Well the only part I have is if the player is already in deep trouble of failing. Which is to take away laying time. As far as the "at risk" players I have decided on a study hall of sorts after practice, and possibly some form of daily punishment until the grade is back up to passing. The punishment would bear crawling or up downs, and it would increase incrementally until the grade is back to adequately passing.

Coaches,
I recently sat down with my current principal to discuss the interview process for a Head Coach, and I'm trying to create a solid plan for academics. What I mean by this is what is your plan for students that are close to failing/just below passing(whether key player or scrub), what is your corrective plan for those that are failing miserably?
I have some ideas, but I don't think it's a solid/good plan. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

This was Dang stupid of me to leave out with the current RPO aspect of the game:
How do they identify who they will attack and how they will attack the conflict defender with RPO game?

What's their plan for attacking all three levels of the defense?
How do they identify the weakest players(attack these players)?
How do they assess a team's conditioning? Team speed?
What is their plan to steal yardage whether short yardage or goal line situations?
How many run concepts(IZ,Power,Counter, etc.) do they take with them week to week? Is it the full menu or do they keep it small 4-6 concepts?
How many passing concepts do they take with them week to week? Is it the full menu or do they only take 3-4 QK game, 2-3 PAP, 2-3 DRP, 2 screens, etc?
How much time do they spend installing some B.S. play to make the opposing think?

The negatives aren't many but I have found that drawing formations is much easier/better in Powerpoint. With the version I have 2016(I think) you can actually place the powerpoint into the Visio document.
Another problem I've ran into is that the text is very sensitive. For example if you want to make 1 word bold DON'T click the Bold button, highlight the word and then use control+B. If you want to capitalize a word or two it's the same way.
The other negative is only when you're first starting, and that is the challenge of finding all of the lines you want/need in order to draw up your play diagrams. However once you find them it gets easier to keep them around.
THose are the biggest negatives I have found.. way more positives for Visio than negatives.
The other negative is that MOST people do not operate Visio, so if you're going to be giving a presentation make sure you have your computer, OR save a PDF so that you can pull it up anywhere anytime.

I'm currently using a combination of Microsoft Vizio($200 one time payment) and Microsoft powerpoint. Both have huge advantages, and both have cons. That being said the only perfect systems are the collegiate professional level programs that are literally thousands of $$$(XOS, Drangonfly, etc.)

There's a coach down in Georgia, I forgot his name... he uses "Manly Mondays". Every Monday he gives a quick lesson about what it means to be "a man". He used everyday ideas like how to change a tire, gave a lesson about how to layer rope to multiply it's strength for pulling someone's car out of ditch.
You could implement this concept into your off-season routine in order to get your desired reaction. Utilize stories, and the importance of those things. Tons of short clips on youtube about importance of being on time, finishing what you start, loving your teammates, etc.

All skill players must remove gloves, all skill players must remove arm sleeves(Unless its long sleeve shirt). OL/DL replace the molded cleats with screw in cleats, and replace the cleats with the longest cleats possible. Take plenty of spare Unis to change into at halftime for the "Dudes". Do those heavily tackified gloves not work in the rain? Are the NFL and College guys going through several pair? Or just drying them or does it matter? I can't answer to that Coach, BUT I can say that by removing the gloves it has helped especially late in the year. Another thing that has helped, when it is cold but not wet buy latex gloves and wear the latex gloves under the WR gloves. Seems to help the kids hands stay warmer.

Coach, I don't know you from Adam, BUT 49 years is a long time to do anything. There's no telling how many lives you've impacted, you give this young whipper snapper hope to make it that long(only 8 years in), and for that I thank you. Truly an inspiration to those young guns and up and comers!
ENJOY the R&R Coach, I'd say its well deserved! God Speed!

I'm the wide receivers coach and I probably average 10-12 a week. But that's counting game day prep, game day corrections, and practice corrections.
At my previous school I was run game coordinator and averaged 18-20 but I was correcting the OL, RB, and QB mesh. That again counts scouting, practice, and corrections.

