Our fine governor in the state of Illinois is set to announce a mask mandate for all those attending or working in schools for this upcoming year this afternoon.
Also going to mandate vaccinations for all those working in prisons such as myself. Should be interesting how his #1 supporter- our union, who has vocally said mandatory vaccinations aren't cool, reacts.

Played in college with a kid from Savanah Georgia whose HS nickname was the Atom Smashers. I thought that was pretty cool.

Dixon HS in Illinois used to have the visiting coaches sit in a crow's nest in the gym rafters looking out a window at the field. I do not know of this is still the case. That is so ratch As my career in coaching progressed, being away from everyone seemed more and more desirable.

One school we played a few years ago has the visitor coaches stand at the top of the bleachers. We had parents surrounding us the whole game. A school we used to play had the coaches go on top of the gym behind the endzone before they had a press box. Ever been up in a hunting blind? Argenta Oreana HS in Illinois used to put you in a crow's nest that was attached to a light pole that was just inside the concrete ring on the inside of the track. The front of the box only ended up being about 1 yard off the sideline. It was actually a fantastic view of the game.

That crazy. One of schools we play has the visitor "box" as a standing area with wooden fence in the stands. We had a locker room with the bathroom at one end of a horse shoe layout. The bathroom opened to a sink and a toilet beside the sink with no privacy walls. One school we played a few years ago has the visitor coaches stand at the top of the bleachers. We had parents surrounding us the whole game. A school we used to play had the coaches go on top of the gym behind the endzone before they had a press box. Do they have to do it against today's LBers or 1967's? 1967 would see massive carnage. I could see a pre-knee wreckage Butkus messing it up though. Don't misunderstand me. Today's 320 pounders would have heart attacks after one rep of Sweep. I think the same guys that spent college running a play every 45 seconds or whatever would find a way to make due running a sweep every 3 minutes.

Conversely, I've always wondered how successful I would have been if you could use that time machine to drop a 6'1 285lb college me into 1930 or 1940. Can you imagine today's guards running the Green Bay Sweep? Do they have to do it against today's LBers or 1967's? 1967 would see massive carnage. I could see a pre-knee wreckage Butkus messing it up though.

The problem that I have with choosing historical lineups is with the linemen. They had jobs in the offseason so they didn't work out, weight training was rudimentary at best and even discouraged, nutrition-wise they ate what they ate, and supplements were unheard of. If you put 250 lb. Forrest Gregg into a time machine and had him play today I doubt he'd be able to. Magically give him all of the advantages of modern players, though, and he's still a Hall of Famer. Conversely, I've always wondered how successful I would have been if you could use that time machine to drop a 6'1 285lb college me into 1930 or 1940.

I think the answer to this isn't any system, but more of a personality, personal work ethic/work habit issue.
The simple answer is- if you know you're wasting time and energy chasing things that you have no business involved in, stop it.

Unitas almost didn't make it in his era.
As far as today? I imagine his scouting report would say- Too short. Long looping arm motion. Carries football too low when setting up. Most successful off play action. Slow footed. Strong arm with good accuracy.
His intelligence was also questioned 70 years ago. That could be a real problem in today's era.

DL is where I feel this conversation makes me giddy……I really believe 4 all time greats up there and you could get away with playing cover 2 with nfl minimum guys. College guys talk all the time how the hardest cats to get are dominant DL guys, because of rarity and impact. You can avoid throwing at Deion, but you have to account for a great DL every play, regardless of the play. Agreed. You put a front 4 of Reggie White, John Randle, Warren Sapp and LT out there, you better have the greatest quick game ever.

Don Hutson for a dollar is also crazy. He is exactly who I was thinking about when I said some of the all time greats wouldn't get invited to camp.

These exercises generally just turn into "Show me what era of the NFL you grew up watching".
That being said, it's an exercise in futility to argue eras of the NFL. Some of the all time greats wouldn't be invited to camp in today's game and some, such as Namath, would be absolute monsters in today's rule changes.

