Never played or coached in one in HS. Played 4 years in the Bronze Turkey game between Monmouth College and Knox. That was a cool game. Local school that bordered a former school proposed a trophy game when they entered our conference. Mostly because they thought they'd win it every year. Wanted to call it something War. Even though they bordered us, we hardly played them in anything, nor had a rivalry with them. I said no because I thought it sounded stupid and I hate manufactured history. After beating them like 120-40 the first 2 years we played, the idea was dropped. Are you a Fighting Scot or a dirty Siwashe?

Another school in the south end of our city wanted to begin a rivalry game with us. They haven't been successful during the coaches tenure and was trying to have something to excite the guys and possibly have them play with a little more enthusiasm. Our schools mascots are the Spartans and the Celtics and we play for a sword. Their school built the sword and they haven't touched it since. I believe we have been playing for the sword for about 5 years.

A cross town rival has a contest among the coaches and the loser buys the winner a bottle of rum. Longest FG this year- must be filmed and placed on social media. We lost!
Most of both coaching staffs are alums of the same university and we were pirates thus the bottle of rum. Nothing to do with what the kids do.