We had 15 holding calls 2 games ago, and had 5 this past friday night. So IMO no holding calls are very much still alive.

We require ALL staff to be there by 8 am on Saturdays, and stay until the game plan is solid. No meetings on Sundays, Except semi-final or State Championship weeks.
We do require some players to come in on Saturdays, BUT ONLY for mandatory Ice baths. The list of Players are typically OL/DL, RBs and LBs. Typically the numbers for that is 10-11 players. It has been very beneficial for us and the players eventually grow to Love the ice baths.

We used this and we tried to incorporate the "whole" student-athlete, not to be cliche. Things we included for points were:
Grades Attendance(football and School, tardies were counted as well) Attending other Sports games Maxes and Competitions Community Service Opportunities Extra Physical activity(this would be running, skills training, lifting with video evidence)
The teams that really wanted to win obviously would because they took full advantage of gaining the extra points when they could.

WE have 45 mins. of weights and about 2.15 hours or practice time. Bit of a culture shock initially for our kids, but they have adjusted well. It has also paid off for the most part, in the past 5 years we've made 5 semifinal appearances, and 2 state championship appearances.

Tennessee attempted to play full seasons across the state. I can't speak for everyone, but our team didn't have 1 single case of Covid. We did gain 5 covid forfeiture wins, and made it to the State Championship game in our classification. The team we played in the state game played 12 full games, with 2 Covid forfeiture wins.
I don't have any more stats than that at the moment but I can try to find some more rough data.

Worst one I ever saw I was still playin... Our Center snapped about 25 snaps right over the the QB's over head... OL coach gets his ass ripped about fixing the snap, OL coach coaches the kid up and he does better... a few weeks go by same thing starts happening again... OL immediately talks to him and tells him "If you don't keep your ass down, snap, punch and step perfect I'm going to kick you square in your balls."
Next play snap sails, Head coach "Run it again", everyone gets in their stance OL coach stops the QB and then proceeds to kick the center square in the balls. Never had another problem snapping. The whole team laughed their a#@es off lol.

I really appreciate the advice coaches! As far corrective actions I have used the following:
1) Rolls (Self- explanatory) 2) Board- Players pushes 2x4 along the grass/turf for a certain amount of distance 3) Box Squats- Player puts 45 lb plate on his back and performs box for x amount of reps.
Should there be multiple corrective actions for punishable offenses or should there only be 1 corrective action?

All of these a great suggestions. In years past at the school I'm currently at we have been able enforce structure and standards. However, this year is proving difficult just because we have alternating school schedules... An A day and B day... half the school attends basically. It's been pretty smooth but when our players have bad days, they are BAD days.
Just trying to prepare myself for the future if I'm ever fortunate enough to be a Head Coach. Trying to develop plans/protocols having a plan of action.

I'm curious what are somethings that all you coaches do to instill discipline within your program?
How do you determine the severity of the punishment to equate the action committed?
What are some unforgivable offenses in your programs?
Lastly, how do you determine when it is time to cut someone loose? Or do you let them cut themselves more or less?

Stick to the plan. He's no longer a "Football Team Member" so he does not have the right to lift with the team. He made his decision, now he gets to learn to live without football. If he decides he misses it and wants to come back then that is another discussion, until then he just a another kid.

The way we handled it in years past was the following: 1) Until the sport OFFICIALLY starts they are football so they are expected to continue with football activities. 2) Once their sport OFFICIALLY starts they are expected to get 2-3 lifts in a week. We augment their workout so that it suits their sport as well, and they re never allowed to lift with us on game days.
They chose to pay mutliple sports and part of being an adult it "Time Management". What better way to teach "Time Management" than when a young man plays 2-3 sports and doesn't make excuses but does what is asked of him in order to play those sports. Train the overall athlete, not just the sport that he plays.
THe only question I have is: Why wouldn't you award the player points if he is going out of his way to be fully committed to both sports? That should warrant extra points in my eyes.
