Coaches, We used to have the "Mayors Cup" vs our neighbor. Here's a link to all Bleacher Report's Top College Rivalry Trophies . Do you have a trophy for your rivalry game? Anyone started one recently? I've been thinking about trying to get a couple going for our games.

Both schools 5 miles apart on the same road (Bear Valley Pkwy). Great tradition. We carried it around school all week during the week of the game. We would pass it to each other during passing periods and a different player got to take it to class. It was one of the coolest things i've been a part of. I would also like to add that it has been in its rightful place for a long time.

We are in a unique situation in that our town and our rival's town are both county seats. I have been told we're the only county in Iowa that has two seats and possibly the only county in the country. So...our trophy is the county seat!

Never played or coached in one in HS. Played 4 years in the Bronze Turkey game between Monmouth College and Knox. That was a cool game.
Local school that bordered a former school proposed a trophy game when they entered our conference. Mostly because they thought they'd win it every year. Wanted to call it something War. Even though they bordered us, we hardly played them in anything, nor had a rivalry with them. I said no because I thought it sounded stupid and I hate manufactured history. After beating them like 120-40 the first 2 years we played, the idea was dropped.

No real trophy per say but where we coach the district borders the city limits and then our big rival is the district that borders us. So it’s not like a rural type setting and everything is very close. Any ways one of the main borders between townships/districts is a bridge. So yup each year so far as our first game because why wouldn’t you want to play your rival who is now 3 classes bigger than you first game in THE BATLLE OF THE BRIDGE!!!!!! People have put up giant billboards in team colors saying “The bridge is ours!!!!!” Which has been in the rivals colors the last few years and in perfect view of our field....

A school I coached at had a good sized wooden tomahawk we traded back and forth (actually I never lost it on my watch). Red on one side. Yellow on the other for our school colors. Neither school has anything to do with indians. It is named the The Tomahawk because both schools used to be in the Tomahawk Conference a long long time ago. In fact the two towns were even combined for a while in football before splitting back up again.

Anyone started one recently? I've been thinking about trying to get a couple going for our games. We have the Wildfire Trophy between Westhampton Beach HS and Eastport- South Manor High School. The South Manor kids used to go to Westhampton before they merged with Eastport and built their own school. We have been playing for over 10 years but this year we decided to give the game a name. It is named after the Wildfire that started on the east end of Long Island and raged between the districts communities. The trophy is to honor all the local fire departments that fought the fire and saved hundreds of homes from disaster. We put the helmet badge of the six fire departments that fought the fire from the two districts fire departments. Wild Fire on Long Island

We have "the battle for the boot", which is a bronze boot. Any story behind it? I'm certain there is, but it pre-dates my time here. We just added another HS to our district, and we don't have a trophy with them yet. I'd love to have one, but I don't want it to be artificial. Gotta wait for the right moment and find what strikes our fancy as a trophy.

Anyone started one recently? I've been thinking about trying to get a couple going for our games. Growing up, my HS alma mater had one that would travel with the winner and be displayed in their front office year-round. It had little plates added each year with the winner and score of the game. Eventually, they had to add another tier to it to make room for more plates. It really meant something and made the game a lot more fun and meaningful, even if both teams came in winless. It was a huge deal in my town. I just assumed everyone had a similar game before I got into coaching, but I haven’t coached anywhere else with one. Things aren’t nearly as exciting without it, IMO, but it might take some time for a trophy to gain traction.

share.icloud.com/photos/0lw2GK4y2kSxBIgkgaFppjBGwOur rival is on the other side of the highway, so “Fight for 55”. Basically, a huge highway sign is the trophy. It passes back and forth through all sports, then stays with the school that wins the most at the end of the year.

In 2011 a neighboring coach helped me install a play, the greatest play ever, THE WEDGE. He had been using it for years and ran it on us. We stole it, and used it to help hand them their only conference loss of the 2011 season. You could hear some of the guys on the other team yelling "they stole our play" as we ran it up and down the field. Starting in 2012 we played in the "Wedge Bowl" and played for a iron wedge mounted on a block of wood. Now this was a real rivalry because neither team held the trophy more than two years in a row. I am not sure if they still play for this trophy since both myself and the coach from the other school who ran the smash mouth offenses have gone to other places. But it sure was fun at the time.

Humboldt State vs Chico was a giant lumberjack ax, 3' blade on a 6' handle. Winner painted the head their school color, engraved the winning score in the handle.
Chico folded their program in the 90's, so the ax stayed with us in Humboldt.
Buddy and I take the ax down to hold for our individual team photo. I take mine. Buddy picks up the ax, driops in, breaks handle. I have the last photo ever of the intact ax.

Currently coaching at a school where we are 1 of 5 teams in the city.
We have a City Championship trophy, goes to whomever wins the most city games.
We usually win it. No one else knows we even play for it. It's just something we started in-house to add some importance to historically lopsided games

We call one of our games the Beef Bowl (2 farming communities in Iowa) and have a trophy for it. The trophy itself is really nothing special but it is nice when you win it! Our rivalry is pretty intense and we have played each other over 100 times with the record being around 55-50 in favor of our rival. The trophy has only been around for the last 10-15 years though.
