Wouldn’t know. I don’t follow that much. I do know a 4a power just lost their bball coach of 8 years to a new private school that is opening next year. Bet he wasn’t taking a pay cut

as an assistant in the permian basin in west texas, (oilfield) my total supplement over state base was somewhere around $25k. some of that was teaching - oilfield schools pay teachers above state base (i don't remember how much, but i think it was around $5-6k?) because nobody (except me, apparently) wants to live in west texas.
now, state base sucks, but the poorer schools paid only state base or maybe $1-2k above for teaching. coaching supplements were $3-6k, depending on where and how many sports.

As a GA coach, I want them to get paid, because they are coming to this state fast....
Pay them!

I loved living in West Texas. Not sure if I could ever get my wife to go with me, but I wouldn’t hate going back there some day.

i grew up there, so it's home to me. no humidity, great sunrises and sunsets, the amazing amount of wildlife (which surprises most people not familiar with the area), great people, very friendly.
and as they say where i grew up, great fishing within 300 miles in any direction, if you like that sort of thing.
we tried to hire an o-line coach once, when i was at big lake (small west texas oilfield town). he interviewed, head coach called him the next day to see what he thought. he said his wife started crying on the way out of town and made him promise that he wouldn't make her live there.

I GA’d at Sul Ross for one season before I got a full-time job. I wasn’t there long, but I don’t know that I’ll ever forget how beautiful the land was out there. My wife has a “30 minutes from a Target” rule for anywhere we live, so I think her reaction would be similar to that OL coach’s wife.

I got curious so I looked up Big Lake. I'm with the wives. Rural life isn't for everybody.

my wife actually admitted to missing it when we left. she didn't want to move there, but it grows on you.
it's only about 80 miles to the nearest walmart or target.
and for big lake, it's really only that far to fish. there's a lake at san angelo.
there's a big dry depression at big lake that fills up when they get a LOT of rain (hence the name). and when it happens, there's actually fish in it.

I've hated that {censored} store since I stepped in one.

Your wife cannot go in a Target and spend less than $50. It’s impossible. Can’t be done. I’d come out better if she took up golfing with me than her going to Target when I was playing golf.
