What in the hell are you talking about? Offensive coaches recruit...just like, um, every single college HC? And coaches don't play defense at all. That's just the players. how many of these gurus recruit at a top level? And have had playing really good defense? Jimbo Fisher Dabo Swinney Urban Meyer

Best. Troll. Ever. And like morons, we keep feeding you because we genuinely thought/think you are a football coach who cares about his players and the game. science is man made. If you believe science is king, you then believe man is supreme being. That whole line of thought is irrational. So is religion, if that is the direction you are thinking next. But please read something other than a blog post so you can create a argument. At the moment even your screen name makes no since.

Don’t know if anyone has said this yet, probably so but you cant teach BFS. I can teach a kid who to throw to and when to throw the ball, as a coach i am paid to do that. Can’t teach 6-4, 225 with a cannon arm. I want to start with the Porsche and supe it up, not a Prius. no doubt measurabales matter. But as long as someone is within acceptable measures, there is a good argument that his performance should count for more. And this is the rub. There are plenty of stories like Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice not being super fast but still being Hall of Fame. But it isn’t like those guys were small weak and slow. They just weren't the absolute BFS. But, for a qb, I think measurables matter the least of any position. Intagibles are much more important as long as the measurables are acceptable. Yes but I was speaking of statistics. To me high school stats don’t matter that much. Look at Mississippi States QB, kid threw 75 passes in high school. I personally look at tape more than stats on a page.

There is no excuse in the world NOT to have an out-of-season program IF YOU STAY THERE! The OP never said that he did not have an out-of-season program. He is asking what you would do if a team quits mid season. Yes it is nice to say that having an off season program would help, but I assume they do. To answer the OP, I think that one thing to consider is to change your goals from make the playoffs to improve. I know that kind of sucks, and may not help the current cancers, but shifting your goals from something tangible, like making the playoffs, to something intangible like improving may give the kids something more realistic to strive for and something that you can show. Whereas having such a hard goal as making the playoffs makes it easy for the kids to wallow in failure.

For the most part, the scheme that you run isn't nearly as important as the skills and techniques you teach. Make sure that the kids are technically sound and continue to develop as young men and I'm sure that you will be doing a solid job. Scheme can be learned once they get to the high school level.

When does this thread go away? Doesn't seem like football to me. If you don't think that issues like this are important to a coach then you have a lot to learn about this business. I said this when the thread was diverging into politics. I understand the importance of teaching students right and wrong. I also felt that at the time this thread was verging on becoming a shouting match. I meant no disrespect by my comment, and honestly as the thread continues I am regretting my comment. But, As a history major I also see the benefit of peaceful protest, therefore I do not understand the problem we have with a student or group of students kneeling. To me if they can articulate why they are kneeling, they not only should have the right to, but I would encourage it. I call that civic leadership. I wonder if any of you teachers have discussed or are allowed to discuss the issues that are being protested by pro athletes.

What would you do if the whole team decided they wanted to kneel? Personally, if my whole team decided that they wanted to kneel, and had an educated opinion on why, I would allow it.
