That's unbelievable. I saw a little of the game, too. I was a little puzzled because I'd never heard of Bishop Sycamore but didn't think much of it since I'm not from Ohio. Seems like ESPN would have done a cursory check on them. At least one of their recruiting gurus might have been curious.

Crazy thing is that Bishop played a game Friday before this one.
That’s a quick turn and burn.

The "coach" has an active arrest warrant out on him. How stupid do you have to be to go on national TV with a make believe team while there's a warrant out for you?

So many unanswered questions, haha. Where do they practice?? Do they practice? Do these kids go to other, real schools? How did they get their equipment? And I want to know who they played the previous Friday? What a crazy story.

What a dumpster fire. I can't stand watching those IMG games on ESPN, it's not really high school. If I want to watch college I'll watch good college football.

Yup played Friday against a 2A team (second smallest in PA) and LOST then IMG on Sunday. If they keep this squad going I saw they play in Kentucky, Texas, Ohio, Maryland, Ct, Maryland and VA. How are they gonna get to all those games???

ESPN is not the one that got duped. ESPN only broadcasts these games. There is another company that goes about putting all these nationally televised games together. Now does ESPN ultimately have responsibility for what they show, yes but Paragon goes all the leg work and then ESPN sells the ad space and broadcasts.

True, BUT as one of the leading perverters of the recruiting system, and one of the creators of the "blessed to receive" culture, it seems fairly obvious someone should have said "uh, guys, never heard of these people"

There are so many of these wanna-be IMG academies out here that its gone insane. They sell themselves as football schools, and start poaching kids as young as elementary, parents buy in and fork over the $$$.

I thought it marketed itself as an opportunity online-only charter post-graduate prep school. They lost to Massillon last year 35-0.

Crazy thing is that Bishop played a game Friday before this one. That’s a quick turn and burn. When the whole thing is a money racket, it’s not that surprising. They aren’t even part of the state association and are basically a semi-pro team pretending to be a HS team. According to a former player (or at least someone who claims to be a former player) the whole team spent the season living in a hotel after being shown pictures of lavish facilities—the hotel and all the team’s bills were paid for for with bounced checks until they were finally evicted and started sleeping on the floor of a single house. Dude says they only went to the library once for “class.” The rumor is that most of the team are HS graduates with a bunch of “JuCo dropouts” on the roster.

Heard on FOX Sports Radio this afternoon that the "school" has fired the head coach. That’s weird. Evidently the head coach *was* the school as recently as a couple of years ago. It’d be funny if the same “coach” is patrolling the sidelines of their next game in a fake mustache and wig…

Haha, you should look up CETYS. Its a small college in northern Mexico that will occasionally play against American high school teams in the Imperial Valley (small farming community in southern California). My dad played against them in the 70s, and my cousin in the late 90s. My dad said some players would show up with their wife and kids in tow. But I dont remember ever hearing about them winning.

I thought it marketed itself as an opportunity online-only charter post-graduate prep school. They lost to Massillon last year 35-0. According to a guy claiming to be a former player, there is no school, or at least there wasn’t a year or two ago—not even an online program. Then again, the same guy said he was literally starving from lack of food and had to steal to survive while he was there, so hopefully he’s just saying things for attention. Their website is reported to be very poorly made (I looked but could not find it) with zero info about academics but it does have a blog about recruiting. Their social media presence doesn’t even have a link to that site. It’s all football and recruiting stuff. This reminds me of the “independent private schools” who are basically private football programs with a sham school attached that have popped up in the last few years. In particular, I’m thinking of the one that David Stills’ dad put together after he was “offered” by Lane Kiffin as a 7th grade QB in particular. Bishop Sycamore seems like a variation on that model, but with even shadier dealings behind the scenes. IMG is at least up front about what it is and it (supposedly) has a legit academic program.

ESPN is responsible for what makes it on the air. They use these organizations because they want someone to blame when they mess up and accidentally highlight a coach that has a bad past or a player involved in shady business or schedule a game with a fake school. They are at very least negligent in the matter if they don’t have to take direct blame. It’s all just funny to me though. No one really got hurt that I’ve heard so its just silliness.
