I don't know about your school but I hear more about band kids getting in trouble for sleeping around than anyone else I'm 43 no idea if football is to blame or just hitting the 40 wall but I def feel something every day when I wake up. Seem to be mentally stable, depending on who you ask. Because if your school is anything like mine, Band rules the roost. They get coddled by their teachers and especially their parents and are seen as being the kings of the school. No clue when this started.

36 years old. I try to keep in really good shape with lifting and exercise. My body is decently wrecked from football. 4 years of high school, 4 years of college and then I was really smart and played 13 years of semi-pro football. Hips/knees are a little wonky but nothing horrible. Had a few concussions but no real lingering problems. The worst problem I have is my left index finger, I tore the cartilage my freshman year of high school and it never repaired so I can't make a fist.

Nobody wears them anymore. I still have mine from college and high school.
I think it would be cool for a staff to wear them on the sidelines.

On a road trip to a play-off game vs. a very good pass happy team, our best DB got caught with a can of chew (I'm a HS HC). Had to kick him off of the team and have the AD pick him up at our walk through. He had 9 pics in 9 games and was a a true LD DB. We lost rather badly. But I'd make the same choice if it happened again. You kicked a kid off because of a can of dip??? I would do the same if it was against school/team policy. Absolutely hands down. What they do on their own time is their own decision, but it sounds like this player was caught either at a team function or on school grounds.

McAdoo is completely over his head and it is very plain to see. He is the clear example of a coordinator NOT being ready for the big shoes that come with being a head coach.

We did it once before. Clocked them in week 2 42-7 and then faced them again in the Quarterfinals and lost 36-26.

We had a similar situation on the flip side of this. We were down HUGE to a superior opponent and we just don't have the numbers to make wholesale changes. I told our DC to stop blitzing 6 or 7 guys every play and just finish the game out. The opposition took notice and just ran dive the rest of the game to speed up the process.

Just ignore the fools. All that you will do if you keep reading the posts is pee yourself off and you will say or do something in response that makes you look foolish and fuels to the fire of the fools posting. Best to just ignore the situation, ignore the parents, ignore the chatter and you will be fine

I would say just go an commend them on their season, their effort and their habits. Then switch gears to talk about how excited you are to get a chance to coach them and how hard you expect them to work the rest of the school year and into the next season.

Season ended on Friday at 4-5. Frustrating because we should have easily been 6-3. Exciting because we were 0-9 last year and barely scored any points. Now comes the fun part! Progress is progress. Learning how to win is hard work too. No question about it!

"Watching film" does nothing unless you are actually getting something from the film. I worked with a former coach who would constantly watch film...but that was all he did was watch it.

We have a 6'3 265 pound trumpet player. At my previous school we had a 6'6 310 pound choir performer. As feminine as the day is long but looked every part of a D1 football player. Drives you nuts, doesn't it? We had a guy quit the band to play football. About 6'4" and 280. In the first on two practices that he attended he was raw but nobody could move him. The next day I was walking out to practice behind him while the band was practicing. His face lit up and he stared transfixed on the band all the way to the field. I thought then that he was done and I was right. Absolutely. I maintain that if I could have coached the 6'6 kid he could have been great. The trumpet player is only a sophomore so I haven't given up hope on him just yet. When did band become the end all be all for these kids

Had this huge freshman about 6'2, 270 walk past my classroom on the first day. I call him out to class to speak with him. Me: I was wondering if you were interested in playing a sports at the High School Him: "Yeah I was thinking about joining the badminton team" (sounding super feminine) ummmmmmm we didn't have a badminton team Few years later, TODAY I got to see him preform as a member of the dance team at an assembly We have a 6'3 265 pound trumpet player. Our #1 is a good kid. He didn't want the number, I assigned it to him. Assigning it is a different situation than wanting it. They just ordered jerseys before I got here. Thankfully no 69, but there is a 1 and he is that kid. I will never order a 69 jersey. EVER! Unless I get a giant fat kid named Billy Bob

We once had a kid who hadn't come to practice all fall decide to "rejoin" the team on picture day....we had already issued all the other numbers and all we had left was 44...dude was a runningback...he refused to take the jersey, when we told him we didn't have any others he took it reluctantly and eventually broke down and cried, he had tears in his eyes while taking a knee for his individual picture, it was unbelievable...come on dude it's a freaking number Did he stay on past picture week? Other notes- never met a #1 who wasn't a selfish prick. Never met someone who wanted 69 that I didn't want to punch in the face. Our #1 is a good kid. He didn't want the number, I assigned it to him.

Anyone do legacy numbers? For a few years our best RB had #30...because whoever wore #30 for us usually kicked some tail. Have before. I always used to give our starting left tackle #75 because it was usually our best guy and I just always think of that number being a stud. I used to give our starting center #53 too because it was my number. I still try to give a special kid that number

That is a good RB number though! that's what we said!...apparently John Riggins doesn't rate much to the youths I'm willing to wager my yearly salary that they have no clue who John Riggins even is....

I try to give out numbers based on players who have worn them before. At a former school we had a 6'1 400 pound nose tackle who was actually pretty athletic. Our HC at the time always regretted not putting him in #1

Kid: Coach, I'm sorry I missed practice, it's just that my mom worries. Me: Okay Kid: Well, she's not my real mom, she adopted me. But she loves me just the same. Me: Okay Kid: No! She treats me just like I was her own son! She was worried about the storms in the area yesterday, she didn't want me to get hurt in the tornado. Me: Well, it didn't really storm here. Plus, we were inside all day Kid: But she loves me so much that she just was afraid I would get blown away. She said that a tornado could tear the gym apart and we all would have died. Well, you would have died. She kept me at home so I'd still be alive. Can you imagine coach? I'd probably get to start of everybody dies! Yeah...... Was this a high school aged student?

Oh if we are moving to Coaches I have a doozy. We had a guy, self proclaimed OL/RB guru who routinely took credit for running backs minor success but was never at practice. Our Head Coach showed us the list of excuses this guy would give for WHY he couldn't be at practice with everything from kidney problems to his pipes burst. He was always the first one to ask about coaching gear though and would always ask our HC about "winter gear" for his family pictures. Ironically his last name was Day so he was dubbed "Coach Game Day". We even tried to leave him at school one game by telling him the bus left at a different time...he showed up early. He finally quit midseason MIDGAME when another coach questioned what he was telling the RBs when he was never at practice to coach them up.

How about this one, had a kid who didn't play last year and probably would have started this season for us SOMEWHERE in a skill position. He told me; A. he wants to concentrate on basketball because that is where his future is (5'8 and averaged 5 ppg as a sophomore) but the kicker was B. he said he just likes to watch from the stands...what sort of competitive athlete likes to JUST watch from the stands? Change the culture!
