our throwers and didn't have an issue again.
