We will be virtual before the end of the month. what state and why? Georgia. It will be a county thing. The reason? Delta strain. More emergency from the state. All the kids will be passed, so it looks better on websites.%100 pct graduation.

According to our former union president they're going to consider it a condition of employment and refusing the shot will lead to termination. Regardless whether you've had COVID or not. Other state agencies are "requiring" the shot or getting tested every week. We already do that. We also haven't had an "individual in custody" ( don't call them an inmate or offender- that will get you disciplined now- soon we'll call them guests) get COVID since March. I feel this entire push is to avoid potential lawsuits. That and our fine governor probably owns stock in Moderna or Pfizer and he needs some more profit to buy another horse farm in Florida.

Whitaker due to last years events has been very hands off. I doubt we get the full thing in again but I think we get 8 games or so and a few rounds of playoffs. We will not go into January and word on the street is that cancellation is not on the table and neither is a spring season. We will play as many games as we can safely. No masks unless inside, strongly encouraging kids to get vaccinated, not quite as rigid outside on social distancing, hand sanitizer etc. Very concerned about an outbreak with unvaccinated players as all it takes for 1 kid to get it and then bang ten kids out. We have not seen any ON FIELD transmission, most of it comes from their friends inside or relatives. I think hybrid learning is the way. Sitting on zoom is not productive and while we don’t have massive outbreaks that would happen in full capacity kids will catch it regardless. Might as well let everyone play some and compete while we are at it.
Not to hijack the thread but our country massively dropped the ball on not being more stringent with vaccines.

Apparently our union heads were meeting today to see what they want to negotiate with the governor in exchange for taking the shot.
Apparently ending THC testing in exchange for mandating the shot is a serious priority. I wish I were making this up.

The thing is, in 2 years I've never once been tested or known anyone who has been tested.

I also just realized the strange irony of the situation that if this goes through, I can go home, smoke weed (I don't do that, but) and then go to work to watch prisoners who are in prison for selling and smoking weed.
What a world.

The "unofficial" verdict after the "union fought really hard for us" is that you get it or you're fired.
This hasn't been officially handed down, but the local presidents are relaying it.

Will there be a mass exodus or do people not care at this point? I will be interested to see. A lot of people are threatening to resign, or walk out, but if this is true they've kind of got them by the short and curlies. I know at least a couple in our facility that will probably go through with it. A few facilities already have staff vaccination rates in the single digits % wise. If they refuse and walkout or get fired, there is no way those places could operate. And a few of them are maximum security 1000+ inmate facilities. Myself, with 23 years in and only 8 left until I retire, I'm kind of {censored}.

Our mandate date has been moved back to an unspecified date for prison employees.
Meanwhile, our governor is set to issue a state wide mask mandate for anyone else older than 2 and a vaccine mandate for all teachers today.

Meanwhile, our governor is set to issue a state wide mask mandate for anyone else older than 2 and a vaccine mandate for all teachers today. Already had that go down a week or so back. Just heard about the 3rd HC stepping down so far because they don't want the vax. A friend of mine who stepped down from coaching high school football for awhile to coach his son's middle school team just got a phone call asking if he would step up and fill the HC spot for one of the vacancies near him. He said he'd already committed to his son's team and they then offered him double the salary to do it. Deadline is Oct 18, lots rallying in the streets for local teachers and healthcare workers. Our hospitals are maxed out and the national guard just got called it to help. I can't imagine what's going to happen if or when nurses decide to bail, it's already a $hit show. Under staffed, overworked, beds maxed out and now you're fired if you don't comply? Interesting timing.....

I'm real intrigued how we're supposed to be "protecting" people when it doesn't stop you from spreading it. I've also spent about a month's worth of nights in ICU rooms with COVID patients. I've been about as exposed as you can be and nada yet. We have also not had a single case in our place since Feb/March. And we're in the 30-40% vaccination rate.

Teachers have 10 days to get the shot in Illinois. They going to require substitutes to be vaccinated?

Don't know. Good question.
Edit- I didn't find anything stating that as a requirement. Which is super interesting. At the same time, they can't find subs as it is.

My wife sent me the decree. After reading it, I'm reading that it does apply to subs. It says anyone employed or volunteering to be in contact for more than 15 mins once a week.
I assume that means every coach too. And your stat guys. And chain guys. And refs. And pretty much everyone.
Should really ease up the crunch of finding people to help do stuff.

Teachers have 10 days to get the shot in Illinois. They going to require substitutes to be vaccinated? Just a guess but there are two kinds of subs: Those who are doing it hoping to get a permanent teaching job and those who aren't. Having been one of the former, I can tell you that if I wasn't already vaccinated I'd be driving to a clinic right now.

There's going to be some openings in districts as some people will resign before getting it.

There's going to be some openings in districts as some people will resign before getting it. See ya. In a state where certain openings stay open for sometimes years because there's no one to fill them and the amount of people going into the profession over the past 10+ years has been cut almost in half, even a small number of people leaving is going to cause major problems.
