Our varsity staff is basically an AARP organization. Youngest coach is 35, but then it's like a 10-15 year gap to the next youngest. Most are 60+.
Our JV staff is basically a day care center. Oldest is 39, then it's me at 30, DL coach at 27, WR coach is 21, OLB coach is 19-20, LB coach is 19-20.
Frosh staff is 3-4 guys in their 40s and my best friend who's 30.

43 where Im at now, which is 8 years older than me; and kinda sucks.
Everywhere else Ive been the average age has been my age, so all the other coaches were in similar stage in life (kids same age, etc); it made things more enjoyable because we could have our families together more easily. Making it worse is that only a few of us are on campus guys; there is very little staff cohesion.

HC, DC - early 50s WR - late 50s OLB (myself) late 40s) DL- late 20s Sec - late 20s Sec - mid 40s OC - early 40s OL - late 20s RB's - late 20s
By far one of the best defensive staffs I've worked with. Age has nothing to do with it. It's all about working together with no egos in order to put a plan together.

Our average is 38. I have two older coaches in their 50s and 60s respectively. I'm 38. Then I have three other assistants in their 20s.
That makes for the good math problem. Find the ages of the other assistants. Lol.

When our staff started, we were very young (22, 25, 30, 30, 37)
Now, it feels like more and more we are the old guys (30, 33, 38, 38, 45).....probably 1/2 the staffs are younger than we are.....

Ours is probably around 47. Almost every one of us, including our HC, is in his mid 40s (and have been together for 15-20 years) with a pair of coaches in their 60s. At 35, I'm tied with our S coach for second youngest on staff. We also have a 23 year old former player helping us out as the young Padawan.

In wisconsin our state rules for playoff qualification are .500 record in conference gets in you in, hence losing record in playoffs. In my 4 years as head coach we have been about 2 games below .500 each year. Still trying to gain experience as we go. I am only coach that teaches in the building so it is tough sledding but hopefully we are getting better.

More so has to do with the jobs of the off campus coaches.
Communication is important for off campus guys for making sure they know what's going on. But, having a coach who can't make it on time everyday or even make it at all does not mean that you don't have "the right kind of coach". I've had guys on staff who worked construction and they tried their best to make it, but during building season, it was hard. You work around it and organize your staff so that your plans never hinge on them being there. They add value when they're present. To hold it against them that they aren't there doing a volunteer job because they're working to support their family doesn't seem to make much sense.
If that's not the case and they just don't seem as "bought in" as you, remember you're a coaching fanatic on a message board two weeks after the season. There are varying levels of commitment to the craft even amongst the coaching ranks.
