We had 57 players on our Varsity roster
Our Frosh + JV roster = 65 players
We have approximately 950 students at our school.

Does your state have rules for the number of players you can dress or the number of staff you are allowed on your sideline? I'm looking to get our insanely restrictive limits changed in our area, and I'm trying to build our case by showing how out of sync we are with every other region. What are the restrictions? Ok, bear with me...we have no roster or staff size limits until the state championship game. In the state championship game, you are limited to 9 staff members on the sideline. Staff = coaches, trainers/medical staff, waterboy, ball boy, Equipment manager, etc. Basically anybody who isn't a player. You are only allowed to dress 56 Players in our state championship game. This is regardless of classification/school size. Can you imagine telling a kid (and his parents) who invested 4+ years into your program that they can't be on the sidelines for the state championship game?!?

The best program to ever do it really pushed the "set for 1 second" rule.

I helped coach my Godson's 10 year old team last summer. Not that this matters, but we won the championship.
Our entire playbook was:
Bucksweep Right Trap Right Criss Cross Counter Left Waggle Pass Left QB Sneak
In the huddle, those were simply called: Bucksweep, Trap, Criss Cross, Waggle, QB Sneak
We practiced 2 times a week and played 1 game a week.

Who's buying a Tetra Tackle Bag for next season? Does anybody have one already? If yes, I'd love to hear about it. Some of our coaches are asking me to purchase one for this upcoming season. I like that you can get alot of reps in a short amount of time, but I'm still not 100% sold on it. tetra-na.com/raecrowther.com/product/jax-tackler/

Blue chip is good, I think Graphic Edge might still be around, they were good. I was not happy with BSN quality or price. The Graphic Edge is now a company called "Game One".

Lots of issues specific to private schools, but still, I found this very interesting....especially for any coach who's had issues with their admin. Worth watching in my opinion.

Why does DL play one yard off??? The DL is required to play one yard off in Canada.

I coach in the top classification in SC and have for the last 20 years. Most everyone is 10 gun personnel, with some type of 'heavy/jumbo/Single wing' for short yardage/goal line. A couple go 11 personnel or 20 personnel. There is only 1 Wing T team. There is one that will go 12 personnel. Other than the Wing T team, we haven't played a mostly under center team since about 2009/2010 Double Wing team. Usually going under center is a dead give a way for QB sneak. The last time we saw a team that showed any type of Pro I type look was in 2017, and it was their 'change of pace' offense. The offenses in SC at our level are as exciting as a bowl of milk. Meanwhile, 5 of the 6 finalists in the Illinois state championships 1A-3A are UC wing-t/flexbone teams. I'm fairly certain all 5 beat shotgun spread teams in the semis. A bad weather Friday during playoffs can really impact the types of teams that advance. I make this comment in FAVOR of traditional under center offenses. There's a reason why under center "run first" offenses are more common in areas with harsh climates. We made the switch to Wing-T after we had a very talented spread team lose in the playoffs to an inferior opponent. The game was played in heavy sleet and high winds. After that game, our staff made the decision to never again leave our fate up to mother nature.

We have a large number of IEP kids on our roster.
We switched to position specific wristbands a few years ago and have had great success using this system. Each position's wristband tells the player exactly what to do on each play.
For example, if we run Bucksweep Right, the Right Guard's band will say: "Pull Right & Kickout 1st man outside of W's block".
The Right Tackle's band will say: "Block Inside Gap-Down-Backer"
etc.

Now I'm confused...the first clip is what I thought a "hip drop" tackle is. Then the every other clip on the video is ball carriers getting suplexed.

It's really hard to answer this question on a message board, but usually, the answer to limited grass and hard ground is a combo of aeration, seeding and water. That's the general prescription. Your previous methods of mowing could also have an effect on what's going on. Heck, your mower deck type could even be part of the priblem. I'll also go on record as saying crowns are stupid. Also- why do you practice on your game field if it has so much traffic from other sports? It is our practice field, not our game field. Our game field is off campus. Our school board handles the grass cutting. They use large tractors to cut the grass. Is there something specifically they should be doing (or not doing)?