Studies have repeatedly shown people who swear frequently are far more intelligent, trustworthy and have a larger vocabulary than those who don't. I fully support these fu**ing findings. The only time I have had to contradict another adult as a professional was when I got a co-teacher who told the kids “no intelligent or articulate person ever used swear words…” Huh??? Never? Like ever? Not once did an intelligent or articulate person use a cuss word? What a uniquely stupid thing to say. That's just fu**in stupid.

Before Gibbs went into The League he coached for Woody Hayes at Ohio State. Probably where he learned how to use "colorful" language. Most of us just don't publish them on social media.

Thanks guys… I don’t think it’s an issue of the culture needing Rockne or us with a lack/over confidence—- something is off. I think it’s the time between warmups and kick off. I haven’t gone inside in a while bc our locker room is a ways away from the field. Likewise, on the road most locker rooms are far away so we stay on the field. But I may have to switch it up… The only reason we went in was to avoid all the stupid pregame crap. It certainly wasn't because of some rah rah, shake down the thunder speech coming from me.

We tried to mimic our daily practice routine as much as possible so that by game time we'd physically feel like we were at the beginning of the heavy duty scrimmage part of practice.
We'd come out, do the exact same dynamic stretch we did everyday, go to offensive indy, team O, defensive indy then some team D. Usually started about 5:55. Take it in at 640ish. On the field 655ish.

Illinois just put a school on "probation" for saying masks would be optional before the start of next year. If they don't change their policy the state is going to shut the school down. From the Champaign newspaper-
He pointed to the Red Hill school district in southeastern Illinois that was put on probation by the state for relaxing its mask guidance. If the district doesn’t alter its policy, the state could close the school.
The district had made masks optional going into the fall. In response, the Illinois State Board of Education, in a letter dated June 23, said it would lower its recognition status to “on probation.”

What? Are you trying to say top programs don't use the NFL as a selling point to potential recruits? Have you ever seen the stuff the use to recruit? That's one of their top points. the selling point of the nfl,the riches of the nfl? Not really a draw. Not if you can work a do nothing lucrative job for 4 yrs. Ya. Who needs 100+ million dollars potentially when you could make a couple thousand selling sweet tea?

the idea, selling point, GONE. And the nfl? Not a selling point. Such PITHY responses. It is like you want things to go back to 1862 or something similar. Hard to believe though, because sometimes you sound young, like you GRADuated in ' 17 or something like that. Someone's been in the Smirnoff red white and blues early this year.

Man, you really are derailing this thread with some strange views here while simultaneously displaying you have very little grasp of how current social media marketing/influencing is changing the advertising field I'm pretty sure I understand it. Step 1- be attractive Step 2- post pictures of you in skimpy clothing Step 3- get lots of followers Step 4- get companies to give you money to hock their crap Did I miss some amazing nuance?

Have you looked at their accounts?
I'm sure Abella Danger's 8.6 million Instagram followers are there for her political views.
Sidenote- 33% of Gen Z identifies somewhere on the LGBTQ scale.

Umm, the popularity of those accounts have nothing to do with them being athletes. That's kind of the point... That the money is going to go with the people who create the best brand, not necessarily the most stars on their recruiting profile or the best football program. That is why I think some of the handwringing over the new name, image and likeness policies creating an insurmountable advantage for some programs (the programs already seeming to enjoy unsurmountable advantages) is unwarranted. If you are suggesting it is just because of the looks of those athletes, well I would argue that majority of their followers are not males... I forgot that only males are attracted to blondes who post bikini pictures every other day...

There are several accounts in which people are impersonating the The Cavinder twins (a set of sisters who play for Fresno State) which have 10 TIMES THAT. For fake accounts. The REAL account of those ladies has over 4 MILLION followers. They just signed a deal with Boost Mobile among other companies. LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne has over 1 million on Instagram and 4 million on tik tok. Umm, the popularity of those accounts have nothing to do with them being athletes.
