We go to a couple of tournaments a year. They aren't my favorite thing to do but they also aren't as bad as I feared they would be when we started going last year.
You're going to see some weird crap when you're on defense at those things, but it's been good for us to stress the rules of our coverage and help reinforce them for the kids, especially the underneath coverage. Also not bad for building in some "contingency" type calls, because we're almost definitely going to run into a couple receivers that are way better physically than our DBs at a tourney.
We also try to pick up a few times a summer where we can get together with another team and work more in the "joint practice" type of setting. Those are great, better than the tournament setting.

They probably won't let you be the Head Coach. So, you've been a successful HC for a few years and you stop doing 7on7s they're going to fire you? the public bs about it would certainly bring heat unless you just win a ton problem is most of the schools in "contrarian offenses" are doing it for a reason,, they are undertalented, thus hard to win why the homogenization of offense in texas,, same {censored} every team it seems just sad

And what happens if you don't do it? Even in Texas? Parents and admins don't think you're "doing enough" and you get fired. In Texas your teaching job may be tied to your coaching job so you don't just lose a stipend you lose your mortgage-paying job. exactly why the homogenized bullcorn we saw every week it's like the old argument that cops will enforce unjust laws just to keep their dental plan just sucks

We want to run more than we throw as a former Flexbone program transitioning into a 21 P Gun Offense. The main purpose for us in 7-on-7 is definitely coaching up the coverage scheme & coverage skills.
I PISS opposing coaches off & encourage our Qs to run if they don’t like a definite throw. One of our Q’s best gains last year in real 11-on-11 was 17 yards on 3rd & 14 when HE tucked it & ran after I called Verts!
I’ll blow a whistle when they hit the LOS & harp on them good job. 7-on-7s are NOT perfect, but when coached with the appropriate mindset, the learning that can happen is INVALUABLE IMO!!!
