Millions of kids have played football for a 100 years with the vast majority having no issue. Creating legislation to dictate on what activities is crazy in my mind. The awareness and changes in our instruction due to the concussion concerns in my mind are a great thing. I know I'm a better and safer instructor of the game now then I was 10 years ago due to this. With regards to youth football I have never been a huge proponent of it, however, my 9 year old played this year. He wanted to, I felt the league he was in did a good job of protecting and instructing kids and the overall contact level and head to head contact was nearly non existent. I may feel differently in a year or two but his first experience with the game was a positive one in which I was never worried about his safety or any other kids safety it was a long way from the stuff you see on TV. I agree with this 100%. Of course I am biased since I coach youth besides high school. What scares me is you have plenty of bad coaches out there. This will be what ends youth football I think. At both the high school and youth level we are very carful with what we do at the high school level we never go live. At the youth level I only have to live sessions both in the preseason to get the kids adjusted to full contact. Any other time we are all thud. We work hard on the heads up stuff along with the hawk tackling. We have stayed healthy and been very successful at both levels. The problem I have with youth football is we have lots of meat heads trying to relive their glory years through their kids. Not everyone is doing what I do, and many other high quality youth coaches do. I once heard a coach from another team of 9 year olds that we were killing bitch at the head coach that they needed to start hitting and hit all the time in practice. I got pissed and told him good luck with that we never hit and we are killing you. I have seen this game save some kids from going down the wrong path at an early age, and I would hate to see it go.

I am like many here that doesn't get much from the big time guys. My school has 400 kids and maybe 40 kids are on the team. A few years ago I did sit in on a talk that the DB coach from the Arizona Cardinals gave. He was great because he was honest. He was going on about how we do this and drill that blah blah blah. He follows it up with but if you have Patrick Peterson you let him do what he wants so you don't screw him up.

My head coach takes old footballs paint them green (school color) and the art teacher helps out by putting a design and writing whatever he wants on them. They end up looking real good.

First I have a question. Why didn't you need to fundraise for Pop Warner? You can not beat www.charitymania.com/ Biggest return I have ever seen for a fundraiser and a easy sell.

Hi everyone. I just recently stumbled onto this site and I am loving it. I have coached Pop Warner for over 10 years, and been involved with the high school program over the past 4. The past 2 years I have been sucked into the high school program more and more. I am the strength coach for the team using Westside Barbell principles. I also assist with the O and D line, and have been known to yell at the OC when he throws the ball. It is a small 2A school so you get lots of job titles. In 2015 we played for the 2A state title against Monrovia and lost. This past season we made it to semi-state losing a heartbreaker to Eastbrook when they scored with 20 seconds left. Oh ya and I am a double wing junky especially the Murphy shotgun wing since that is what we run.