The middle portions of our grass practice field are bald and rock hard. We can't get seed to catch there and water isn't penetrating well.
The sides still have good grass cover and the ground is softer there. Our field has a crown (the middle is elevated higher than the sides to assist with drainage).
To give you an idea of our climate - it's basically Northern Michigan.
There are other school teams that use the field (soccer, etc.). I know many are thinking we need to practice our systems at different places on the field and more situational football to reduce traffic, we do this, but the middle obviously still gets significantly more traffic. As I know this is a common issue, what are some things you've done to help fix this issue?
Would aerating the hard areas in the middle help?
Thank you in advance.

There are signs such from his HS coaching career, Prime Prep, and not winning a Celebration Bowl. To be clear there a solid chance he successful, consistent bowl team, but it not the slam dunk some people are making it out as. I'm not sure if it will be a "slam dunk" in terms of wins-losses. But I think it is 100% a slam dunk hire for Colorado that has already payed off tenfold. This seems to be the lowest risk "gamble" ever. The upside significantly outweighs the risk. If it doesn't workout, at the very least, Colorado will have significantly more talented players on their roster for the next head coach hire. Colorado has been struggling for decades. To change that, you would need an incredible staff that was given many years to gradually change things (and stayed at Colorado after they started to have some success)...or you can bring in a disrupter to completely change everything immediately. In the current college football climate, I think Deion might be one of the few people with enough influence and latitude to be that major disrupter. On another note, about great players being great coaches...it is 100% a math thing, but I also think great players are usually set up for failure in coaching. They are often gifted too much responsibility too soon instead of learning the profession in the trenches. While Deion's rise in the coaching profession was extremely fast, I do think the fact that he coached at the high school level first has helped him as a coach.

hello coaches because of some health issues and being a single dad, I wasn't able to get out to clinics like I normally have. I was wondering. What are some of the best online clinics you have watched this off-season? I have a subscription to Chief Pigskin but I am always looking for good sources to learn from... thanks for any responses What were the best clinics you watched on Chief Pigskin? I'm considering a Trap Life membership.

I understand that some states have bigger population than other. I understand that HS with 4,5k students will have probably bigger chance build good team than HS with 1,3k. The reason for my question is prosaic. When I want to watch and learn from HS football, I wonder where the "HEIGHEST QUALITY OF FOOTBALL GAMES" is. That is all. Thank you very much for your answer. Do you want to "learn HS football" to help you coach at this level?

Start of practice, kid walks up to me in street clothes and I ask "why aren't you suited up?"
The kid lifts up his shirt and he has big red dots all over his chest and belly.
I ask: "Did you have an allergic reaction?"
Kid: "No, I got laser hair removal on my chest today and I can't sweat for a couple days".

Have any of you sent a player to the New Mexico Military Institute?
I know nothing about this program or the JUCO scene in general. They recently offered one of our players a "full ride". They claim everything is covered (room & board, food, tuition, etc.). I didn't think JUCO's could offer full rides. Any insight would be appreciated.

The larger the talent gap, the more often the more talented team wins.
If there's a small talent gap, the percentage is lower.

I think it could work if the Student-Assistant's role was limited to things like:
- Breaking down film - Stats - Making scout cards - Helping set up & put away equipment
That said, I think it would take a significant investment of time on your part to teach the student how to do these jobs properly.

I was a hell of a lot smarter when I had 7 NFL players on my roster (4 current, 3 will be drafted this April) . Good gracious alive I have beaten teams that had 15 d1 players on the team, but 7 NFL players?? That is crazy! Has there ever been another high school team with 7+ NFL players on their roster? Serious question!

Best and easiest fundraiser we did last season was draft a generic letter to local businesses asking if they want to sponsor our Program.
Any business that sponsored us received a Team picture with the businesses logo on it and we also thanked them on our Program's social media.
We told each kid to hand out a minimum of 3 letters to local businesses. These could be a friend or family member's business, their own place of employment (e.g. fast food restaurants or grocery stores), or just a random business. We were shocked at how much money some business donated.

The Coach & Coordinator Podcast pumps out a lot of episodes. They have some excellent content
The AFCA's "Inside the Headset" will occasionally have some great keynote speakers from past presentations
The Coach Tony Franklin Podcast isn't for everybody, but there are some great coaching nuggets in there. Tony also pumps out a lot of content
The Coaches Collective had some good stuff, but they rarely put out new content.
