Are you for it or against it?
Those of you that do not have a PA system what do you use?

We use it during most of practice. Loud and Crazy during warm-ups and then turn it down during indy and drill work and then crank it back up in team sessions.

I know a lot of schools that have coaches that have forgotten more football than I know use it, but we tried it once and I didn't care for it.

As crazy as it sounds we’ve gotten so used to it we practice like crap without it.

I'm for it and have been places that do it. My current location the HC is against it so we dont. Either way is fine with me but I would probably use it if it was my choice.

We do it and it gets to the point where you dont notice it, but when its not on the kids kinda drag. We turn it on during warmups and let it run. Creates some tempo, also creates some chaos at times, and forces kids to have to communicate like a game. Only time we turn it off is during install period on Monday.

I am not for it or against it. We have done it at a previous school. I don't really like it except during team times.

Does playing music at practice help you play better-win?
In HS football for example music - from bands or PA - is not supposed to be played after RFP (Ready for Play) signal.
Seems like it be just another (big) thing to set up for practice.
But apparently it works some programs?

You listen to it because it makes driving more enjoyable. I like music.
It makes me feel better at practice and if I'm feeling better the kids probably are too. And if they are enjoying practice we are more likely to practice well, which will lead to us playing better and winning.

Anything we can do to get our kids more excited, I'm for it. If that means playing some music as background noise during practice? Let's do it.
We use a blue tooth speaker, with a playlist from my phone. It's a clean list, no swear. I have the phone in my pocket so I can turn the volume up during high energy drills or down during teaching times.

I'm 71 yo. The guys asked about it last year. I said OK and figured I'd bring some of my tunes to add.
I brought out some of my Beach Boys and Stones disks, along with some CCR...Led Zeppelin...Iron Butterfly.
They looked at me like I was their Great Grandpa. I never saw that many eye rolls at one time.

No, music doesn't help me drive better or more enjoyable (maybe because I usually have ESPN Radio on).
But if you like it while driving that is seriously good. If The Dan Lebatard show is on I will switch over to oldies station (because I'm old).
Do you have any analytics that show how playing music at practice has helped your kids play better-win more?
i.e. your win-loss record before playing music at practice, and record since you started doing so?

Our varsity did it this year, our Frosh HC was against it so we didnt. But i like it, loud and chaotic environments are good to get used too, some of our varsity games were incredibly loud. I agree kids seemed to be more juiced during the warm ups, less half a**ed stretching. And for team periods were communication needs to be practiced it can help to make it loud, for the players and the coaches.

I never did it as a HC because it seemed like another pain in the ass thing to deal with every day for not very much in return. I figured no teenage boy probably wanted to listen to my music- Tool, Zeppelin, Mudvayne, Chevelle, etc- and I sure as hell didn't want to listen to their morally corrupt idiot music.
Oddly enough, all 3 of my assistants that became HCs started doing music at practice to "make it more fun" and change the culture. Idk that it's worked as they went 7-20 last year combined.
I did coach as an assistant last year at a music place. Our individual area was right in front of the speaker. It kinda confirmed all my worst suspicions about the thing. Kids seemed more worried about what was playing, it was a huge pain to get in and out every day and to be heard all over the field it was so freaking loud it was nearly impossible for me to teach anything to my individual group. I wouldn't do it if I were to ever coach again.

I am curious of the play list. In my experience it is better not to play the players favorite songs

After playing our regional final opponent, I think we may increase the noise level at practice.

Where I am at it's more like a Battle of the Bands that just happens to have a football game.

We play music everyday. Different people get to choose the type of music each day. I don't think it negatively affects practice at all.

What I like about the option of being able to play music is it pumps up during the warm up. I know, I know, "if you need music for it.." and for team sessions to increase the chaos of game situation simulation. I know it isnt look the same as gameday but you are always dealing with an extra aspect: refs, dirty players, pita fans, etc. So that noise in the background might be some helpful.
For the older guys, dont tell me that wouldnt be great to warm up listening to the intro of whole lotta love - tan tan tan taaannn taaannn

When we are in the stadium we 100% play music, practice field we don’t. We are usually in the stadium for 1.5 to 2 practices.
Music is an eclectic mix of kids favorites (edited), coaches favorites, and random stuff. It tends to be background noise but we do it bc kids like it and honestly because I like it. I don’t like everything that’s on the playlist but I have 100ish kids, they may like it and they are the ones that play. We had a coach that struggled with it and the answer was “learn to deal with it and/or move your drills.”
Does it make us better? It surely doesn’t make us worse even if kids are dancing and singing at times. Is there tangible proof it makes us better? No bc we’ve done it since day one, previous regime never did it and had a worse record but music isn’t why.
I will continue to do it as long as I make that decision.

Are you for it or against it? Those of you that do not have a PA system what do you use? We love playing music during practice. Seems to add more energy for the coaches and players. We have fun alternating days between the kids' music and the coaches' music, but be sure to use Pandora with explicit lyrics turned off. We play music at practice. We let the players pick songs, but intermixed them with coaches choices as well. The player really seem to like it. All the songs are edited of course.

We have a block rocker speaker. Kids like it, sometimes it gets the energy up. We do not use it during indy or any install time but typically will during special teams, team offense,...
Songs have to be edited and no references that will earn me a trip to the superintendents office the next day

Not that I have an opinion one way or the other but I'm surprised that edited versions are a big deal.

Not that I have an opinion one way or the other but I'm surprised that edited versions are a big deal. In a world where kids mouths are consistently worse than at any other time in history (IMO), God forbid those words be uttered or allowed to be uttered around their parent's little angels.
