So you mean to tell me that if a coach doesn't care to show up, a HS kid will? Now if this is some water bottle filling, set up drills, team manager, team dad coach. I get that. If you're a position coach or higher, you gotta be there. You can't hold a kid accountable if you as a coach aren't.
Did you even read my post? It isn't a question of "caring," it's a question of Life getting in the way.
I also said most of them showed up when they could.
And I never once heard a kid say "Coach Smith isn't coming to Workout so I'm going to miss."
If I had tried to require that they be at ALL Off-Season activities I might have been coaching the team by myself when practice started.
Football is not as important to others as it is to us head coaches.
You get what you tolerate.

Another nice platitude but nothing to do with the reality of the head coaching situations I've been in.
Are you a head coach?
If so, what do you require of your assistants in the Off-Season?
Ever lose any good coaches because of it?
Where I've been I could not mandate that assistants do anything outside of the competitive season (August-October) for which they were paid.
But again most were willing to do what they could when they were available because they DID care.
I wasn't coaching at Ohio State or the HS equivalent.
Nevertheless we still managed to have our fair share of success on the field.

on our staff...
HC/OC (Me)- 29 RB's / DC- 34 QB's / DB's- 33 OL / DL- 31 OL / DL (JV DC) - 20 RB / DB (JV OC)- 27
Average age= 29
Even though I am one of the younger coaches on staff, I have been coaching high school football since I was 19. I think our staff being younger has helped us in connecting to the kids and rebuilding a program that was riding a 13 game losing streak, and I was Head Coach #5 in TWO..yes 2 years! (They had 4 head coaches in one year before our staff!) We have good, reliable guys on our staff who are "all in" for us. However they do not have much experience. Besides my DC who has just as much experience as myself, the other coaches are entering their 2nd year of coaching high school football this year. I am currently searching for 1 more paid assistant and if I create my ideal candidate, it would be an experienced coach. I am lucky that my former HS Head Coach (20 year veteran with a state title ring) will help us through the summer every year but I think a good staff needs a healthy mix of both young and old!

Guess things are different here.

Perhaps so. Where is "here"?
BTW you did not answer my questions.
