It has taken a decade to get where we are. All of our coaches are considered varsity coaches. 2 coaches are volunteers that get a booster club stipend. Freshmen HC coaches RB’s 9-12 Freshmen DC coaches DB’s 9-12. This was an emergency hire we would prefer to have a DL coach here. Don’t get me wrong this coach is excellent, one of the best young coaches in our area. Freshmen volunteer QB coach 9-12. This guy is incredibly valuable. Alumni who set school records and got us our 3 play off game appearances. LB coach OLB coach DL coach DB coach. they have all called the D for a varsity game and the DL guy does JV games OL coach FB/Y coach WR coach- calls the O on JV. HC- O coordinator. varsity volunteer- assists with all backs T/F/Y. When freshmen coach is gone. with less than 11 we don’t get the HS volunteer canyoncoach that is great but I suspect there are very few on here in a similar situation. CS maybe? tog might have been. my last two spots had 16 coaches for football most of those had other sports also

Or "Gator Roll" if that's what you call it. Apparently because of lower leg injuries to ball carriers (Cowboys' Tony Pollard on Monday night vs. Chargers for ex.) Already tough enough to play defense. Next step - Flag Football? might as well be

Not sure how many of those on here are familiar with Lincoln University, but it is an upstart "Division 2" football team located in Oakland, California. They have had a football program for three years now, and have not been successful at all, not suprising for a startup. In talking with some of their players after our game today, and seeing things during our game i am shocked and appalled at how this university is still in existence. They came to our game with 46 players, 5 coaches, zero trainers or medical staff, and a few assistant type bodies. Players were responsible for bringing water out on to the field during timeouts, and our student assistants were sent over to their sideline to fill up waters for them. They also did not have anyone who handled equipment issues, so during the game our equipment manager would walk across the field to assist them. Injured players had to be assisted off the field by other players, as again, they had no medical staff. The players i spoke with after the game informed me that the vast majority of their roster (70%) are ineligible, more than half of their players do not even attend Lincoln University, the player i spoke with attends an NAIA school via an online program. They have picked up random players throughout the season off of the street. They do not have any football facilities, and instead practice at a local public park. I was also informed that water is not provided or available to the players during practice. They also mentioned that they are not fed at all from the program, and are responsible for feeding themselves on their road trips. They are playing 12 straight games this season, no bye week, and all of them on the road. Oh and on top of that, they informed me that they have active felons on their roster. The players i spoke with informed me that they are desperately trying to get out of there, and are looking for other options. They are essentially treating it as a JUCO and trying to get film of themselves playing against the D1 and D2 schools on their schedule. Apparently the head coach is aware of this, and actually limits players reps in games and informs them that "they already have enough stuff on film". After hearing all of this today, and seeing the manner in which this program operates, it really hurt me in a manner i havent experienced before. I feel awful for these kids who are in a dangerous situation with no one looking out for their health or well being. Whatever you do, do not let anyone you know attend this university. Sounds like neon and prime prep really.

Been over 9 years since my last post here. Since that time, I have been at 7A Thompson HS (AL) for one year (I actually took a teaching job and full time coaching job, but we sucked and all got fired LOL, then they hired great coaches and started winning state LOL) then back to my real profession and volunteer at a MS in the Hoover system for 3 years coaching DL and LBs, then DL at a 6A HS for one season, and then work had me unable to coach since 2018. I'm back volunteering at a 1A school with a strong history for winning and I'm coaching DL. I also help with LBs and call the fronts for the Defense. We are currently 4-2, 4-0 in region play. I'm having great fun and really craving to get back in to soaking up knowledge. We have a great group of kids, with not a single bad attitude on the team, I like all my fellow coaches too. Great community support, and small town Friday night FB is so cool. Since 2015 I've pretty well been on the Defensive side of the ball coaching DL and LBs. I'm a confirmed 3-3 stack guy. That said, I have always run the 3-3 slanting and blitzing to what amounted to a 4-2 front at the snap of the ball. We are doing it a bit different where I am now, so I'm learning on the fly. My weakness on the D side of the ball is coverages. I'd love to see some resources on coverages if anyone can direct me that way. Glad to be back on Huey! Hope everyone is having a great season! Coach JR formerly known here as: auburn welcome back ask away in the defensive section

Had a ref throw a flag from our 40 that landed on the opposite 30. Thats right a 30 yard flag throw. Anyone ever seen one travel farther in a game? playing a game against a local dfw team, on their 100 anniversary of playing football homecoming game we run OSV give from about 50 yards in, and the ref at the goalline threw a holding call from the goalline to the 50 to screw us home cookin there

What most stood out to me from last night's game is that CSU lost over 180 yards on penalties and looked completely unhinged at times. What stood out to me (could not watch the game itself, do not have cable) was the nearly partisan way that ESPN presented much of the pregame stuff. With the Countdown to Gameday crew making sure to sport their sunglasses and clearly infer that they fell on the CU side of things regarding that silly spat, to their newest major property Pat Mcafee clearly not being a neutral party in the silly spat etc. I get it, if I were running ESPN, I would start hitching my wagon to CU and Prime right now as a ratings leader. As Television/Broadcasting continues to ascend to the most important power broker in college football (and thus college athletics), I do have some concerns that sports broadcasts and coverage might go the way of partisan "news"/entertainment. been that way for a while now it was vile

I don't disagree...but I do think there is normally more than one team in each league that deserves to be in. Devil's advocate: If a team can't win its own league, why does it deserve a spot in a playoff to determine state championship?? many have

as I have long said here, there are 3 types of offense to even out talent gaps
1. option 2. misdirection 3. sling it
basing in one or the other is the way forward based on what you know, then moving from there based on talent

I don’t know what your practices look like but scrap any and all “bag drills” that are designed to condition and work on “movement skills” and replace them with key reads and reactions. They will naturally learn their movement skills by doing this and rep their reads and reactions. Lastly minimize the amount of players that can be placed in a bind. If his key takes him “here”, don’t be pissed when he isn’t “there” on a once in a blue moon scenario. His reads should be clear and concise; if he does this, you do that with as few if/thens as possible. The more if/thens the more of a bind they are in, and the slower they play. excellent I never understood bag drills that are just offseason movement things during season, makes no sense

A quick whistle is like Pavlov's Dogs. The players get used to it and that is how they will play the game. It's also how the kids get hurt because they don't expect getting hit. They never learn how to take a hit to how to dish one out. IMHO this is just a PC practice and not good for the players. Then again, I am an old school guy and firmly believe that you play the way you practice. agree just don't take folks to the ground, but ALWAYS thud and wrap

Hello coaches, I am going to try to keep it as simple as possible when asking this question. I am 37, entering my 19th season of coaching varsity football but unfortantley I am in bad shape physically as a recent trip to the ER, confirmed by further imaging found 4 herniated discs in my back. It is a struggle to coach physically as sometimes I have to drag my right foot and I can't demonstate some techniques like I normally would. I am struggling mentally not being able to do these things or exercise as I await my date to consult with a surgeon. I currently wear a back brace and have to take several breaks throughout practice to sit down otherwise my legs begin to weaken and I feel a ton of pain. My question for you all is, if any of you have gone through something similar, how did you manage to remain productive in your coaching and/or teaching job? At this point, I am physically miserable but I plan on pushing off the surgery until our season is done because I would feel bad leaving our program high and dry in the season, as a special education teacher I know my students would struggle with a sudden change like this, and lastly, I have heard TERRIBLE things about back surgeries. Like I said, I have no idea what kind of surgery I would have, and what the process would involve until after August 18. I don't know how short-term disability works or whether its worth it vs. using sick days. I also have a 7 year old son and 10 month old daughter I split custody of with their mother so I am trying to keep them in mind as well. I know this post is probaly more rambling then it should be but I am looking for advice from anyone who has "been there" or at least coached with someone who has been through these issues. I would appreciate hearing anyones stories as I weigh my options. Lastly, as August begins in full swing, I wish all of you the best of luck this season and thank you for sharing your knowledge and advice with all of us readers, God Bless- Kyle I once broke my leg right before fall camp. Doc told me you can't put any weight on it or we will have to do knee replacement at a similar age. I said, "but it's football season". I spent the time in a wheelchair, chair, and finally a golfcart on the practice field. Games, I called plays from the sideline on big ass crutches putting weight on my knee. Got wiped out at least 5 times because I couldn't move out the way. Made me a much better coach having to learn how to teach things in different ways where I couldn't move/demonstrate. At the time, I felt like a warrior for the program and like a tough ass coach guy like we think we have to be. I regret the helllll out of it now. My knee is screwed, the ISD I was working for was total crap people ( not my hc, the admin) There were some good kids, but I should have for the sake of my health and family taken that year off from coaching. I could have easily taught from the wheelchair and rehabbed correctly instead of damaging it more. Best of luck man.

Then there is the very old story about the grizzled old coach down South who wants his show his kids how tough he was, so he arranges for a demonstration. He brings an alligator into the locker room, unzips his pants, and puts his tallywacker in between the alligators jaws. The alligator commences a chomping, and a chewing and he just grunts. He finally grabs a helmet off of a nearby bench and smacks the alligator upside the head hard enough to knock it out cold. "Do any of you think that you're tough enough to do that?" he roars. Finally a kid in the back timidly raises his hand and says: "I'll do it, but just don't hit me in the head with a helmet when I'm done!" Actually a terrible idea, just another case of severe testosterone poisoning. always hear this story with a tx snapping turtle

Does anyone think that the current state of business affairs regarding the RB position is going to filter down/impact HS kids? Kids not wanting to play RB because the position is significantly less valuable at higher levels...which will likely filter down to college levels...which then may filter to HS? it certainly will "my boy aint playing rb" bs for this very reason, thus making coaches turn to sling it offenses even if it is not what is best for their teams, just sad what has shaped our game

I was the guy, no way any hazing shitt would have happened on our watch, just wouldn't happen
even in college as a player in d1 swc, no ffffing way would that {censored} have happened
1. if anyone even brought that crap up, there would have been a fight
2. if anyone ever submitted to that kind of shitt then they would have been shunned forever
but the end of it is, there should have been a coach in there to stop the shitt
fitz is toast
